Torchlight 2 will offer free mod tools, full mod support in multiplayer

posted by Pedro CubiasPedro Cubias 2482 days, 20 hours, 33 minutes ago
Thursday, September 09, 2010 6:59:44 AM GMT
A lot of people have been making a big deal out of multiplayer in Torchlight 2 -- and rightfully so -- but not so much talk has been about modding. The first game had a substantial mod community, thanks in part to Runic Games offering mod tools for free to all players. And during my demo of the game at PAX, a Runic rep confirmed that the company will once again freely distribute mod tools to the public. (more)

Team Fortress 2 update adds item trading, new game mode next month

posted by Pedro CubiasPedro Cubias 2508 days, 18 hours, 12 minutes ago
Saturday, August 14, 2010 9:20:18 AM GMT
If you thought Valve was going to cash out its stock in Team Fortress 2 after releasing an update for the game's ninth and final class, then you thought wrong. Speaking to PC Gamer, Valve's Robin Walker revealed that a mess of new content would be added to the game in yet another free update next month. Of course, after feeding "next month" through our inscrutable Valve Time Converter, that time period actually ranges between September 2010 and April 2035 (more)

Blizzard now moderating 'inappropriate' StarCraft 2 maps

posted by Pedro CubiasPedro Cubias 2516 days, 17 hours, 36 minutes ago
Friday, August 06, 2010 9:56:08 AM GMT
Look out, all you naughty StarCraft 2 map makers out there, Blizzard is watching. A thread popped up on the StarCraft 2 community forum in which a user named Cyrileo complained of his map being removed from Battle.net. According to Cyrileo, the mapped was deemed "inappropriate" by Blizzard and subsequently deleted. Further on in the thread, as reported by our cohorts at Big Download, Blizzard community manager Lylirra noted that all maps are "subject to review to ensure that they promote a fun and safe... Apple Ditches Nvidia, Goes ATI-only for Desktops

posted by Pedro CubiasPedro Cubias 2524 days, 3 hours, 7 minutes ago

If you take a closer look at the Mac Pro and iMac refreshes this week, you'll notice that Apple has ditched Nvidia graphic parts in favor of strictly choosing ATI GPUs. From a technology perspective, Nvidia right now has the shinier bullet point list with its Fermi-based chips, but all iMac and Mac Pro options are comprised of ATI's Evergreen family. (more)

Now You Really Can Drink Like A Murloc

Drink mead, World of Warcraft fans? If you don't, you may want to start, then start drinking from one of these. It's a new entry in Taverncraft's line of steins and tankards (they've done Warhammer Online ones previously), and rather than go the dignified route and emblazon it with heraldry and heroic deeds, they've slapped some murlocs on the front and a rather fetching solid pewter murloc on the lid. StarCraft 2 getting 3D support post-launch

posted by Pedro CubiasPedro Cubias 2549 days, 18 hours, 39 minutes ago
Sunday, July 04, 2010 8:53:05 AM GMT
While StarCraft 2 may benefit from a "robust new 3D graphics-rendering engine," we didn't know until recently that the game would be receiving a post-launch patch enabling that other kind of 3D (read: the "needs glasses" kind). In an interview with IGN at a South Korean media event -- where, no joke, a StarCraft 2 logo-emblazoned Korean Air plane was unveiled -- production director Chris Sagaty explained, "We will be releasing 3D in the first few months, for those Nvidia cards and screens that support it." Watch the Portal 2 E3 demo and smile

posted by Pedro CubiasPedro Cubias 2554 days, 3 hours, 37 minutes ago

There are more than a few great things in this video (which covers the first part of our E3 single-player demo; six more parts are expected this week). The first is the introduction of a cheeky, British personality orb. He's cheeky, British, and we already love him. And GLaDOS. Oh, GLaDOS, how we have missed you. Anyway, just try to watch this video without smiling (or outright laughing). We dare you. Go ahead. You monsters. (more)

Mac versus PC. The cross platform war is officially on, Team Fortress 2 style. Slip in your earbuds, Mac owners, because the team-based multiplayer shooter is now available for download. For free. Valve is kicking off Team Fortress 2's war between the latte sipping Mac snobs who spent way too much on their computers and the filthy Windows gamers who wouldn't know good design if it was buried deep within their system's registry. Or something. And it's doing so by letting everyone play TF2 this weekend fo... (more)

posted by Pedro CubiasPedro Cubias 2614 days, 20 hours, 3 minutes ago

Valve promised that Steam on Mac would arrive in April. As you're no doubt aware, April is nearly over. Does that make Steam... vaporware? Not quite. Put away the Caruso sunglasses for two more weeks, because our friends at Joystiq just received a one-line email reading: "Valve today announced the public release of Steam for the Mac is May 12. Please stay tuned for more information." Oh well -- at least you're not waiting for Steam on Linux, and you can always stock up on Razer peripherals while you endu... (more)

StarCraft II's Cool, Sometimes Crazy Single Player Liberties

posted by Pedro CubiasPedro Cubias 2621 days, 5 hours, 24 minutes ago

Blizzard is creating a wildly different experience for those who choose to play StarCraft II: Wings of Liberty's single-player campaign, adding units, vehicles and upgrades that you just won't see in multiplayer, from the familiar Firebat to the bizarre Predator. The last time we played StarCraft II's single-player game, we laid out the unit, base and ship upgrades that will trick out units with special abilities you won't see in multiplayer games. At the time, that included the return of units from the ... (more)
