Is Xbox 360 packaging getting a visual refresh?

posted by Pedro CubiasPedro Cubias 2631 days, 2 hours, 36 minutes ago
Monday, June 07, 2010 7:09:45 AM GMT
With Microsoft set to reveal Project Natal and the "future" of the Xbox 360 at E3, it may also be looking to refresh its visual branding in the retail space. A number of retailers and publishers are using box art imagery that bares a markedly different "top strip," as seen above. The new box art can be spotted on a number of titles listed at GameStop.com, including Kane & Lynch 2, Mafia II, as well as a number of others. While retailers are known for creating mock box art in-house for promotional pu... (more)

Ever hear of a third-person action title named NANO? Yeah, neither have we. Until now. Reader EGGY Beggy sent us details from a recent online survey he took which detailed the Xbox 360, PlayStation, and PC title. The year is 2044, and NANO follows the story of Hugo Glass, a wealthy man who uses his riches to travel and explore the world. After defending a village in Thailand against corruption, Glass finds himself in jail, and he eventually finds himself wrapped in a "corporate conspiracy," and accused ... (more)

Dig beneath the surface of the Red Faction: Armageddon trailer

posted by Pedro CubiasPedro Cubias 2632 days, 53 minutes ago
Sunday, June 06, 2010 8:52:43 AM GMT
There was something about the last installment in the Red Faction franchise which seemed to eradicate any fear we may have possessed while traversing the Martian landscape. That thing was, of course, a hammer the size of a teenager. Something tells us that won't be enough to stave off the subterranean terrors we'll encounter in the series' next chapter, Red Faction: Armageddon, which was debuted last night on GameTrailers TV. Click past the jump to see the very first, surprisingly spooky footage of the ... (more)

Rumor: Harmonix working on dancing game for Natal

posted by Pedro CubiasPedro Cubias 2634 days, 1 hour, 10 minutes ago
Friday, June 04, 2010 8:35:32 AM GMT
Rock Band 3's already been confirmed as Harmonix's next project, but is it the only one? Probably not, and if Game Informer's sources are correct, the developer may also be working on a Natal-based dancing game. True or not, you don't need to like the idea, but it might be the best move for the developer. I can't explain the worldwide popularity of Ubisoft's Just Dance, but its success has proven one thing: people want to dance. Harmonix recently applied for licenses for a number of danceable tracks, in... (more)

Joy Ride MIA, but Microsoft insists 'BigPark's vision' will come to life in 2010

posted by Pedro CubiasPedro Cubias 2635 days, 1 hour, 11 minutes ago
Thursday, June 03, 2010 8:33:56 AM GMT
It appears that Joy Ride has been wiped as cleanly as possible from Xbox.com. Its game page is missing, and even the link to it from MS's E3 page has been removed. Joystiq contacted Microsoft for clarification and a spokesperson responded, "We're excited to bring BigPark's vision to life in 2010. However, we have nothing further to announce at this time." We followed up, specifically asking if "BigPark's vision" was still Joy Ride, if the game was currently in development and if it'd be shown at E3. Th... (more)

Sonic Adventure, Crazy Taxi submitted to Korean ratings board by Microsoft

posted by Pedro CubiasPedro Cubias 2636 days, 1 hour, 24 minutes ago
Wednesday, June 02, 2010 8:21:10 AM GMT
Microsoft Korea has submitted Sega's Crazy Taxi and Sonic Adventure to the Korean ratings board, leading to speculation that the Dreamcast titles are racing to XBLA. Sega was unable to officially comment on the ratings. Sonic Adventure popped up like a blue blur on radar back in January, while Siliconera points out that Crazy Taxi has been banging around as a rumored XBLA release for a little while. With E3 only a couple weeks away, it wouldn't be surprising to hear more about the titles then -- you kno... (more)

BioWare Montreal seeking multiplayer programmers with Unreal Engine experience

A job listing for "multiplayer programmers" has appeared on EA's official website, specifically for BioWare Montreal -- a studio that describes itself in the same listing as "working on Mass Effect, one of the industry's most beloved and acclaimed franchises, as we build our way toward becoming a fully self-sufficient BioWare studio." EA's Montreal-based recruiter, Jeff Goldstein, apparently had a similar listing on his LinkedIn page (no longer available but captured by CinemaBlend), which pegged the mul... (more)

The game has players controlling one of two characters (or both!) -- a French Templar, and noble woman who has been pegged as a heretic. The team works together to uncover the mysterious of the Templars, in the process bringing to light the secrets of the Holy Grail. The game can be played cooperative, or you can go it alone. ESRB outs Alien Breed 2: Assault

posted by Pedro CubiasPedro Cubias 2636 days, 1 hour, 50 minutes ago
Wednesday, June 02, 2010 7:55:07 AM GMT
Alien Breed is getting ready to make its return! This according to the ESRB who recently rated Alien Breed 2: Assault for Xbox 360. The game is presumably the follow-up to Team17's Xbox LIVE Arcade top-down shooter, Alien Breed Evolution. Based on the description the game sounds about the same as Evolution -- aliens pop out of things, you shoot them with your rifle/shotugun/machine gun/flamethrower. Sounds okay to me. (more)

Valve cancels Portal 2 press event at E3 and it's amazing

posted by Pedro CubiasPedro Cubias 2636 days, 1 hour, 52 minutes ago
Wednesday, June 02, 2010 7:52:55 AM GMT
I'm deep in E3 planning, so when any one event gets canceled or shuffled, I'm not entirely pleased. But Valve, it can do whatever it wants. See, it had a Portal 2 press conference event taking place on Monday, June 14. Now it's not happening; it's been canceled. Valve says that it has replaced the event with a "surprise," but doesn't go into any details. I'll find out, I'm sure -- I'm already penciled in to see Portal 2 (and whatever else they'd like to show me -- begin speculation now) behind-closed-do... (more)

Here's why mutants are in Crackdown 2

posted by Pedro CubiasPedro Cubias 2636 days, 1 hour, 54 minutes ago

Not that you really need to explain zombie/mutant/freak outbreaks in this day and age, but the inclusion of them in Crackdown 2 seems odd. Out of place? Not at all -- these monstrosities tend to mesh nicely with open-world games. Still, there's been little in the way of an explanation so far. (more)
