Electronic Entertainment Design and Research analyst Jesse Divnich has a few ideas about what Sony meant by "an affordable price that's appropriate for the handheld gaming space" when talking about the NGP's launch price. Speaking with GamesIndustry, Divnich predicted that the device would retail for between $299 and $349 at launch, which ... um, seems a little high when compared to other contenders in the "handheld gaming space." Toby "Tobuscus" Turner's literal adaptations of trailers are both hilarious and impressive. His latest effort is no different: a Dead Space 2 TV ad combining his parodying skills with the ad's song, Smashing Pumpkins' 1995 hit, "Bullet with Butterfly Wings." (more)

We're expecting Sony to officially announce and detail the successor to the PSP later this week. But, Japanese newspaper Nikkei is alleging a few early details. Firstly, the portable will supposedly feature an OLED screen. Secondly (and more importantly!), the system will support 3G data, enabling over-the-air multiplayer and video and game downloads. In Japan, the service will be offered by NTT DoCoMo. And although the PSP2 will connect to cellular service, it won't make phone calls -- that's left for t... (more)

Dead Space 2 includes code for 'Ser Isaac of Clarke' armor in Dragon Age 2

posted by Pedro CubiasPedro Cubias 2462 days, 9 hours, 26 minutes ago
Friday, January 21, 2011 9:15:20 AM GMT
EA has announced that early copies of Dead Space 2 (due out next Tuesday, January 25) will include a code to unlock special "Ser Isaac of Clarke" armor in Dragon Age 2, which arrives March 8. As you can see in the video after the break, the armor is a little more, well, medieval than Clarke's rig in Dead Space, but the resemblance is certainly there. (more)

Frontier's 'The Outsider' on hold, but not canceled

posted by Pedro CubiasPedro Cubias 2462 days, 9 hours, 26 minutes ago
Friday, January 21, 2011 9:15:17 AM GMT
It seems The Outsider's inability to gel with a publisher has finally forced Frontier Developments to put the game on hold, according to statements made by studio head David Braben to Rock, Paper, Shotgun and Develop. "We have had to change priorities because of requirements on other unannounced projects," Braben told RPS, implying that development on The Outsider had ceased in favor of more promising ventures. ESRB rates Magicka for PS3 and 360, Paradox still hoping for multiplatform release

posted by Pedro CubiasPedro Cubias 2462 days, 9 hours, 27 minutes ago

A ray of hope has been cast on the chances of lighthearted action RPG Magicka arriving on consoles. The game has been rated by the ESRB for both Xbox 360 and PS3 (the PC version should launch this month). Now, before co-op dungeon crawler fans get too excited, know that the ESRB is a fickle mistress and not always the prognosticator we believe it to be. (more)

Blaze announces its own Move gun attachment

posted by Pedro CubiasPedro Cubias 2462 days, 9 hours, 28 minutes ago

You know what they say: You can never have too many gun-shaped peripherals in which to dock your PlayStation Move controller, unless, of course, you already have two, in which case, you do in fact have too many. (Trust us, people say that all the time.) However, assuming you haven't already indulged in one of the Move gun attachments already on the market, you may want to take a look at Blaze's recently revealed stab shot at violence-ing the peripheral. The (admittedly incomplete) history of gaming in 4 minutes

posted by Pedro CubiasPedro Cubias 2463 days, 10 hours, 57 minutes ago

An (almost) one-shot video chronicling the evolution of console gaming by design students from Germany may be incomplete (they acknowledge as much), but it's the clever presentation that makes it worth watching. The piece hits major points by kicking off with the Oscilloscope from 1958, the NES from the 80s and then does its best to keep up after the 16-bit generation kicks in during the '90s. (more)

Digital Foundry pits PS3 Mass Effect 2 against Xbox 360 original

posted by Pedro CubiasPedro Cubias 2463 days, 10 hours, 57 minutes ago
Thursday, January 20, 2011 7:44:31 AM GMT
Not satisfied with its analysis of the PS3 Mass Effect 2 demo -- which was apparently based on old code -- Digital Foundry has posted a lengthy comparison of the PS3 and Xbox 360 retail editions of Mass Effect 2. There's a lot of information to digest in the article, including several videos and screenshots. The upshot: Most gamers won't notice the differences between the two games, though it seems the 360 version barely edges out the PS3 one in terms of a consistent frame-rate. (more)

Marvel vs. Capcom 3's alternate costumes' comic book origins explored

posted by Pedro CubiasPedro Cubias 2463 days, 10 hours, 58 minutes ago
Thursday, January 20, 2011 7:43:19 AM GMT
Apparently, a little bit more thought went into the alternate costumes of Marvel vs. Capcom 3 than just "hey, this outfit would probably look cool in red and black." IGN recently explored the canonical comic book origins of a handful of Marvel fighters' extra duds, including Storm's crimson X-Treme X-Men get-up, Dormammu's Strange Tales green-and-yellow armor, and Captain America's Red Guardian costume, which, as you probably sussed out, is pretty red.
