Review: Growlanser: Wayfarer of Time

Everytime I put my PSP down, something comes out to make me pick it back up. And it's usually an RPG. That said, I have no problems with new title releases late in the system's life, especially when they're as engaging as Growlanser: Wayfarer of Time. (more)

You probably don't remember Puddle, a LocoRoco type puzzle game that was created by six French students for the 2010 GDC Independent Games Festival. It was previously available on the PSN and XBLA networks in January of this year, but now, it's also coming to the Playstation Vita. (more)

Atlus RPG Growlanser: Wayfarer of Time gets shiny website

Japanese tactical role-player Growlanser IV: Over Reloaded for the PlayStation 2 never made out of Japan and Atlus thinks that's an absolute tragedy. A greater calamity still is the woeful lack of support Sony's portables have been receiving as of late. Luckily for us Atlus will soon be remedying both problems in one fell swoop with the release of Growlanser: Wayfarer of Time. (more)

Sony's House: Gaikai expansion to other Sony platforms 'absolutely' possible

posted by Pedro CubiasPedro Cubias 1819 days, 9 hours, 28 minutes ago

Assuming it successfully clears all of the regulatory hurdles that govern these types of deals, Sony's $380 million acquisition of Gaikai (and the mysterious cloud gaming service borne from said purchase) may eventually benefit the electronics megalith's non-dedicated-yet-gaming-capable devices like cell phones, internet-connected televisions and Blu-Ray players, waffle irons, etc. (more)

LEGO games. Love 'em or hate 'em, they're not going anywhere. There's always some pop culture property out there that looks so ridiculous yet so FUN when done up in LEGO blocks. For the most part, the core gameplay has stayed the same for many of these titles; there has been little innovation or change of the tried-and-true formula. (more)

Over the course of the last generation XSEED Games has come seemingly out of nowhere to steal my heart. That's in no small part due to the fact that the publisher is always bringing new and intriguing Japanese software to platforms that the rest of the publishing world seems to ignore. (more)

Sony: 'No definitive plans' for Resistance series, no games currently in the works

The folks who created the Resistance series, Insomniac Games, are no longer working on it. This much we know. But what of Sony? The Japanese publishing giant owns the intellectual property rights to the Resistance series – as evidenced by the recent release of Resistance: Burning Skies on Vita, developed by Nihilistic – but is it planning on any more series entries? "We have no definitive plans," Sony Computer Entertainment Europe producer Daniel Brooke said in a recent interview. (more)

Juliet Starling's zombie slaying adventure might be coming to stores next Tuesday, but I wanted to talk to you about some other students affiliated with Grasshopper Manufacture. In June of last year the Lollipop Chainsaw developer launched their "Game Campus Festa" program, accepting pitches from teams of Japanese game development students looking to work alongside the studio to make PlayStation Vita titles. E3: Retro City Rampage in my hands! My dreams came true!

The final game I checked out at E3 was the PS Vita port of Retro City Rampage, the title I was most looking forward to playing. With the copious amounts of hands-on previews and the frustration of its seemingly endless development, I have been beyond antsy. It was supposed to come out last month! (more)

PSP gets its own homebrew online gaming network, outweighs Sony's own efforts (video)

posted by Pedro CubiasPedro Cubias 1852 days, 7 hours, 39 minutes ago

Sony made much ado of the PSP's position as one of the first online gaming consoles, but unless your idea of online play involves Skype calls, there hasn't been a lot to go on since 2004. Team PRO is addressing that deficit through Prometheus, a completely community-driven rival to PSN. The hack lets PSP games with support for ad hoc WiFi play go online by wrapping the normal local-only multiplayer in an emulator library that broadcasts to other Prometheus players. (more)

Review: Resistance: Burning Skies

posted by Pedro CubiasPedro Cubias 1855 days, 8 hours, 28 minutes ago
Tuesday, May 29, 2012 8:43:12 AM GMT
For a long time, Sony has wanted to bring the console experience to handheld devices, and the PlayStation Vita represents its most successful attempt to date, armed as it is with impressive visual capabilities and a wealth of control options. Ironically, the Vita's early games ignored the Vita's strength in this regard, instead focusing on tech demos for touch controls in an industry where touch control has very much been demonstrated to death. We often demand to see something new, yet when we do see something new, we become scared. Original concepts and mechanics have a tendency to make our brains hurt. Velocity made my brain hurt, and not just a little, either. (more)
