Kingdom Hearts: Re:Coded getting graphics and combat upgrade, FF13 cameo

posted by Pedro CubiasPedro Cubias 2617 days, 21 hours, 11 minutes ago
Thursday, June 24, 2010 7:51:24 AM GMT
The latest Famitsu has an interview with Square Enix producer Tetsuya Nomura about Kingdom Hearts Re:Coded, the game originally leaked by a voice actor and then officially announced at E3 last week. The title is indeed a remake of the mobile phone game from Japan -- Square Enix found that none of the phones required to play the game were sold in North America, so it decided to bring it to the Nintendo DS instead. The hardware will bring 3D models into some parts of the game, and the battle system will be... (more)

Nintendo's Fils-Aime promises 'commitment' to improve online experience

posted by Pedro CubiasPedro Cubias 2617 days, 21 hours, 14 minutes ago
Thursday, June 24, 2010 7:47:52 AM GMT
Nintendo enjoys breaking conventions. Disruptive ideas have been part of the company's heritage, and while some innovations set industry standards -- from the D-Pad to motion controls -- other ideas seem different for the sake of being unique. Case in point: Nintendo's implementation of online in both the Wii and DS. In an interview with IndustryGamers, Nintendo of America president Reggie Fils-Aime admitted that the company has shortcomings in that arena. "The online ... or let me state it more broadly,... Sony talks sh*t about 3DS technology

posted by Pedro CubiasPedro Cubias 2620 days, 20 hours, 21 minutes ago

So, Nintendo murdered everyone at E3, not just with its rather terrifying selection of awesome games, but with its stunning 3DS demonstration. If you haven't seen the thing in action, let me confirm that it's pretty amazing stuff. Sony boss Kaz Hirai hasn't seen the 3DS, but that didn't stop him chatting sh*t about the technology behind it. Japan juiced for Ghost Trick: Phantom Detective

posted by Pedro CubiasPedro Cubias 2629 days, 20 hours, 21 minutes ago
Saturday, June 12, 2010 8:41:39 AM GMT
Ghost Trick is being promoted by Japan's "Juicer Bar" franchise with a themed juice drink, made of blackcurrant, blueberries, and a "mystery flavor." In keeping with the game, we're guessing it's arsenic -- you have to go back in time and possess the juice machine to stop your drink from being made. (more)

Looksley's Line Up, also known as "that game everyone thought was a 3DS demo," arrives in Europe today under the title Tales in a Box: Hidden shapes in perspective! If your interests lie less in the uncomfortably futuristic, and more in the vintage, Final Fantasy II is available on Virtual Console. This is the one we know now as Final Fantasy IV. This book has 100 Classic Books in it

posted by Pedro CubiasPedro Cubias 2632 days, 22 hours, 27 minutes ago
Wednesday, June 09, 2010 6:35:10 AM GMT
Perhaps fearing that we wouldn't understand the concept of reading books on a DS, Nintendo sent press copies of the game disguised in a form that readers would find comfortable: a large, "leather"-bound, hardcover book. Only upon opening the front cover did we learn its terrible secret: it's not full of paper at all, but rather a copy of 100 Classic Books, Nintendo and HarperCollins' DS collection of literary standards. Super Scribblenauts art depicts a windsurfing werewolf

posted by Pedro CubiasPedro Cubias 2633 days, 22 hours, 53 minutes ago
Tuesday, June 08, 2010 6:08:51 AM GMT
The promise of better controls and adjectives in Super Scribblenauts has many of us eagerly awaiting any and all news on the sequel, which -- do I even need to remind you? -- shouldn't be much of a wait given E3. As with the original Scribblenauts, it seems 5th Cell is all about giving us more wallpapers in its patented cutesy style. This newest piece of art shows a windsurfing werewolf, and I'm not even sure how to respond to that. Like the Alamo's lack of a basement, they don't teach this stuff in sch... (more)

CESA calculates gaming industry losses due to portable piracy

Japan's Computer Entertainment Suppliers Association recently conducted a study of the the world's 114 most popular sites for illegal game downloads in order to get a rough estimate on how much the industry has lost due to software piracy. The results aren't pretty: According to Andriasang's report on the group's calculations, piracy on the DS and PSP alone between 2004 and 2009 cost the worldwide games industry roughly 3.816 trillion yen, or around $41.7 billion. Report: New GoldenEye coming in November, to be revealed at E3

posted by Pedro CubiasPedro Cubias 2635 days, 20 hours, 27 minutes ago
Sunday, June 06, 2010 8:35:02 AM GMT
More evidence to support the circulating rumors of a GoldenEye remake surfaced this past week. The most convincing comes from Eurogamer, which reports that a source has confirmed Activision is working on a revamped version of the classic Nintendo 64 shooter for the Wii and DS to be released this November. The game is supposedly being developed by n-Space and Eurocom, the latter of which created the N64 version of The World is Not Enough. The source also mentioned the publisher will showcase the title for... (more)

Natsume publishing Lufia: Curse of the Sinistrals in North America

posted by Pedro CubiasPedro Cubias 2645 days, 21 hours, 14 minutes ago
Thursday, May 27, 2010 7:48:25 AM GMT
Square Enix's DS remake of Lufia II is headed Stateside from an unexpected publisher -- by which we mean it's not Square Enix. Natsume, who surprised us by picking up Sony's Afrika, announced plans to release the game now called Lufia: Curse of the Sinistrals in North America this fall. That's good news for gamers in more than one way -- had Square published the game itself, it would have had the customary $39.99 price tag put on Square DS games, while Natsume is only charging $30. Mario is for guys in their fifties

posted by Pedro CubiasPedro Cubias 2649 days, 21 hours, 9 minutes ago

It's not uncommon for people to say that Nintendo only makes games for kids, and that the Mario games in particular are kid-only experiences. For instance, Blur, an upcoming "realistic" racing game featuring missile launching race cars and giant explosions, has a new commercial that's all about how Mario Kart isn't for "big boys". That may or may not be the case, but what about "old men"? What games are for them? Well, according to Shigeru Miyamoto, a +50 year old man, Mario games are made for him, and ... (more)

The Reject Pile Of Spring 2010

posted by Pedro CubiasPedro Cubias 2655 days, 8 hours, 42 minutes ago

I try to possess as few video games as possible, because it is my dream to only own masterpieces. I haven't achieved this dream yet — hey, I can't bring myself to get rid of Geist, okay? But I did manage to eliminate about a fifth of my video game collection this weekend. Bear in mind that, as someone who covers games for a living, I get a lot of discs sent to me that I would not choose to buy; among those are some I will mess around with and decide to either keep or get rid of. Puzzle Quest 2 coming to DS June 22

posted by Pedro CubiasPedro Cubias 2661 days, 4 hours, 35 minutes ago

We know there have been plenty of pretenders to the Puzzle Quest throne, many developed/perpetrated by developer Infinite Interactive itself. But do you still remember? Is there a place in your memory for those seemingly countless hours you spent peering into your DS, hoping to line up enough red gems to get off that last fire spell before you were overwhelmed by a giant spider? Do you remember? More importantly: Have the countless clones and wannabes completely dulled your desire for a return to the wor... (more)

MySims Skyheroes coming to Wii, DS, Xbox 360 and PS3

posted by Pedro CubiasPedro Cubias 2667 days, 8 hours, 26 minutes ago
Wednesday, May 05, 2010 8:36:46 PM GMT
The MySims franchise has pretty much been exclusive to Nintendo's systems, mostly thanks to the fact it's designed to appeal entirely to the so-called "casual" demographic. So, it's a little surprising to see MySims SkyHeroes also coming to the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3. Not that we care enough to be truly shocked or anything. SkyHeroes is exactly what it sounds like: An air combat game starring the mawkish creatures of the MySims universe. Players will have to tackle the Drone Army of Morcubus but I d... (more)
