WRUP: GamesCom, GDC Europe incoming

posted by Pedro CubiasPedro Cubias 2534 days, 21 hours, 24 minutes ago
Saturday, August 14, 2010 9:14:52 AM GMT
Fun fact: Europe makes up 20 percent of Joystiq's traffic, with half of that being from the UK. So, first off, sincere thanks to Europe! With that said, we will be over in Germany next week for GDC Europe and GamesCom. EA and Sony have back-to-back press conferences scheduled for next Tuesday, starting at 10:00 a.m. EDT. Although we aren't expecting another reveal like last year's PS3 Slim, surprises are always welcome. So, check out our coverage of Europe's biggest gaming show next week. (more)

Sony Planning PSP Go Phone Running Android 3.0

posted by Pedro CubiasPedro Cubias 2535 days, 23 hours, 2 minutes ago
Friday, August 13, 2010 7:36:32 AM GMT
This is a rumor we've heard many times before. With Sony Ericsson regularly associating its phones with other Sony products (the Walkman line for music phones, the Cybershot line for camera phones), it seems like it's only a matter of time before we see a gaming phone linked to the PSP. (more)

posted by Pedro CubiasPedro Cubias 2541 days, 21 hours, 55 minutes ago
Saturday, August 07, 2010 8:43:47 AM GMT
Tuesday brought news of a Japanese RPG for Sony's PSP that allows players to punish girls by spanking or via other physical means. The details came from this week's edition of Dengeki PlayStation, and apparently the punishment component is a central element to the game. According to the magazine, the developers believe that the game's final rating won't be "too harsh" despite its content. (more)

Real Madrid's Kaka announced as FIFA 11 cover athlete

posted by Pedro CubiasPedro Cubias 2542 days, 20 hours, 26 minutes ago
Friday, August 06, 2010 10:12:31 AM GMT
EA Sports has announced that Brazilian soccer star Kaká (pronounced kuh-KA, not like "caca," you immature dolts) will be on the cover of every copy of FIFA 11. But he's just one of 17 footballers who will appear on the box -- the game will have territory-specific packaging, so players from teams in other countries will join Kaká on the box in those respective nations. (At this time, EA is not revealing the other cover athletes.) (more)

Family Feud is top PSN game in July

posted by Pedro CubiasPedro Cubias 2542 days, 20 hours, 49 minutes ago
Friday, August 06, 2010 9:50:19 AM GMT
After months of domination by one of the Final Fantasy games, the PlayStation Network has finally managed to snag a new victor on its Top 10 chart. However, it probably isn't what you're expecting. Ludia's digital recreation of Family Feud snags the top spot, away from new games like DeathSpank. We're glad that indie favorite Joe Danger still stands strong on the list, but we're still bewildered by the large number of Mortal Kombat II downloads. Seriously people, stop it. (more)

Game SERIES Debate to the Death! Persona series

posted by Pedro CubiasPedro Cubias 2544 days, 21 hours, 24 minutes ago
Wednesday, August 04, 2010 9:15:15 AM GMT
Last week was a nostalgia nightmare for many readers, as we were tasked with the challenge of picking which EarthBound (Mother) game was our favorite out of the series. Some were completely on board with the newer Mother 3, while some stood by the EarthBound game they grew up with, but most were torn over the choices and forced to weigh the pros and cons before making a careful decision. That's always the sign of a good debate! In the end, after much fist-shaking at Nintendo, here were the results: (more)

Sony will release "fully localized" versions of Killzone 3 (in Spanish and Brazilian Portuguese) and inFamous 2 (in Spanish) in Latin America next year. According to the company, the localization will include "actors, action, dialog, effects and every inch of gameplay." We have no idea how "action" and "effects" are different in Spanish and Brazilian Portuguese, but it sounds fascinating. Speaking specifically about inFamous 2, Sony states localization for the region will create new elements that will "... (more)

After a disappointing showing in their annual report for 2009, Sony's PlayStation division is moving back to black with their financials. Nikkei is reporting that the consumer electronics giant will announce a return to profitability when they release second quarter figures on Thursday. This is also in stark contrast to Sony's first quarter performance last year, where the division saw a loss of 25.7 billion yen. (more)

In North America, XSEED is releasing a bunch of Nihon Falcom PSP games, including Ys Seven and several The Legend of Heroes games, on UMD, with Ys Seven getting the full limited-edition treatment. XSEED is also planning to provide Europe with a bumper crop of Falcom games -- in a convenient format. Tuesday Sony released firmware for both the PlayStation 3 console and the PSP handheld system. But with the hype surrounding Sony's launch of the PlayStation Plus subscription service and the added feature in Tuesday's PS3 firmware release, the PSP's update took somewhat of a backseat... that is until reports of an unannounced Easter egg began to appear. Preview: Kingdom Hearts: Birth by Sleep

posted by Pedro CubiasPedro Cubias 2591 days, 22 hours, 25 minutes ago

At last year's E3, I got a chance to check out Kingdom Hearts' first North American outing on handhelds, 358/2 Days (or, as Google's automatic calculator called it when I just searched to make sure I had the name right, 179 Days). I recall being impressed at how they managed to ape the solid experience the game delivered on PS2 on a portable platform, albeit at the cost of a bit of visual power and general gameplay depth. Project Diva's new DLC is better than the upcoming sequel

E3 might be on, but here at Destructoid we cover other games, too. Like this one! It's called Hatsune Miku: Project Diva. It's a PSP rhythm game based on the singularly amazing "Vocaloid" line of virtual singing idols. Anyway, the sequel's out coming out on July 24th, for the PSP, six weeks from now. It will feature not just songs by Miku herself, but also tunes from other Vocaloid pals, all of whom will get their own costume sets, animations and duet performances. Wonderful. An improved sequel to a gre... (more)

Sony: The PSP Go Was Kind of An Experiment

posted by Pedro CubiasPedro Cubias 2599 days, 22 hours, 27 minutes ago
Thursday, June 10, 2010 8:11:43 AM GMT
Amid speculation that Sony will launch a PSP2 at E3 next week, MCVUK asked SCEE president and CEO Andrew House about the success and sales of the PSP Go. House replied that one of the reasons the PSP Go was launched was to see what customers really wanted and because of this, the success can't be measured in sales. (more)
