Motorola Shadow slithers into Verizon's inventory database as MB810

posted by Pedro CubiasPedro Cubias 2699 days, 20 hours, 42 minutes ago
Sunday, May 30, 2010 6:44:38 AM GMT
If the whole "smoke -> fire" adage proves true once more, it's looking like Verizon loyalists can expect to see a Shadow at least a few milliseconds before a CDMA iPhone. Following up on months of leaks and rumors, we've got yet another snippet of evidence pointing towards a VZW release of the so-called Motorola Shadow. Spotted here in the carrier's inventory database, the MB810 moniker aligns perfectly with that WiFi certification we saw earlier in the month. Combine that with the fact that this is defi... (more)

Android 2.2 wastes no time getting hacked onto HTC Dream and Magic

Though we're not even a wee bit shocked to see a "usable" version of Froyo already available to owners of the G1 / Dream and Magic, we're definitely heartened to see that phones running 2008 specs can handily run a mid-2010 version of the platform. (more)

Froyo Update: Carriers Control Who Has Tethering

posted by Pedro CubiasPedro Cubias 2707 days, 19 hours, 11 minutes ago
Saturday, May 22, 2010 8:16:16 AM GMT
We should have seen this one coming: that cool tethering feature Google is inserting into Android 2.2 (Froyo) will be controlled by carriers. Given that current Android owners are using tethering apps and (typically) not having to pay an extra fee, it was assumed that it would be more of the same with the new update--sans the 3rd-party software. Unfortunately, that's not the case. (more)

Logitech's Stand-alone Google TV Box Gets Spec'd

posted by Pedro CubiasPedro Cubias 2707 days, 19 hours, 14 minutes ago
Saturday, May 22, 2010 8:13:04 AM GMT
Yesterday Google announced it was teaming up with Intel, Sony and Logitech for a little venture called Google TV. Though Sony is to supply the televisions (and Intel the chips for those tellies), Logitech is supplying not only the remotes and keyboards but standalone companion boxes for those of us who don't feel like investing in a new TV just for Google. HTC EVO 4G review

posted by Pedro CubiasPedro Cubias 2709 days, 19 hours, 53 minutes ago
Thursday, May 20, 2010 7:34:03 AM GMT
As a mobile platform, the EVO 4G's Android foundation is still an infant -- well, okay, perhaps it's a tweener -- but in its two-odd years in the public spotlight, the list of truly revolutionary devices to use it has been a significant one: the G1 for being the first to market; the Nexus One for ushering in a new (and subsequently killed) retail model; perhaps the CLIQ for introducing Motorola to the platform or the Droid for bringing the company some desperately needed, long overdue success. For the mo... (more)

posted by Pedro CubiasPedro Cubias 2710 days, 22 hours, 3 minutes ago

The battle for minds is well and truly on now, and if there was any doubt that Google and Adobe are cozying up together to take on Apple, let it now be extinguished. TechCrunch is reporting that the latest version of Android -- you know, the one with the 450 percent performance improvement and buttery smooth Flash playback -- will, upon updating, guide you to visit a selection of Flash-enabled websites. Microsoft's Kin One and Kin Two might not turn out to be the most auspicious devices for Tegra's debut in the smartphone arena, but NVIDIA seems to be learning from its mistakes. Admitting that the company committed too strongly to Microsoft with the first-gen iteration, Jen-Hsun Huang has now said that the second generation of Tegra will look to Android devices first and foremost. Google has a habit of giving future versions really tasty sounding codenames. Be it Cupcake, Éclair or Froyo, they all sound delicious. However, Froyo (that’s Android 2.2) is sounding more and more delicious by the day because when it hits my Nexus One, Android will be 450 percent faster than it is now. (more)

Android 2.2 Does USB Tethering, Wi-Fi Hot Spot

posted by Pedro CubiasPedro Cubias 2716 days, 8 hours, 49 minutes ago

The next version of Google's Android platform, codenamed Froyo, looks to kick Apple where it hurts. While we've already learned that v2.2 brings native Flash support, more memory, and apparently a huge 450-percent boost in overall performance (which 2.1 was supposed to offer but apparently did the opposite), the next spike in the groin is the platform's ability to not only provide native USB tethering support, but act as a portable Wi-Fi hotspot. HP Launching 'Hurricane' Tablet Running Palm's OS

posted by Pedro CubiasPedro Cubias 2718 days, 8 hours, 15 minutes ago
Tuesday, May 11, 2010 7:12:11 PM GMT
Late last month, Palm was purchased by HP. Not too long after, amid talk that HP had canned its Windows 7 Slate, speculation emerged regarding a HP Slate running Palm's WebOS operating system. Today speculation turns into rumors as Examiner.com reports HP is planning a WebOS tablet called the Hurricane. That's right, it looks like HP is ditching the "Slate" moniker in favor of something a little more dramatic for this device. Examiner cites an inside source at HP who says the HP Hurricane is scheduled f... (more)
