Droid X Owners Consuming 5x as Much Data

posted by Pedro CubiasPedro Cubias 2557 days, 28 minutes ago
Saturday, July 24, 2010 8:19:00 PM GMT
Verizon is rumored to be moving away from unlimited data plans and towards a tiered system, and with more and more customers purchasing smartphones, it's easy to see why. The advent of smartphones for the masses has meant a significant number of people who previously wouldn't have required a data plan at all, are guzzling MBs thanks to data-intensive applications on their phones. Last month, Verizon's John Killian said things were expected to get even worse for wireless networks as new phones designed f... (more)

Android 2.2 (Froyo) versus iOS 4: the browser showdown (video)

posted by Pedro CubiasPedro Cubias 2573 days, 12 hours, 44 minutes ago

A little while back Google boldly claimed that Froyo would have the world's fastest mobile browser, but the lack of final software back then meant we'd had to tie up our itchy hands until now. And boy, it sure looks like it was worth the wait -- Ars Technica's JavaScript benchmarks show that not only is Froyo's browser almost three times faster than its Éclair counterpart, but it also beats iOS 4's Safari by at least two-fold. That said, numbers alone don't always reflect real-life performance -- especi... (more)

Motorola Droid X review

posted by Pedro CubiasPedro Cubias 2579 days, 13 hours, 23 minutes ago
Friday, July 02, 2010 7:23:55 AM GMT
The original Droid made a powerful statement. Actually, make that statements, plural: for Motorola, it was the largest single affirmation that it was going all-in with Android (after having already released the far less memorable midrange CLIQ on T-Mobile) and that it could play in the very highest rungs of the smartphone elite. For Verizon, the Droid was the carrier's very first Android device, period -- announced to great fanfare in collaboration with Eric Schmidt and crew -- serving as a pretty specta... (more)

Though it's unclear exactly how he's using the iPad, the surgeons in the video (seen here on Wired UK) pinch, zoom and drag their fingers across the screen, examining what appears to be the patient's insides or reference photos. Verizon: No iPhone in Immediate Future

posted by Pedro CubiasPedro Cubias 2607 days, 13 hours, 16 minutes ago
Friday, June 04, 2010 7:31:36 AM GMT
On the heels of a rumor that Verizon Wireless is testing a CDMA-capable Apple iPad on its network, a spokesman confirmed that the company has no plans to support the iPhone "in the immediate future." Given that AT&T's exclusivity deal with Apple carries on until 2012, the news shouldn't be surprising. With that said, rumors of a Verizon iPhone could still come to fruition once the contract expires. (more)
