Interview: Bungie discusses Activision, its 'new universe,' and what happens to Reach

posted by Pedro CubiasPedro Cubias 2617 days, 7 hours, 56 minutes ago
Friday, April 30, 2010 8:04:19 AM GMT
If it seems like all you've read about today is Bungie, well ... that's probably not far from the truth. Whether it's information about the highly anticipated Halo Reach beta – whose early "friends and family" access began today (giveaway here!) – to some unique Halo Reach swag to the news that the now independent developer has partnered with headline hogger Activision, it's Bungie's world today. We spoke with Bungie's Brian Jarrard and Joseph Staten about everything from their choice of Activision, to ... (more)

Bungie: We had to break through Infinity Ward 'noise' for Activision news

posted by Pedro CubiasPedro Cubias 2617 days, 7 hours, 58 minutes ago
Friday, April 30, 2010 8:02:12 AM GMT
Though many have speculated that today's Bungie-Activision partnership announcement was timed to help distract from the ongoing exodus from Activision darling Infinity Ward, the Halo dev insists that wasn't the case. In fact, Bungie's Joseph Staten said the developer was more concerned with the effect the Infinity Ward news could have on Bungie's own announcement. (more)

Free copy of Prototype with your Singularity purchase

posted by Pedro CubiasPedro Cubias 2618 days, 10 hours, 18 minutes ago
Thursday, April 29, 2010 5:42:11 AM GMT
On June 29, Raven Software's Singularity finally hits shelves. Here's the best part -- according to G4, if you buy it on the Xbox 360, you'll get Prototype for free. The deal, a mail-in offer, reminds me a bit of the "Buy Guitar Hero 5, get Guitar Hero Van Halen" for free deal Activision ran late last year. The difference here is that while Van Halen was of questionable quality, Prototype is by most accounts a pretty good game. Hell, our own Jim Sterling even thought it was "blatantly better than inFamo... (more)

Transformers: War for Cybertron video shows Jazz, Demolishor and Shockwave in action

posted by Pedro CubiasPedro Cubias 2619 days, 6 hours, 46 minutes ago

Joystiq would never condone violence; however, when it comes to robot-on-robot violence, we're all for it. It's not like they can feel anything, right? So we'd like to bring your attention to some pre-order bonuses for High Moon Studios' upcoming not-a-movie-game Transformers: War for Cybertron. Should you decide to enlist in the robo-wars early, you can nab yourself an exclusive character: Jazz, if you pre-order through Best Buy, Demolishor, should you go through Amazon, and Shockwave, if you go the Gam... New Games on Demand added, questionably priced

posted by Pedro CubiasPedro Cubias 2619 days, 6 hours, 46 minutes ago

Far Cry 2, Kane & Lynch: Dead Men and Shrek the Third are now on the Marketplace, as promised, all priced at $30. Three Hamiltons for Far Cry 2? That we can get behind. But the other two are definitely $20 fare, in our humble (professional) opinion. Especially since you can buy all three games new for near that price from online retailers such as Amazon. (more)

Tony Hawk's Tony Hawk: Shred Outed By Tony Hawk

posted by Pedro CubiasPedro Cubias 2626 days, 20 hours, 11 minutes ago
Tuesday, April 20, 2010 7:49:44 PM GMT
Skateboarding legend Tony Hawk may have just officially sent the Activision PR team into a 720-degree tizzy, tweeting about Tony Hawk: Shred, quite possibly the more shred-tastic follow-up to the skateboard-as-controller experiment Tony Hawk: Ride. Mr. Hawk cryptically named something that we're just wildly assuming is his next project by way of the Twitter, saying "Tony Hawk: Shred. There, I said it. Actually, I named it. Somewhere a PR team is reeling." Doubtful, as we've been expecting more Tony Hawk:... (more)

Study says violent gaming doesn't have a major impact on sleep -- Joystiq

posted by Pedro CubiasPedro Cubias 2629 days, 20 hours, 53 minutes ago
Saturday, April 17, 2010 7:07:33 PM GMT
A team of Australian researchers recently conducted a study to determine what effect -- if any -- late-night violent gaming sessions have on a young person's sleep cycle. Two groups of teenage boys were either made to play 50 minutes of Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare or watch March of the Penguins while lying in bed. The results showed that the group who played Modern Warfare took only a few minutes longer to fall asleep than those watching the movie, causing the researchers to think presleep gaming's ne... Activision 'Not Surprised' About Respawn As EA Calls Treyarch A 'B-team'

posted by Pedro CubiasPedro Cubias 2634 days, 8 hours, 26 minutes ago

Modern Warfare 3 in Development, But Hampered by Legal Dispute

posted by Pedro CubiasPedro Cubias 2635 days, 7 hours, 8 minutes ago
Monday, April 12, 2010 8:52:13 AM GMT
The fact that Modern Warfare 2 raked in obscene amounts of money basically made a third entry in the franchise a forgone conclusion, but it turns out Activision Blizzard's counter-lawsuit against fired Infinity Ward heads Jason West and Vince Zampella also made it official: Modern Warfare 3 is already in development. The bad news for gamers is the legal dispute, according to Activision, is delaying the project's pre-production. (more)
