Review: Tower Wars

posted by Pedro CubiasPedro Cubias 1800 days, 15 hours, 18 minutes ago
Tuesday, September 11, 2012 8:31:44 AM GMT
Tower defense games are somewhat an addiction of mine; instinctively strategic yet part determination and endurance, these titles have always delighted and frustrated the wits out of me. Lately, there’s been a surge of tower defense games -- from casual to creative, each game that comes out seems to invent or broaden some new aspect of the genre. As a result, breaking the mold of basic tower defense principles and coming out with something unique can be tricky. (more)

NYT: EA tried to buy Valve

posted by Pedro CubiasPedro Cubias 1800 days, 15 hours, 23 minutes ago

EA has tried "over the years" to buy out Valve, the New York Times reports. These talks, had they ever reached negotiation, would have valued Valve at "well over $1 billion," NYT says, which is most likely a ridiculous understatement. (more)

Review: They Bleed Pixels

posted by Pedro CubiasPedro Cubias 1806 days, 15 hours, 40 minutes ago
Wednesday, September 05, 2012 8:10:13 AM GMT
Amusing story: I was sent a beta code for They Bleed Pixels so that I could get a little hands-on time before the official release. For some reason, Steam wouldn't run the game, forcing me to spend the bulk of the evening and the following morning trying to get the thing to work. Turned out to be a faulty installation of the bundled XNA Framework. (more)

best wtc plane simulator (they couldn't even bother with grammar) was probably not even an actual game, what with the screenshots being photographs of the actual World Trade Center attack. Naturally, most Greenlight users were not amused and swiftly reported it. (more)

Sometimes, notable games get passed on when seeking approval for a Steam release. Valve's solution has been to put some of the power into the hands of the community with Steam Greenlight. The feature is live as of today, allowing users to vote up games they'd like to see launch on Steam. (more)

Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic II now on Steam

posted by Pedro CubiasPedro Cubias 1818 days, 14 hours, 44 minutes ago
Friday, August 24, 2012 9:05:46 AM GMT
Finally! As much as I enjoyed the original Knights of the Old Republic, it was its much-maligned sequel that I felt a greater connection to. Considering my Xbox copy is residing overseas, it's handy that KOTOR II - The Sith Lords is now available on Steam. I can't remember having too many problems, despite the game's buggy reputation, but that rushed ending (or lack thereof) still rankles. (more)

It seemed unlikely that Ubisoft's post-apocalyptic survival game I Am Alive was going to ever make it to PC due to concerns about piracy. Well, someone over there clearly ran the numbers and determined that such a port would be worthwhile after all. Funny how that works. (more)

On tonight's episode of GTTV, Valve's Gabe Newell revealed that a beta for Big Picture mode would launch "soon."
