posted by Pedro CubiasPedro Cubias 2622 days, 9 hours, 14 minutes ago
Saturday, July 17, 2010 9:01:25 AM GMT
Thursday during the Developer Conference in Brighton, Chris Harris from UK indie developer Positech said that smaller developers have the advantage of building a personal relationship with the end user--thus landing an actual sale--by emailing them directly. The observation came during a public debate in regards to the future of micro-studios. He was joined on stage by a panel of three other developers: Robin Lacey (Beatnik), Sean Murray (Hello Games) and Mark Morris (Introversion). (more)

Imagine this scenario: prior to 2010, a company witnessed three strange deaths and two suicides. Then, when 2010 rolled over, said company played host to twelve suicide attempts on its Longhua campus, ten of which actually resulted in death. Now imagine someone forcing you to work for said company. Even more importantly, imagine that you're still just a 17-year-old student. (more)

posted by Pedro CubiasPedro Cubias 2644 days, 10 hours, 2 minutes ago

According to trade site Develop, "one of the biggest game companies in the world" has "sabotaged" plans to provide tax breaks for UK developers. That's one juicy scandal. The British government had pledged to provide the breaks, aimed at propping up a decline in the number of UK developers. That was until, Develop says, a "global publisher...counterbalanced the bid with a scandalous assertion of its own international influence and power". Earlier this week, plans for the tax cuts were scrapped. (more)

Foxconn Considering Moving Production to Taiwan

Monday, June 14, 2010 6:29:33 AM GMT
Foxconn has been in the press a lot over the last few weeks because of a bout of suicides at one of its factories. The company has given raises; put nets up around the buildings to stop jumpers; hired councilors and exorcists; given more raises; and issued workers with a 'no-suicide' contract (though they took that one back because it was a little insensitive). Today we learn that the company is considering moving some of its operations to Taiwan and other countries. However, it is not immediately clear ... (more)

Given that AT&T's exclusivity deal with Apple carries on until 2012, the news shouldn't be surprising. With that said, rumors of a Verizon iPhone could still come to fruition once the contract expires. (more)

US consumers of those newfangled video games apparently spent $25.3 billion on them in 2009, according to the Today's Gamers Survey by Newzoo and TNS. If this study seems vaguely familiar, it's likely because there was a similar report released on massively multiplayer games a couple months ago, which found that Americans spent $3.8 billion on MMOs during 2009. Typically, data we see comes from retailers, but this survey was conducted using 13,000 respondents, aged 8 and up, who were "carefully selected ... (more)
