E3: Ubisoft announces Killer Freaks From Outer Space

At Nintendo's developer roundtable this evening, Ubisoft announced a new game for Wii U by the name of Killer Freaks From Outer Space, currently scheduled for 2012. I know what you're thinking based on the name, but it actually seems potentially cool, at least in terms of subject matter. (more)

E3: GamersGate announces ad-supported FreeGames service

How will it work? Every user will be able to have "up to five games available for free on their account at any time with the capability to add additional games." What does that even mean? How do you have only up to five games and then add more than... actually screw it. It's probably something about paying extra, and you're not reading this because you want to pay extra. (more)

Killer Freaks From Outer Space trailer lands on Earth

posted by Pedro CubiasPedro Cubias 2356 days, 2 hours, 4 minutes ago
Thursday, June 09, 2011 7:18:00 AM GMT
They're here, they're juicy, and they've got pointy teeth. Apparently, they're Killer Freaks From Outer Space? That's what the trailer that Ubisoft released tonight says, at least. As revealed during Nintendo's second developer roundtable earlier this evening, Ubisoft Montpelier is making the sci-fi-esque title coming to Nintendo's Wii U at some point next year. But for now, well, we've got the first trailer available just after the break. (more)

Kid Icarus: Uprising multiplayer preview: Pitted against friends

For the second E3 in a row, Nintendo wowed E3-goers on stage with a presentation of Kid Icarus: Uprising. That's a nice way of saying the game still isn't out, in case you didn't pick up on that subtlety. This year, however, Nintendo did have playable demos in both single- and multiplayer. (more)

Rayman Origins is the most colorful thing on Earth

The sheer amount of delight generated by the latest Rayman Origins media may be unquantifiable. Seriously, Ubisoft, it's not fair. Try and save some delight for everyone else. View the screens below and watch the trailer after the break, and try not to smile. We submit that it cannot be done. (more)

Nintendo's Wii U Game Highlights Were Composed of Xbox 360 and PS3 Footage

posted by Pedro CubiasPedro Cubias 2356 days, 2 hours, 29 minutes ago
Thursday, June 09, 2011 6:52:21 AM GMT
All eyes were on Nintendo this week as the company finally unveiled the Wii 2, or Wii U as it is now known. With so many people watching, it’s only natural Nintendo would feel a certain amount of pressure to impress. So, along with a list of upcoming Wii U games, Nintendo showed a highlight reel containing exciting game footage. However, while it may not have been immediately clear at the time, that footage was actually from the Xbox 360 and PS3 versions of those games. (more)

TriMount turns your Wii, Kinect, and PlayStation sensors into a video game Eye of Sauron

posted by Pedro CubiasPedro Cubias 2356 days, 2 hours, 30 minutes ago

All right, we get it. You love motion gaming. You fell so hard for your Wii that you had to run out and buy the Kinect and PlayStation Move the minute they hit stores. And now you've got a lot of sensors, but not much in the way of space atop your flatscreen. DreamGear understands your decidedly first world pain, and is offering up the TriMount, a shrine to gesture-based gaming that has slots for your Wii sensor bar, Kinect sensor, PlayStation Eye, and a clamp for attaching it to your set. The $30 setup ... (more)

E3: Hands-on with Shinobido 2 for PlayStation Vita

My second attempt was a bit more successful. I made better use of the various control methods the Vita provided, making it easier to sneak around feudal Japan on my assigned killing mission. Touching the back of the Vita's touchpad instantly kicks the game into a first-person look mode, which lets you get a better feel for your surroundings to cover your back, or throw weapons. The front touchscreen lets you access a map and other guide features for your mission. (more)

Konami released a ton of screenshots that let you compare the old and HD remakes of the Metal Gear Solid games that comprise the Metal Gear Solid HD Collection. Check the gallery to see how the PSP version of Metal Gear Solid: Peace Walker and the PlayStation 2 versions of Metal Gear Solid 2: Sons of Liberty and Metal Gear Solid 3: Snake Eater match up with their PS3 HD counterparts. The collection is also coming to the Xbox 360, but just imagine it will look exactly the same for sanity's sake. (more)

Fruit Ninja Kinect preview: Chop 'til you stop

posted by Pedro CubiasPedro Cubias 2357 days, 1 hour, 21 minutes ago

First, flatten your hands into the standard "Karate chop" shape. Curl your arms at the elbows so that your fingers are now pointed forward. For a more visceral experience, set a piece of fruit -- a banana, perhaps -- on a surface in front of you. Use a cutting board if it helps complete the illusion. Alternately, if you're in the position to give a friend or significant other a sensual massage, have them lie down in front of you. (more)

Like so, so many E3 2011 games before it, Muramasa and Odin Sphere developer VanillaWare's just "officially announced" PlayStation 3 and Vita title, Dragon's Crown, was already outed. In fairness to the publisher UTV Ignition, the game only showed up in last night's Vita sizzle reel from the Sony press conference, and now we know much more. (more)

Wii U third-party sizzle reel composed of 360/PS3/PC footage

posted by Pedro CubiasPedro Cubias 2357 days, 1 hour, 22 minutes ago
Wednesday, June 08, 2011 7:59:17 AM GMT
When Nintendo showed off a reel of major third-party games currently in development for its newly announced console, the Wii U, the footage wasn't actually playing on Wii U hardware. Nintendo of America prez Reggie Fils-Aime casually admitted as much in a post-presser interview with GameTrailers, excusing it by saying, "We're talking a year away from when the system's gonna launch" -- a hard to argue point, considering developers probably need some time to, ya know, actually make games for it. Dance Central 2 preview: This is how we (both) do it

posted by Pedro CubiasPedro Cubias 2357 days, 1 hour, 23 minutes ago

Dance Central was undoubtedly one of the best and most successful launch titles for Microsoft's Kinect. Keeping that in mind, Dance Central 2 has some pretty big shoes to fill or, at the very least, another pair of shoes. The marquee new feature is definitely simultaneous two-player dance battles, which I was able to try out at Microsoft's expansive E3 booth. (more)

Luigi's Mansion 2 preview: Creepy, crawly

Attendees of Nintendo's E3 2011 press conference seemed surprised by the announcement of Luigi's Mansion 2, though probably not as surprised as they were by the fact that they actually missed the heck out of the original. It's not that the game's loveable, suction-powered Gamecube predecessor was particularly forgettable, it's just that we've seen quite a few years (and a number of entries in Nintendo's other first-party franchises) since the franchise's inception. E3: Gravity is really pretty, and I want it (hands-on)

In Sony's E3 press conference, after the unveiling of the PlayStation Vita, a video montage was shown of upcoming games. A cell-shaded action game caught my eye, but they said nothing about it in the presentation. I got a full hands-on right after the show, and now it ranks up with my most-wanted Vita titles. Gravity is being developed by Sony Studios Japan. It's an adventure game that has a mysterious story, great cell-shaded art, a manga/comic style story presentation, and a...cat that gives the hero... The sports publisher trotted out none other than Kobe Bryant at Sony's E3 press conference this evening to help demonstrate the Move integration that NBA 2K12 will include. (more)

Curiously absent from Sony's press conference earlier today was the announcement of a new title in Q Games' PixelJunk series. Such a thing does exist and expands the franchise into yet another classic genre of videogames, the sides-scrolling shooter.
