Rumor: Black Wii Comes To North America In May

posted by Pedro CubiasPedro Cubias 2762 days, 4 hours, 20 minutes ago
Tuesday, April 27, 2010 7:35:39 AM GMT
When will North American Wii owners finally have a sleek black console that matches their black Wii Remote, Nunchuk and Classic Controller? Maybe as early as May, according to multiple retail sources. Tipsters from Target, GameStop and Future Shop—as well as one shopper at FYE, where the black Wii bundle is apparently available for pre-order—tell Kotaku that a new Wii bundle is bound for the United States and Canada in May, one that will include a black-colored Wii console, first released in Japan in the... Side-scrolling Mario Galaxy 2 footage is delightful

posted by Pedro CubiasPedro Cubias 2763 days, 6 hours, 6 minutes ago
Monday, April 26, 2010 5:49:24 AM GMT
Amongst all gamers of a certain age, there exists a very special, very sensitive part of the brain. The particular section is flooded with pleasure-inducing chemicals upon seeing Mario jump on (and subsequently flatten!) a Goomba. This effect is actually doubled when seen in a 2D context, so we have to append the latest Super Mario Galaxy 2 video with a warning: Prepare your pleasure centers, this one is a doozy. If you think you can handle it, watch the video after the break. (more)

Nintendo explains Metroid: Other M, Sin & Punishment 2 delays

posted by Pedro CubiasPedro Cubias 2763 days, 6 hours, 7 minutes ago

Nintendo delayed two of its big summer titles for Wii today: Metroid: Other M (to August 31) and Sin & Punishment: Star Successor (to June 27). When the company made the announcement, it provided no reasons. As it turns out, there is a decent reason for each delay. (more)

Jett Rocket trailer takes off

posted by Pedro CubiasPedro Cubias 2763 days, 6 hours, 9 minutes ago
Monday, April 26, 2010 5:46:46 AM GMT
Developer Shin'en released a trailer for its WiiWare platformer Jett Rocket. Let's just get this out of the way: Wow, this looks nice for a WiiWare game. We're kind of amazed by how nice the environments and the lighting effects look! It seems like there are plenty of interesting elements (or gimmicks) in the levels, as well. Oh, not to mention that the protagonist has a jetpack. (more)

Toy Story 3 trailer explains the customizable 'Toy Box' mode

posted by Pedro CubiasPedro Cubias 2763 days, 6 hours, 19 minutes ago
Monday, April 26, 2010 5:36:41 AM GMT
We've got to hand it to Avalanche Software: You guys sure know how to inject a modicum of ingenuity into an extremely tired genre. For instance, the upcoming game adaptation of Toy Story 3 was off our proverbial radar moments after it was first announced -- however, a recent trailer for the game's "Toy Box" mode, which allows its (presumably juvenile) players to make their own levels and missions, it's now taking up a tiny place in our minds. (And our hearts. (more)

"Mad Catz" isn't just the best name ever for a fictional group in Rock Band, it's also the new "principal peripherals partner" for the Rock Band franchise, including the upcoming Rock Band 3. The manufacturer now has worldwide rights to produce and distribute Rock Band peripherals. The company previously produced third-party peripherals for Rock Band and Rock Band 2. (more)

Sengoku Basara anime available for online streaming

posted by Pedro CubiasPedro Cubias 2765 days, 14 hours, 2 minutes ago
Friday, April 23, 2010 9:53:57 PM GMT
Wondering what all this Sengoku Basara stuff is about? We've certainly heard questions to the effect of "Sengoku Ba-whatnow?" a few times since the TGS announcement of the of the Wii/PS3 brawler. Funimation is licensing the popular anime show that ties into the game, and has posted the first two episodes online for free. If your curious, let that act as your introduction to the fictionalized version of Japan's Warring States period and its youthful, attractive reinterpretations of the country's most fam... (more)

Rare NES game 'Ufouria' rated by OFLC, Virtual Console release possible

posted by Pedro CubiasPedro Cubias 2765 days, 14 hours, 3 minutes ago
Friday, April 23, 2010 9:52:45 PM GMT
Sunsoft has started to revitalize its brand with the help of Gaijinworks' Victor Ireland. The strategy includes re-releases of classic games on Nintendo's Virtual Console, including Blaster Master, and the creation of original content -- also Blaster Master, actually. If a new rating by the Australian OFLC board is any indication, Sunsoft is planning a Virtual Console release of Ufouria: The Saga, a rare NES game that never made it to North America. (more)

Here's how Super Mario Galaxy 2's 'Super Guide' works

posted by Pedro CubiasPedro Cubias 2767 days, 15 hours, 16 minutes ago
Wednesday, April 21, 2010 8:39:57 PM GMT
I got to check out Super Mario Galaxy 2 at Nintendo yesterday and one of the new things that was revealed to me was Galaxy 2's version of the Super Guide feature seen in New Super Mario Bros. Wii. There's actually two systems in place to aid players: Hint TV and the Cosmic Guide. Mario will come across special TVs in levels which will show him how to get across certain sections. In one of the levels in the Fluffy Bluff Galaxy, there's a large open space that Mario needs to get across using the cloud suit... (more)

Here's a new Japanese trailer for Wii RPG Xenoblade. Interesting premise? Check. Dramatic cutscenes? Check. Awesome enemy designs? Check. Gorgeous music? Check. Gameplay footage? Uhm ... Seriously, we could really do with getting a look at how this damn thing plays. Everything I've seen concerning Xenoblade promises a terrific little RPG experience, but until we get a good look at the battle system, this is nothing but concept and whispers. I am itching to see how the game really looks, not just how cuts... (more)

But at a recent Capcom press event, the Japanese developer/publisher revealed two titles that are definitely destined for the worldwide market: Okamiden and Sengoku Basara: Samurai Heroes. (more)

Nintendo ships Wii Classic Controller Pro to sweaty-palmed Americans

posted by Pedro CubiasPedro Cubias 2768 days, 16 hours, 42 minutes ago
Tuesday, April 20, 2010 7:13:21 PM GMT
Nothing like coming through on a promise, right? You bet. If you'll recall, the Big N assured us all back in January that the jumbo-sized Wii Classic Controller Pro would begin shipping to America in April, and sure enough, that's exactly what it has done. After giving the Japanese a few months head-start, both the white and black accessories are now shipping from none other than Amazon for the tidy sum of $19.99 apiece. And yes, gift wrapping is available for a nominal fee. (more)

Here are some Flip's Twisted World screens to gawp at

Flip's Twisted World is looking like it could be a hot little game when it hits the Wii later this year. It looks like a traditional 3D platformer with a visual style that harks back to the era of PlayStation One mascot games. It also boasts a neat little world-flipping gimmick. That'll explain the name, then. Seriously, I'm quite looking forward to this one and it's definitely high on my list of promising Wii software. I love the art direction and the gameplay looks incredibly solid. Pretty much all yo... (more)

I love charts. We get blasted with videogame sales data repeatedly, but you never get the big picture, especially with console sales data. You always get some kind of spin or complementary comparison that does little to show you overall progress. (more)

Want team-accurate camera angles in MLB 2K10? Try this

posted by Pedro CubiasPedro Cubias 2769 days, 18 hours ago
Monday, April 19, 2010 5:55:52 PM GMT
I've been playing 2K Sports' Major League Baseball 2K10 for review, and I've noticed that one of the (few) ways in which it is better than Sony's MLB 10 The Show is its suite of highly customizable in-game camera angles. Kotaku's Owen Good noticed it, too, and in an effort to bring a higher degree of verisimilitude to MLB 2K10, he went in and tinkered with the camera angles in each of the ballparks of baseball's 30 teams to make the videogame resemble each team's TV broadcast as closely as possible. You might not remember Frontier Development's The Outsider, and that's fine. It's because it was announced back in 2005, and the developer hasn't spoken more than a few words about it since. Instead, it released a WiiWare game, LostWinds, and is hard at work on its sequel. (more)

NintendoWare Weekly: Mega Man 4, Bang Attack, Game & Watch

posted by Pedro CubiasPedro Cubias 2769 days, 18 hours, 17 minutes ago

The Wii's Mega Man arsenal has grown once again, adding Mega Man 4 to the collection of games that can be chosen from a menu and loaded up -- you know, like weapons on Mega Man's arm, except acquired through commerce and not robot murder. They'd be very different games if you had access to a charge card instead of a Charge Shot. (more)

Nintendo Sued By Interactive Exercise Company Over Wii Fit

posted by Pedro CubiasPedro Cubias 2773 days, 3 hours, 41 minutes ago

If you thought that a woman supposedly contracting persistent sexual arousal syndrome due to a Wii Fit injury would be the strangest controversy the game would ever be involved in, well, you're right. But here's another new controversy: Gamasutra reports that interactive exercise company IA Labs is suing Nintendo for allegedly infringing on two of their patents with Wii Fit -- and a number of other Wii products. Hot 2D action in Super Mario Galaxy 2, also Toad names
