Report: Activision may have paid 'tens of millions' to West, Zampella

posted by Pedro CubiasPedro Cubias 1793 days, 9 hours, 55 minutes ago
Tuesday, July 31, 2012 9:12:14 AM GMT
When ex-Infinity Ward employees Jason West and Vince Zampella settled their lawsuit with Activision, it was sudden, shocking, and most of all, secret. Activision paid out an undisclosed sum to West and Zampella just before a full trial was set to begin, and while it is expected the exact amount may never be made public, experts can still make an educated guess. Tony Hawk HD hits the over 100k mark in its first week

posted by Pedro CubiasPedro Cubias 1795 days, 11 hours, 12 minutes ago
Sunday, July 29, 2012 7:55:11 AM GMT
Only in its first week of sales up to this point, Tony Hawk's Pro Skater HD has already sold a total of 120,000 downloads. Apparently, its day-to-day sales have also managed to stay consistent since last Wednesday. It's worth noting that these sales are only for the Xbox Live Arcade version, as the PSN and PC releases have not launched yet. Pretty good for an HD remake of a fourteen year old game that we found to not particularly live up to the original games. (more)

Review: Tony Hawk's Pro Skater HD

posted by Pedro CubiasPedro Cubias 1805 days, 10 hours, 33 minutes ago
Thursday, July 19, 2012 8:34:30 AM GMT
Some classic games aren’t made around a great idea, but rather, great execution. The idea of a points-based arcade skateboard game wasn’t exactly radical in 1999, with games like 720° and Skate or Die! predating Tony Hawk's Pro Skater by a over a decade. It was recognized because developer Neversoft’s execution was near flawless. One sequel later and perfection was achieved. No other series made players feel like skateboarding supermen quite like Tony Hawk. (more)

007 Legends adapting 'On Her Majesty's Secret Service'

posted by Pedro CubiasPedro Cubias 1825 days, 11 hours, 11 minutes ago

Activision has confirmed "On Her Majesty's Secret Service" as another playable chunk of Bond history in the upcoming 007 Legends, which will consist of five different missions inspired by various James Bond movies (but with Daniel Craig voicing Bond throughout, apparently). "Moonraker" was the first title announced. The addition of "OHMSS" means players will get to jump into a film widely considered one of the best in the series. (more)

Review: The Amazing Spider-Man

When there's a new movie on the horizon, Activision's usually on call to bring us the obligatory videogame tie-in. As is the creed of the obligatory videogame tie-in, the product is rushed, slapdash, visually unimpressive, and interactively vapid. It is the irrefutable law of such licensed products. It is a law you do not break. (more)

Diablo III's new user restrictions further explained

posted by Pedro CubiasPedro Cubias 1831 days, 11 hours, 19 minutes ago

Blizzard has clarified some details surrounding the "review process" that new players will have to undertake when purchasing a digital copy of Diablo III. It seems that the studio misspoke when it said that players under review would be stuck in the Starter Edition of the game -- however, new users will still be stuck behind a gate until they're deemed worthy of full entry.
