FCC Revising Broadband to Enforce Net Neutrality

On Thursday the FCC is expected to reveal its roadmap for regulating broadband in attempt to maintain net neutrality. The plan is expected to change the way the FCC defines broadband without adding additional regulations, forcing phone companies, wireless carriers, and cable companies to treat all Internet traffic equally, and not block websites or throttle connections. A lawyer backing the guy who sold the iPhone 4G prototype to Gizmodo has come forward to reveal his client as Brian Hogan, a 21-year-old college student from Redwood City, California. The story supplied by Hogan's lawyer--Jeff Bornstein of K&L Gates in San Francisco--indicates that someone handed him the iPhone prototype while sitting at the bar. (more)

Comcast Wins 'Worst Company in America' Award

The Consumerist has named Comcast the Worst Company in America and says that it was a toss up between the cable and Internet company and Ticketmaster. The Consumerist's Chris Morran says the award, a golden poop, will be delivered to Comcast's HQ, though he could be kidding about that part. (more)

Movie buffs looking for a new way to watch their favorite flicks can now head on over to YouTube's new rental store. The streaming service quietly launched without much fanfare on Thursday, however fans can now rent movies for a two-day period, costing between $0.99 to $3.99 USD, depending on the title. Consumers purchase their rentals via Google's Checkout service. (more)

New Zealand police respond to Splinter Cell stunt involving 'gun'

A Splinter Cell: Conviction marketing stunt went a bit too far in Auckland, New Zealand. According to the New Zealand Herald, a man with bandages on his hands pointed a fake gun at the patrons of a bar, who responded by diving under tables and calling the police. The money quote comes from Senior Sergeant Ben Offner, who said, "We consider these types of stunts to be very ill-advised and have real concerns a similar one may one day end in tragedy." Er, "ill-advised" would be putting it lightly. (more)
