Need for Speed Most Wanted is quite an anticipated game for many racing fans, heralding a welcome return to Criterion's open-world style, with tons of stylish cars and modes to boot. Naturally, this is an opportunity for EA to pare down the franchise and package for mobile devices in the form of Need for Speed Most Wanted for Android and iOS. (more)

Double Fine's free-to-play iOS game Middle Manager of Justice accidentally launched on the App Store on September 5, as an incomplete, buggy version of the final game. Double Fine pulled it quickly, but not before potential players caught wind and downloaded it. Lead developer Kee Chi explains to Gamasutra how this all went down, and why it's not so bad in the end. posted by Pedro CubiasPedro Cubias 1818 days, 8 hours, 7 minutes ago
Saturday, August 25, 2012 7:26:43 AM GMT
After a short three days of deliberation, a California court has found that Samsung infringed on six of the seven Apple patents originally brought to the case. The result? Apple was awarded over $1 billion in damages. In most of the cases the jury found that the infringement was willful. Just about every Samsung device out there was found to infringe on Apple patents in some way. (more)

For those not up on their corporate legal dickery, Apple has been trying to stop Samsung from selling its Galaxy tablet, claiming that the device is a direct rip-off of the iPad. In a rather amusing backfire, a UK judge has ordered Apple to publish an ad claiming that Samsung did not copy anything. (more)

Apple Newton celebrates 20 years of eating up Martha

posted by Pedro CubiasPedro Cubias 1901 days, 7 hours, 19 minutes ago
Sunday, June 03, 2012 8:14:33 AM GMT
History hasn't been particularly kind to the Newton. Apple's early play at the mobile device market has largely been a source of ridicule, considered a low point in the company's catalog. For every suggestion that the device was ahead its time, there are countless "eat up Martha" jokes. It's not hard to see why -- in spite of tenacious commitment on the part of John Sculley and co., the PDA never really took off, a fact blamed, in part, to hardware and software limitations. To mark the 20th anniversary o... (more)

OS X Lion update accidentally outs user passwords in plain text, stumbles over FileVault

posted by Pedro CubiasPedro Cubias 1928 days, 9 hours, 2 minutes ago
Monday, May 07, 2012 6:31:28 AM GMT
Are you an avid user of OS X's FileVault encryption and running a recently updated version of Lion? It may be time to consider changing your passwords. According to security researcher David Emry, users who used FileVault prior to upgrading to 10.7.3 may be able to find their password in a system-wide debug log file, stored in plain text outside of the encrypted area. This puts the password at risk of being read by other users or enterprising cyber criminals, Emry explains, and even opens the door for ne... (more)

FBI reportedly pressing for backdoor access to Facebook, Google

Investigators at the FBI supposedly aren't happy that social networks like Facebook or Google+ don't have the same kind of facility for wiretaps that phones have had for decades. If claimed industry contacts for CNET are right, senior staff at the bureau have floated a proposed amendment to the 1994-era Communications Assistance for Law Enforcement Act (CALEA) that would require that (more)

Zynga already attempting to actively ruin Draw Something

Patent application highlights Apple's continued flirtation with haptic feedback

posted by Pedro CubiasPedro Cubias 1931 days, 7 hours, 53 minutes ago
Friday, May 04, 2012 7:40:15 AM GMT
We could all use a little feedback, right? Even Apple. The company has been toying around with the concept of haptic feedback for a while now, at least so far as patent applications are concerned. Another application filed in November or 2010 has surfaced. Of course, what we told you back in 2009 about the tenuous connection between an application and an actual product is as relevant as ever. Still, Apple's concept for a "tiered haptic system" which "may use one or more arrays of shape change elements to... (more)

Apple patents that moment when you text-bomb everyone with your new number

posted by Pedro CubiasPedro Cubias 1933 days, 9 hours, 23 minutes ago
Wednesday, May 02, 2012 6:10:35 AM GMT
So, you've changed your phone number to escape that stalker (look, we're sorry, we just wanted to sell you a pyramid scheme), but how do you let all 104 of your remaining friends know without manually texting 'em? The answer lies in Apple's newly granted patent, which aims to end the tedium by having your device recognize when your number switches and automatically send an updated contact entry to everyone in your address book. Of course, there's nothing in the claims to say it's discriminatory, so now w... (more)

Angry Birds Space is pretty successful guys

According to Rovio's own blog, Angry Birds Space has just hit 50 million downloads in a little over a month. They also state that the game broke all of their previous sales records (which are probably mobile wide, and set by Rovio themselves), and is obviously a rip-roaring success. In addition to some earned boasting, the blog also hints that "something even bigger is on the way." Angry Birds Space Seasons, perhaps? (more)

Quasar gives the iPad untabbed windows for ten dollars and a jailbreak (video)

posted by Pedro CubiasPedro Cubias 1934 days, 7 hours, 17 minutes ago

The iPad was made to do many things, but windowed multitasking wasn't one of them. Leave it to the Cydia Store to provide a new app that delivers individual, rotatable, scalable, untabbed windows. Quasar, from developer Pedro Franceschi, let's you do just that across multiple apps -- without relying on home button double-taps or tricky multi-finger gestures. The video below makes it seem pretty magical, so take a look and let us know what you think. (more)
