Blizzard comments on World of StarCraft, invites creator to HQ

posted by Pedro CubiasPedro Cubias 2399 days, 22 hours, 43 minutes ago
Friday, January 21, 2011 9:18:45 AM GMT
Blizzard has released a statement regarding the pulled YouTube videos of a StarCraft 2 mod by Ryan Winzen that turned the RTS title into a game more closely resembling World of Warcraft. While the developer admits that YouTube was asked to kill the videos because of the trademarked name "as part of our routine procedure," the mod itself will live on. "As always, we actively encourage development of custom maps and mods," Blizzard says in the statement, and it is "looking forward to seeing the continued d... (more)

World Of Warcraft: Cataclysm MMO Log Part Two: For The Alliance!

posted by Pedro CubiasPedro Cubias 2428 days, 21 hours, 18 minutes ago
Thursday, December 23, 2010 10:43:34 AM GMT
Kotaku's MMO reviews are a multi-part process. Rather than deliver day one reviews based on beta gameplay, we play the game for four weeks (or in this case, two) before issuing our final verdict. Once a week we deliver a log detailing when and how we played the game. We believe this gives readers a frame of reference for the final review. Since MMO titles support many different types of play, readers can compare our experiences to theirs to determine what the review means to them. (more)

Team Fortress 2 is ever-evolving and a new initiative from Valve hopes to make this rampant evolution a bit safer for all players through the Team Fortress 2 public beta. Accessible to all owners of the game on Steam (open your Library then install "Team Fortress 2 Beta" from your games list), it's a special version of the game that lets Valve tinker around with game mechanics while you test 'em out live. Think: scientist and guinea pig. You're the guinea pig. (more)

Great Scott, Marty, it's the very first screenshot of Telltale's much-anticipated Back to the Future episodic game. The company has shared a few shots of the title in action for the first time and, as you can see above, the look is more stylistic than realistic. That's certainly Marty and the Doc, but visualized with a little more flair than their real-life counterparts. (more)

Balance is an important issue in any RTS, and it appears that Blizzard has been paying attention to online game stats for StarCraft 2. Overall, the Protoss faction seems to have an unusually high win percentage against Terrans in certain leagues of play. Furthermore, while Zerg statistics don't indicate any huge disadvantages, Blizzard notes in the Battle.Net blog that "the feedback from the community as well as our own play experience tells us that improvements are necessary to make Zerg matchups feel a...
