Gamerang is launching a new site (currently in beta) with "the ever-important social media aspect of games" . If you're unfamiliar with Gamerang, it's been renting video games since 2003, with four distribution centers across the United States. Gamerang boasts over 9,000 titles for every major platform. It works essentially like a Netflix for video games, or a Gamefly if you will. "While many sectors of the video games industry continue to grow, one niche area has shrunken to only a few companies – vide... (more)

The results of a recent survey of iPad owners conducted by Resolve Market Research seems to indicate that the tablet is taking a notable chunk out of the handheld gaming industry share. According to Mashable, 28 percent of respondents claimed that one of their main uses for the iPad was gaming, while 23 percent said between the iPad, smartphones and portable gaming devices, the former is "the most enjoyable for playing games." Hulu Plus preview arrives in iTunes App Store, Flash be damned

posted by Pedro CubiasPedro Cubias 2553 days, 19 hours, 21 minutes ago
Wednesday, June 30, 2010 8:09:51 AM GMT
The free Hulu Plus app just hit the iTunes App store, kids, with the promise of 720p streaming over WiFi or 3G to iOS devices including the iPad, iPhone 3GS, iPhone 4, and 3rd generation iPod touch. They're calling it a "limited preview" release that will ultimately require a $10 per month subscription on top of the commercials you're forced to watch. Oh, and it's still restricted to US-only viewership. Well, at least the Flash barrier has been removed. Huzzah? (more)

Apple this week announced that it has sold three million iPads since the device first launched. However, it seems there are a few iPads unaccounted for as thieves are targeting one New York Apple store and stealing the tablets right off the delivery truck. Things have gotten so bad that even store employees aren't allowed to know delivery times anymore. (more)

Will electronic media eventually eradicate paper products? The transition is eventual, however one restaurant in Australia is taking the digital step early by ditching its paper-based menus and wine lists. Instead, it will offer customers an iPad running a special application designed to not only list the establishment's menu, but apparently their ingredients. and other useful information (more)

FBI Launches Investigation into AT&T iPad Breach

posted by Pedro CubiasPedro Cubias 2571 days, 19 hours, 28 minutes ago
Saturday, June 12, 2010 8:03:13 AM GMT
On Wednesday, a security team spoke to Gawker about an AT&T vulnerability it had exploited to gain information about iPad users. As a result of their research, they had obtained what the web is now calling, "the most exclusive email list on the planet." Goatse Security's list includes the email addresses of NYT CEO Janet Robinson, Harvey Weinstein, Mayor Michael Bloomberg, White House Chief of Staff Rahm Emanuel and Diane Sawyer of ABC News. While the breach was reported to AT&T and the security ... (more)

Artefact puts Flash on your iPad 'In A Pinch' (video)

posted by Pedro CubiasPedro Cubias 2571 days, 19 hours, 35 minutes ago
Saturday, June 12, 2010 7:55:47 AM GMT
Despite Steve Jobs's ethical reservations, it's clear that people want Flash on their iPads (or at the very least, developers want to find ways put it there). Recently we saw Smokescreen, a browser plug-in that pulls apart SWF binaries and reassembles them into something Apple-friendly. Taking a slightly different tack, the kids at the Artefact Group have been working on a service called Flash In A Pinch. (more)

AT&T breach reveals 114,000 iPad owners' email addresses, including some elite customers

posted by Pedro CubiasPedro Cubias 2573 days, 19 hours, 56 minutes ago
Thursday, June 10, 2010 7:34:44 AM GMT
Uh oh. According to Valleywag, an AT&T security breach led to the exposure of 114,000 email addresses (and associated SIM / ICC identifiers) belonging to Apple iPad owners. A group of hackers calling themselves Goatse Security (be careful looking that one up) figured out a number of ICC-IDs and ran a script on AT&T's site through a faked iPad UserAgent, which would then return the associated addresses. Some of those affected were actually quite big names, including the CEOs of The New York Times ... (more)

The iPad was just launched in Japan last week but one surgeon is already making use of the device in his operating room. Though it's unclear exactly how he's using the iPad, the surgeons in the video (seen here on Wired UK) pinch, zoom and drag their fingers across the screen, examining what appears to be the patient's insides or reference photos. Verizon: No iPhone in Immediate Future

On the heels of a rumor that Verizon Wireless is testing a CDMA-capable Apple iPad on its network, a spokesman confirmed that the company has no plans to support the iPhone "in the immediate future." Given that AT&T's exclusivity deal with Apple carries on until 2012, the news shouldn't be surprising. With that said, rumors of a Verizon iPhone could still come to fruition once the contract expires. (more)

Here is the evolution of LeChuck for Monkey Island 2: SE

posted by Pedro CubiasPedro Cubias 2581 days, 19 hours, 31 minutes ago

LeChuck is a classic villain. He has a singular and grandiose focus, always has a sinister plan to achieve his ends and repeatedly opens himself up to being defeated by a bumbling loser with luck on their side. It doesn't get anymore basic than that. And yet, he has a style and flair all his own. It's probably all of the voodoo. LucasArts Games released a group of images showing the development of LeChuck's look in the upcoming Monkey Island 2: LeChuck's Revenge Special Edition (more)

When the iPad launched, Steve Jobs announced that it would not support Flash and many sites and newspaper publishers rushed to create either an iPad friendly website or a separate app for the Apple tablet. When the iPad bandwagon was launched in late January, ABC and Netflix quickly jumped onboard with tailor-made apps, while CBS and others started transitioning their content to HTML5-compliant formats, all in the name of not being left behind by the revolution. As it turns out, however, some content providers will be letting this ride pass them by, at least for the moment. The New York Post today reports that big media heavyweights Time Warner and NBC Universal have turned their noses up at the iPad's ... (more)
