Is that a 3D prototype in HTC's EVO 4G LTE making of video? (update: nope)

posted by Pedro CubiasPedro Cubias 1876 days, 5 hours, 51 minutes ago

An HTC Evo 4G LTE with dual cameras could only mean one thing, right? It's unclear whether the 3D rig in the company's intro video is simply a design mock-up, or a functional prototype of a model to come, but there's definitely something of the sort floating around HTC's labs. The device in question looks identical to the Evo we saw at yesterday's Sprint launch event -- kickstand and all -- save for that unique dual-lens design. And if such a smartphone did come to fruition, what could we expect for a na... (more)

Ice Cream Sandwich leaks for Samsung Galaxy Note (update)

posted by Pedro CubiasPedro Cubias 1878 days, 3 hours, 49 minutes ago
Wednesday, April 04, 2012 9:06:24 AM GMT
For its part, Samsung has been none too coy about the upcoming Android 4.0 release for the Galaxy Note. So far, we know that it's set for a Q2 debut and will pack a new set of S Pen apps, but if you've longed to jump into the frozen goodness a bit early, today you can rejoice -- a leaked build of Ice Cream Sandwich for Samsung's fabulous phablet has reared its head in the forums of RootzWiki. Curiously, the file is available only as an EXE, so you'll want to exercise a bit of due diligence with this one.... (more)

Android 4.0 Coming to Sony's Xperia Handsets Soon

posted by Pedro CubiasPedro Cubias 1881 days, 10 hours, 10 minutes ago

Google's ice cream cart is slowly making its way through the Android neighborhood, dishing out servings of v4.0 sandwiches as fast as it can. As previously reported, Google blames the slow rollout on the sheer number of qualified hardware sets, but there's also the wireless carrier factor which determines if qualified phones even get the update at all. Jen-Hsun Huang, Nvidia’s chief executive, recently told the New York Times that the quad-core Tegra 3 SoC incorporates enough cheap commodity components that Android tablets will cost as little as $199 by this summer -- once the cost savings take hold, that is. Samsung ships five million Galaxy Notes in just five months

posted by Pedro CubiasPedro Cubias 1885 days, 3 hours, 45 minutes ago
Wednesday, March 28, 2012 9:10:18 AM GMT
Five is an important number for Samsung's Galaxy Note. It has a 5.3-inch screen and now, just five months since it debuted Samsung has announced it's shipped five million units (the one million mark was crossed right around the end of December). That's certainly long enough for you to decide if you're in love with its super-sized frame or the accompanying S-Pen stylus, but unfortunately it has not been quite enough time for the highly-anticipated Ice Cream Sandwich software update to be released. Hackers Loading Fake Facebook Apps in Chrome Web Store

posted by Pedro CubiasPedro Cubias 1886 days, 4 hours, 28 minutes ago

It's bad enough that consumers are downloading malware to their Android devices thanks to fake apps on Google Play. Now they have even more to worry about when browsing through the apps listed in Google's Chrome Web Store. It's no wonder the industry is trying to shift over to pure HTML5 -- it just doesn't seem safe to download and install anything anymore. (more)

How would you change the Galaxy Tab 7.0 Plus?

posted by Pedro CubiasPedro Cubias 1887 days, 4 hours, 26 minutes ago
Monday, March 26, 2012 8:29:17 AM GMT
We're big fans of Samsung's work and the prevailing feeling is that the Galaxy Tab 8.9 is the pinnacle of the family. The original 7-incher was too expensive and ran Android 2.2, so we were delighted to see the revamped edition running Honeycomb and costing a very reasonable $400 (it's even cheaper now). In our review, we couldn't find too much wrong with the device, in fact it's on a par with the 8.9, just a little bit smaller. (more)

OnLive and Rockstar release touch-controlled version of LA Noire

Way back in December, when OnLive first announced it would release a set of tablet apps for its cloud gaming service, we heard that Rockstar Games was also working on touch controls for LA Noire, making the console and PC game behave more like a native touchscreen app. And tonight, OnLive says those controls are finally available. If you load up LA Noire in an OnLive mobile app, you can play it by directly swiping across the screen rather than using virtual buttons or OnLive's wireless controller. (more)
