Have a PS3 Brink patch to go with your PSN restoration

posted by Pedro CubiasPedro Cubias 2286 days, 32 minutes ago
Tuesday, May 17, 2011 6:50:08 AM GMT
Splash Damage has celebrated the return of the PlayStation Network by releasing a lovely patch for your copy of Brink. I'm sure all thirty PS3 Brink players will be thrilled with the news. The fix is, essentially, the same as the one the Xbox 360 received. Chiefly, it forces teams to only have four human players per side, unless they choose the new "Big Teams" option. Splash Damage said it will "closely monitor" the performance of the game on the PlayStation Network. (more)

This past weekend, Sony confirmed that it was beginning a regional, phased restoration of PSN and Qriocity services. SOE announces free month, rewards for players affected by downtime

posted by Pedro CubiasPedro Cubias 2288 days, 22 hours, 32 minutes ago
Saturday, May 14, 2011 8:51:03 AM GMT
Despite initial assurances, Sony Online Entertainment eventually confirmed that yes, it did misplace some of your user data recently, and the company feels really, really sorry about that. It can't actually get the data back, of course (that's not how it works), but SOE says it will do its best to make it up to customers with free stuff, as announced on its blog today. (more)

posted by Pedro CubiasPedro Cubias 2288 days, 22 hours, 35 minutes ago
Saturday, May 14, 2011 8:47:11 AM GMT
Sony has been pretty quiet this week. After missing its deadline for beginning the reintroduction of PSN and Qriocity services, the company has taken to its blog only once. On Tuesday the company posted a short message to say that it would be ‘a few more days at least’ before PSN comes back and that it was sorry it didn’t have anything more to tell users. (more)

Sony Details SOE Compensation Package

posted by Pedro CubiasPedro Cubias 2288 days, 22 hours, 36 minutes ago
Saturday, May 14, 2011 8:46:35 AM GMT
Though Sony’s been quite consistent with its PSN-related updates to the PlayStation Blog, we haven’t seen nearly as many updates for SOE users. The company recently detailed compensation packages for users and revealed that it would offer 12 months of AllClear ID PLUS at no cost to PlayStation Network and Qriocity account holders. At the time, there was said to be something similar in the works for SOE users. This week, SOE detailed what it’s doing to ensure users are protected and compensated for the ou... (more)

Last weekend, Sony told consumers that the PlayStation Network should be back up and running within a week. As you may have noticed, a week's gone by, and you still can't play Warhawk. Sony has therefore made a new announcement, stating that the PSN outage is back to "indefinite" status. (more)

Sony in 'Final Stages of Testing' for PSN

posted by Pedro CubiasPedro Cubias 2295 days, 1 hour, 33 minutes ago
Sunday, May 08, 2011 5:49:53 AM GMT
Sony’s PSN and Qriocity services were switched off on the evening of April 20 and have remained off since then. Following a serious breach of its networks, Sony told users that the reason it was taking so long to switch PSN and Qriocity services back on was because the company needed to re-build its system to further strengthen its network infrastructure. Late last night, Sony posted an update on the security team’s progress with the new system. (more)

Whoops. If you'll recall, Sony held what can only be described as an emergency press event in Japan a week ago in order to issue a number of assurances about the resumption of service as it relates to the PlayStation Network and Qriocity. Seven days later, things are still as dead as they were pre-Cinco de Mayo. This evening, the company's Senior Director of Corporate Communications Patrick Seybold punched out a quick update to let the world know that they could actually leave the house and find somethin... posted by Pedro CubiasPedro Cubias 2296 days, 22 hours, 14 minutes ago

Sony this week made headlines with an open letter responding to questions from congress regarding the PSN and SOE breaches. One of the more interesting parts of the text was the revelation that Sony had discovered a file planted on the SOE servers titled ‘Anonymous’ and containing the words, “We are Legion.” Discovered earlier this week, the SOE intrusion resulted in the theft of thousands of credit and debit card numbers. Sony's "Welcome Back" package of free software and PlayStation Plus subscriptions was a nice gesture, but it won't help you if your credit card gets fraudulently charged in the aftermath of the PlayStation Network debacle. That, however, is exactly what Debix is for. Sony's announced that it will provide a complimentary one-year subscription to Debix's "AllClear ID Plus" identity theft protection service to all PlayStation Network and Qriocity account holders in the United States, which will attempt to p... Sucker Punch extending inFamous 2 beta due to PSN issues

posted by Pedro CubiasPedro Cubias 2306 days, 23 hours, 41 minutes ago

To make up for lost time caused by the PlayStation Network outage, developer Sucker Punch Productions will be giving the inFamous 2 user-generated content beta an extension. I mean, why wouldn't they? For now, the studio is waiting on PSN to come back before giving out any definitive word on how long the beta will go for. Again, makes sense. (more)
