Apple's just announced Final Cut Pro X at NAB, and Chief Architect of Video Applications Randy Ubillos is demonstrating a beta release as we speak. The "rebuilt from ground up" video editing suite -- which now shares a similar look and feel with iMovie -- will be shipped with 64-bit support to finally make use of more than 4GB of RAM, as well as handling 4K clips on 8-core editing rigs (by way of the Grand Central Dispatch feature on OS X Snow Leopard). Apple reportedly hires top UK gaming PR execs from Nintendo and Activision

posted by Pedro CubiasPedro Cubias 2319 days, 21 hours, 39 minutes ago
Monday, April 11, 2011 10:22:14 AM GMT
As you may have noticed, Apple has been more serious about gaming lately that it was even during its Pippin-fueled haze in the mid-1990s, and it's now offering yet more evidence of just how invested it is with a pair of new hires. While the company isn't confirming the move just yet, MCV is reporting that Apple has snatched up Nintendo UK's former head of communications, Rob Saunders, who just left the big N last week and will apparently be focusing on PR for iOS apps at Apple. iPad 2 specs discerned, 900MHz dual-core ARM CPU and PowerVR SGX543MP2 GPU blow away graphical benchmarks

posted by adminadmin 2348 days, 3 hours, 1 minute ago
Monday, March 14, 2011 5:00:50 AM GMT
iFixit may have physically uncovered Apple's latest silicon, but it's the processor gurus that have discovered what's truly inside -- using software benchmarks, they've unearthed the speeds and feeds of the Apple A5. As you'll no doubt be aware having read our headline above, there actually isn't a 1GHz CPU at the helm, as AnandTech and IOSnoops report the dual-core ARM chip is dynamically clocked around 900MHz, likely in search of reduced power consumption. iFixit has an iPad 2, and they're ripping it apart (video)

It only took a few short hours for iFixit to get its hands on an iPad 2 (the WiFi variety), and of course, they immediately started to tear it apart. It's a necessarily delicate task, but they're making progress as we speak, and here are the first things that jump out to us: there is much less open space inside the iPad 2 than the original model, and the battery is very large. Beat-'em-ups are woefully under-represented on the App Store, but one of the genre's earliest classics has arrived to help fill the void. Enter the ... Double Dragon. Aksys Games has released Taito's seminal scrapper in updated form, compliments of developer Brizo Interactive, for an "introductory price" of $3.99 -- steep, yes, but set to increase to $7.99 at an unspecified point. Breaking: Apple Files Touchscreen Mouse Patent

There are plenty of reasons not to like Apple, but even the most emotional Apple-haters among us have to admit that some of the best ideas for future computing devices come out of Apple's labs. The USPTO just published a July 14, 2009 patent filing by Apple, which describes a complex mouse that could hint to a departure from the traditional one-button Apple mouse. (more)

This news comes to us right on the cusp of the game's January 6th release date, so there's very little time for you Cave Story fans to get hyped (but I think you'll manage just fine). (more)

Review: Back to the Future: The Game, Episode 1

posted by Pedro CubiasPedro Cubias 2422 days, 22 hours, 57 minutes ago

If I were the owner of a beloved franchise of films and wanted to expand that franchise into videogames, there are very few companies whom I would trust to do a license justice. And if comedy is a major component of the formula that makes fans of my properties, the list narrows to just one: Telltale Games. That's because Telltale seems to care about the licenses for which they publish games beyond the scope of their own titles and, for my money, there's nobody funnier in the industry right now. (more)
