Valve launches Team Fortress 2 beta program

posted by Pedro CubiasPedro Cubias 2392 days, 19 hours, 26 minutes ago
Sunday, December 05, 2010 11:23:38 AM GMT
Team Fortress 2 is ever-evolving and a new initiative from Valve hopes to make this rampant evolution a bit safer for all players through the Team Fortress 2 public beta. Accessible to all owners of the game on Steam (open your Library then install "Team Fortress 2 Beta" from your games list), it's a special version of the game that lets Valve tinker around with game mechanics while you test 'em out live. Think: scientist and guinea pig. You're the guinea pig. (more)

A world of previously unseen, weirdly physics-based nightmares now await Mac owners. That's right, the one and only Garry's Mod supports Steam for Mac. As an added bonus, if you own the PC version, you won't have to pay a second time. And if you're totally new to the, uh, "game," it's temporarily down to $4.99 (more)

In a candid post on Introversion Software's DEFCON forums, company co-founder Mark Morris admits that the Darwinia+ developer was close to closing up shop following disappointing sales of the game's XBLA port. "Internally we knew within about an hour of Darwinia+'s launch that it hadn't done well enough," Morris wrote. "It took us about two weeks to really accept that and the awful realisation that we didn't have enough to continue with the office or the staff. We had a bunch of creditors knocking at the... (more)

Saturday, August 14, 2010 9:20:18 AM GMT
If you thought Valve was going to cash out its stock in Team Fortress 2 after releasing an update for the game's ninth and final class, then you thought wrong. Speaking to PC Gamer, Valve's Robin Walker revealed that a mess of new content would be added to the game in yet another free update next month. Of course, after feeding "next month" through our inscrutable Valve Time Converter, that time period actually ranges between September 2010 and April 2035 (more)

Natural Selection 2 is a game we haven't really covered before in any official capacity. I don't have a good reason as to why that is, but I'm here to make amends. This real-time strategy/first-person shooter hybrid has always been on my radar under the "fascinating yet far off" category. (more)

Aliens vs. Predator gets Bughunt Map Pack DLC July 7

posted by Pedro CubiasPedro Cubias 2549 days, 22 hours, 33 minutes ago

The problem with the struggle between the Aliens and Predators is that both are pretty equally matched: Predators have a lot of technology and stand about 200 feet tall (give or take a couple hundred feet), while Aliens have greater numbers and acidic blood that could eat through a truckload of fruitcake in milliseconds. Humans have -- uh, actually, we just have soft, fertile bodies and aesthetically-pleasing skull shapes. Talk about your bum deals, right? (more)
