'Gold's Gym Dance Workout' sessions start this fall

posted by Pedro CubiasPedro Cubias 2694 days, 10 hours, 16 minutes ago
Thursday, June 03, 2010 8:25:39 AM GMT
Gold's Gym Dance Workout is set to continue Ubisoft's cost-effective, potential hit-making formula this August. For those just joining us, Ubi's Just Dance has sambaed silly amounts of cash into the publisher's coffers. And because you can't stop the beat, the company is premiering Dance on Broadway this June. Science: EA Sports Active is a real workout

posted by Pedro CubiasPedro Cubias 2694 days, 10 hours, 17 minutes ago

Think the peripheral-equipped EA Sports Active provides nothing more than a wussy, girly-man workout? You might be right, but at least it's a wussy, girly-man doctor-approved workout. So says a new study conducted by a researcher from the University of Wisconsin, who found that EA's exer-game meets the requirements set up by the American College of Sports Medicine for "a healthy, active lifestyle." Ubisoft's Dance on Broadway hitting the Great White Wii

posted by Pedro CubiasPedro Cubias 2695 days, 10 hours, 22 minutes ago
Wednesday, June 02, 2010 8:19:54 AM GMT
Given the crazy sales and, no doubt, small budget of Ubisoft's Just Dance, it seems obvious that the company would follow up with another Wii dancing game. However, the next game in Ubisoft's dance series isn't a simple Just Dance sequel (though we're sure that'll happen too) -- rather than licensing a few pop hits and a few really embarrassing dance songs from the early '90s, the next game is about ... showtunes. CTA's Inflatable Wii Racecar is Awesome

posted by Pedro CubiasPedro Cubias 2695 days, 11 hours, 8 minutes ago
Wednesday, June 02, 2010 7:34:01 AM GMT
There are a lot of Wii peripherals out there, but hardly any of them are impressive enough to incite levels of 'want' that would make us consider handing over our hard earned cash. CTA Digital has an inflatable racing kart for the Wii that also supports Wii MotionPlus. Compatible with Mario Kart; Need for Speed: Pro Street; Need for Speed: Nitro; Need for Speed Undercover; Exite Truck and pretty much any other Wii racing game, the blow-up car sports a plastic steering wheel that serves as a dock for the... War for Cybertron will let you 'understand' Starscream

posted by Pedro CubiasPedro Cubias 2696 days, 10 hours, 23 minutes ago
Tuesday, June 01, 2010 8:18:55 AM GMT
I'm a huge fanboy when it comes to Starscream, something I've never kept secret. For a cartoon commercial character, Starscream has always been one of the most surprisingly fascinating and curious characters ever created. He's also one of the most gloriously underhanded, ambitious and bastardly. As a Starscream nut, I had to ask War for Cybertron's Matt Tieger how they're tackling the character and asked the all-important question -- High Moon Studios isn't going to make him too sympathetic, are they? War for Cybertron and Hasbro = BFFs

Transformers: War for Cybertron is a game based on a TV show based on toys. Hasbro, the franchise creator, loved War for Cybertron so much that it has adopted the game as official canon, and has also commissioned a set of toys for the game. So, soon there will be toys based on a game based on a TV show based on toys. Is that too meta for you? (more)

Just as expected, the highlight of this week's Nintendo Channel update is undoubtedly the demo for Dragon Ball: Origins 2. If you're looking for anything beyond that, you'll likely be disappointed. What better way to celebrate Memorial Day than by mowing down countless waves of evil henchmen and robots? Natsume's Wild Guns is a great arcade experience that both fans of shooters and crazy interpretations of historical events can get behind. Seriously, it's not a bad way to spend $8 (or hours of your time). (more)

Here's what H.A.W.X. 2 looks like

posted by Pedro CubiasPedro Cubias 2698 days, 11 hours, 15 minutes ago

Earlier this month, Tom Clancy's H.A.W.X. 2 was announced. Besides carrying the same ridiculous name as its predecessor, little about the flight game was mentioned. Jump forward to the present, where we now have a boatload of information. As someone who didn't play much of H.A.W.X., here's what seems most interesting to me as far as the sequel is concerned: mid-air refueling, which sounds both frustrating and somehow cool; controllable UAVs; and there's now taking off and landing as well. High Moon is not NOT making DLC for War for Cybertron

posted by Pedro CubiasPedro Cubias 2698 days, 11 hours, 33 minutes ago
Sunday, May 30, 2010 7:09:28 AM GMT
War for Cybertron is being published by Activision, and Activision games love downloadable content. Stands to reason that War for Cybertron will have DLC, right? It's more or less inevitable, but High Moon Studios can't confirm it. Nor will the developer deny it, either, so it's basically a sure bet. "We are yet to reveal our DLC plan," explains director Matt Tieger. "We're still under wraps on that. That's not a no, it's just that I can't yet talk about our DLC. Reserve Metroid: Other M, get snazzy 'art folio'

posted by Pedro CubiasPedro Cubias 2698 days, 11 hours, 33 minutes ago
Sunday, May 30, 2010 7:08:47 AM GMT
I'm not going to pretend that I know anything about "art folios," but I guess I'll be getting one with Metroid: Other M. You see, I've already reserved the game at GameStop. And by doing so, it guarantees I'll be receiving a "collectible art folio featuring 16 individual high-quality cards." Not sure how big this thing is, as the picture on GameStop.com could be misleading; I can't tell if they're the size of business cards or legal paper. Who cares; my guess is they'll feature some stunningly awesome M... (more)

I got seriously dissed by Dtoider Nothankyou in the last post I did about Xenoblade. He scooped me on these two videos, which are admittedly more interesting than the series of commercials for the game that I had just posted. You win this round, Nothankyou. I stand in awe of your videogame news scooping prowess. If you want to see the two soon-to-be-dead Gods that Colette freaked out over in this week's Bit Transmission, check out the video above. Is Super Mario Galaxy 2 the best platformer ever created?

Oh, I have to write more? Shoot. Okay, I will elaborate on why this is, but just know that there won’t be some kind of surprise ending at the conclusion of this feature. The “yes” may turn into a “YES!”, but, other than the enlarged typing, my opinion will not be swayed. NOT BE SWAYED, I TELL YOU! In our perfect 10 review of Super Mario Galaxy 2, fellow editor and object of my man crush Dale North excitedly called the Wii sequel the “Best Mario Game Ever!” Obviously I agree with this. The DS RPG, which touts "beautiful picture book visuals and an easy to control battle system," and a setting which "goes back to the basics and origins of the Final Fantasy series," will come to the US on October 5, according to the game's official site. You've used your Wii Balance Board to exercise, ski, hula hoop and snowboard. Soon, you'll have the opportunity to use the peripheral in the manner God intended: To do the Hand Jive Hop. According to a press release from publisher 505 Games, Grease: The Game will allow two teams of four players to fight for "musical domination" using two USB microphones and the Balance Board. Oh, man. We've got chills, and we'll be entirely damned if they're not multiplying. (more)

See the Super Mario Galaxy 2 orchestra live (on video)

posted by Pedro CubiasPedro Cubias 2700 days, 10 hours, 2 minutes ago
Friday, May 28, 2010 8:40:12 AM GMT
For Super Mario Galaxy 2's soundtrack, Nintendo went all-out, recording the main theme with a 70-person orchestra. Footage of the assembled musicians playing the sweeping opening music has been released via the Japanese Nintendo Channel (watch it after the break), allowing us to see just how much more epic a piece of music is when you see it played by a room full of people. If you're wondering why Shigeru Miyamoto looks so bored, it's because there was no room in the orchestra for his banjo. (more)
