E3 2011: The big schedule

posted by Pedro CubiasPedro Cubias 2215 days, 11 hours, 54 minutes ago
Sunday, June 05, 2011 7:14:46 AM GMT
The big week is almost upon us, folks: E3 2011. And if this week is any indication of days to come, we'll have a constant flow of news mainlined directly from Los Angeles to your think meat. With that in mind, there are a handful of focal points throughout the week that will assuredly strike you as high priority, and as such, we thought a roadmap guiding you to those particular moments -- whether you're in Shibuya, or Queens, or anywhere else for that matter -- would be of particular use. Square Enix reveals Heroes of Ruin for 3DS, then hides it

posted by Pedro CubiasPedro Cubias 2221 days, 9 hours, 21 minutes ago
Monday, May 30, 2011 9:47:19 AM GMT
Late last week, Square Enix pulled a bait and switch in the form of a 3DS game tease. The publisher posted some pretty cool artwork to Facebook, then sneakily removed it. This is the Internet, however, so naturally everybody's found out about it regardless. From what's known, the game is called Heroes of Ruin and it's a joint effort between Square Enix and n-Space. The phrase, "Join the fun. More soon," accompanied the art, but of course that tells us bugger-all. A few details are apparently found wi... (more)

Review: Dead or Alive Dimensions

posted by Pedro CubiasPedro Cubias 2225 days, 12 hours, 22 minutes ago
Thursday, May 26, 2011 6:46:54 AM GMT
The Dead or Alive series has never quite made it to the top tier of world-favorite fighting games. Despite having a large, dedicated fanbase, it's always hovered somewhere below Street Fighter, Mortal Kombat, and Tekken, though well above other great, lesser-appreciated series like Darkstalkers, Fatal Fury, and Guilty Gear, in terms of sheer popularity. Australia getting its own awesome Ocarina of Time 3D bundle

posted by Pedro CubiasPedro Cubias 2225 days, 12 hours, 24 minutes ago

Though not nearly as radical as Greece's Deku Nut-packed bundle, Australia's getting its own special edition of The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time 3D. Shedding the legumes and baseball cap of its Grecian counterpart, the Australian Ocarina Bundle -- available exclusively as a pre-order bonus from EB Games -- includes an Ocarina, some sheet music to help you play some of OoT's transportative jingles and a large box with which to contain said instrument and tabulature. Takashi Miike's new film based on DS 'courtroom drama'

posted by Pedro CubiasPedro Cubias 2227 days, 11 hours, 34 minutes ago
Tuesday, May 24, 2011 7:34:05 AM GMT
So, this is mighty strange. Japanese director Takashi Miike, famed for intensely violent films like Ichi the Killer and Audition, is going in a very different direction for his next film project. Speaking with The Huffington Post at Cannes, Miike said, "It is a very light comedy that I am filming now, a court drama, based on a video game, the Nintendo game DS." (more)

Yesterday, Microsoft was all too willing to toot its own horn and reveal that 297,000 Xbox 360s were sold in the month of April, but GameSpot says it managed to secure numbers for its competitor, Nintendo. The 3DS was apparently just shy of 200,000 units, unloading 194,000 3DS handhelds on consumers. (more)

Keepin' it real fake: a Nintendo DS Lite that gets it (mostly) DS right

posted by Pedro CubiasPedro Cubias 2239 days, 10 hours, 23 minutes ago

The death of Nintendo's DS Lite getting you down? Good news: it may have long ago been eclipsed by the DSi and 3DS, but the svelte portable system is still being made -- by someone, somewhere. And you can get a pretty good price on the thing, if you don't mind a few flaws -- like the above bootleg picked up a 1UP editor who though he was getting the real deal from eBay. (more)

Barrett has the new ability to run up walls, as well as a combination of long-range (i.e. gun) and close-range attacks at his disposal -- unlike Mega Man, whose general close-quarters strategy is just point-blank shooting. Barrett also has the power to own a flying motorcycle. Check our gallery for the screens, and find the videos after the break. (more)

Miyamoto talks Super Mario 3DS, hints at the raccoon's return

posted by Pedro CubiasPedro Cubias 2259 days, 12 hours, 42 minutes ago

In a recent interview with Edge, industry legend Shigeru Miyamoto confirmed two of the suspicions we'd developed regarding the handful of Super Mario 3DS details revealed during the publisher's GDC presentation. First, he explained, "It's a combination of Super Mario Galaxy and Super Mario on N64." Which makes sense, considering we knew it was being developed by the team between both installments in the Galaxy series. He added that the device's 3D capabilities makes platforming a bit smoother, explaining... (more)

Imagine you're 30 years old -- heck, imagine you're 40. You're single, looking up old flames on Facebook and you start talking to an old mate, one that always had a special place in your heart. You reconnect and meet up for coffee -- at first glance, you're taken aback by how beautiful this person is. Time hasn't seemed to touch them one bit. In fact, they look better than the last time you saw them (more)

Why you haven't bought a 3DS... yet

posted by Pedro CubiasPedro Cubias 2269 days, 11 hours, 44 minutes ago

Two weeks ago from yesterday, the 3DS launched in the USA. So far, the console has sold well, but not quite as well as Nintendo projected. The company expected to move 4 million 3DS units worldwide in the first month of release. From the loose numbers reported thus far, they didn't make that number. In fact, last week, the PSP actually outsold the 3DS in Japan. We're definitely not looking at a disaster for Nintendo here, but I think it's fair to say that both Nintendo and the gaming press may have over ... (more)

Duke Nukem: Critical Mass trailer skips the PSP version for good reason

After a mysterious quiet period (which is totally uncharacteristic for a Duke Nukem game), Deep Silver and Apogee are planning to release Duke Nukem: Critical Mass for DS this week in Europe and next month in North America.
