Atlus has offered little in the way of detail of what they're showing at E3, but they have announced that they will be showing the (previously unconfirmed) Trine 2, a sequel from developer Frozenbyte to the well received side-scrolling action platformer/puzzler, and Rock of Ages, a new game from Zeno Clash developer Ace Team. E3 2010 Preview: These Are the Big Shooters, We Think

posted by Pedro CubiasPedro Cubias 2690 days, 17 hours, 12 minutes ago
Friday, June 11, 2010 5:40:16 AM GMT
Shooters dominate the modern video game landscape, as evidenced by the sheer number of them being shown off at this year's E3. Here are console and PC shooters we think are going to be the biggest ones on show. They may be fresh in our minds, they may have been first unveiled at last year's show, it doesn't matter, if they're going to make an E3 appearance - hopefully in playable form - then we'll go take a look at them. This includes some of the biggest games of the year, like Halo: Reach and Bl (more)

Pre-E3: Harmonix/MTV partner with Fender on guitar/controller hybrid

posted by Pedro CubiasPedro Cubias 2690 days, 17 hours, 20 minutes ago
Friday, June 11, 2010 5:32:29 AM GMT
Fender, Harmonix, and MTV Games have partnered on an upcoming guitar/controller hybrid that's exactly what it sounds like -- a guitar controller with six real guitar strings that you can also use as a game controller. Modeled after the Fender Stratocaster, the controller features tech built into the neck and fingerboard of the guitar, making it able to read finger positions in real time. The peripheral will also transfer data for each of the guitar's six strings. Or, just plug the guitar into a standard ... (more)

How Heavenly Is Enslaved's E3 Trailer?

posted by Pedro CubiasPedro Cubias 2692 days, 15 hours, 42 minutes ago

Ninja Theory's lush post-apocalyptic game Enslaved: Odyssey to the West is just one of the many action-adventure offerings we're looking forward to at this year's E3. This new look at the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 game further cements that. (more)

Pre-E3: Atlus and Frozenbyte to partner on digital title

posted by Pedro CubiasPedro Cubias 2692 days, 15 hours, 44 minutes ago
Wednesday, June 09, 2010 7:08:04 AM GMT
Atlus is teaming up with Frozenbyte, developers of physics-based surprise hit Trine, in a publishing deal on a yet-to-be-announced game, which will be released digitally in 2011. What is it? We have no idea! Following Trine, it's probably something pretty good. It seems that Frozenbyte thinks it's pretty good (more)

Sony on its reason for so many pre-E3 reveals

posted by Pedro CubiasPedro Cubias 2692 days, 15 hours, 46 minutes ago
Wednesday, June 09, 2010 7:06:03 AM GMT
It seems that everyone is "blowing their load" before E3, and it's starting to get to me this week. Things that we thought were going to be announced next week are already out in the open. Hell, look at Sony. We already know a ton of what it has in store, including Killzone 3, LittleBigPlanet 2, inFamous 2, God of War: Ghost of Sparta, and maybe the rumored MotorStorm 3. And then there's the Move and all that jazz. (more)

Here's an obligatory 'Crysis 2 will be at E3' teaser

posted by Pedro CubiasPedro Cubias 2693 days, 16 hours, 30 minutes ago
Tuesday, June 08, 2010 6:22:42 AM GMT
I get the feeling I'm going to be writing a bunch more of these "Here's a halfhearted look at this game you're likely dying to see more of, but too bad, you'll need to come back next week for the real deal" posts for the duration of this week. The above teaser for Crysis 2 is a stellar example of this unavoidable pattern. It kind of shows one of the game's enemies, The Pinger, although you can't exactly make out much in the way of details. To me, the thing almost looks like a Metal Gear. (more)

FEAR 3 E3 trailer for thee

posted by Pedro CubiasPedro Cubias 2693 days, 16 hours, 46 minutes ago
Tuesday, June 08, 2010 6:06:06 AM GMT
The breadth of F.E.A.R. 3 trailers we've been subjected to thus far have been hit or miss. We say this because with this latest trailer, Warner Bros. Interactive seems to have finally divined a winning formula. The E3 trailer above is everything we'd hope for in a trailer: There's ample quantities of dudes getting shot in slow-mo, along with equal amounts of bad boy Paxton Fettel 'sploding chumps with his mind. What more could you want? (more)

Is Xbox 360 packaging getting a visual refresh?

posted by Pedro CubiasPedro Cubias 2694 days, 15 hours, 43 minutes ago
Monday, June 07, 2010 7:09:45 AM GMT
With Microsoft set to reveal Project Natal and the "future" of the Xbox 360 at E3, it may also be looking to refresh its visual branding in the retail space. A number of retailers and publishers are using box art imagery that bares a markedly different "top strip," as seen above. The new box art can be spotted on a number of titles listed at GameStop.com, including Kane & Lynch 2, Mafia II, as well as a number of others. While retailers are known for creating mock box art in-house for promotional pu... (more)

Mysterious third-person shooter NANO detailed

posted by Pedro CubiasPedro Cubias 2694 days, 15 hours, 44 minutes ago
Monday, June 07, 2010 7:08:46 AM GMT
Ever hear of a third-person action title named NANO? Yeah, neither have we. Until now. Reader EGGY Beggy sent us details from a recent online survey he took which detailed the Xbox 360, PlayStation, and PC title. The year is 2044, and NANO follows the story of Hugo Glass, a wealthy man who uses his riches to travel and explore the world. After defending a village in Thailand against corruption, Glass finds himself in jail, and he eventually finds himself wrapped in a "corporate conspiracy," and accused ... (more)

Kotaku's Pre-E3 Party - It's On Broadway

posted by Pedro CubiasPedro Cubias 2695 days, 13 hours, 39 minutes ago

Aperture Science may have canceled its E3 party plans, but Kotaku's are officially locked in. As we tend to do the Sunday before E3, Kotaku is having a party. This one will be bigger than ever... and you're invited. We're changing locations this year, hopefully leaving the long lines of the Golden Gopher behind and packing more friends into the lovely Broadway Bar in downtown Los Angeles. The festivities, which include boozing and schmoozing, begin at 9 p.m. on Sunday, June 13 (more)

Rumor: Apocalyptic MotorStorm 3 images appear

posted by Pedro CubiasPedro Cubias 2695 days, 13 hours, 45 minutes ago
Sunday, June 06, 2010 9:07:12 AM GMT
It hasn't officially been revealed, but you know it and I know -- MotorStorm 3 exists. Today, French PlayStation 3 site PS3 Gen has what appears to be the first images of the game, off-screen photos taken from a a possible demo. The images show an post-apocalyptic San Francisco, with buildings crumbling, and fires raging in the distance. This is start contrast to previous MotorStorm titles which, well… didn't have any of this stuff going on. (more)

Rumor: Harmonix working on dancing game for Natal

posted by Pedro CubiasPedro Cubias 2697 days, 14 hours, 17 minutes ago
Friday, June 04, 2010 8:35:32 AM GMT
Rock Band 3's already been confirmed as Harmonix's next project, but is it the only one? Probably not, and if Game Informer's sources are correct, the developer may also be working on a Natal-based dancing game. True or not, you don't need to like the idea, but it might be the best move for the developer. I can't explain the worldwide popularity of Ubisoft's Just Dance, but its success has proven one thing: people want to dance. Harmonix recently applied for licenses for a number of danceable tracks, in... (more)

Namco: Industry must choose: E3 or Gamescom

posted by Pedro CubiasPedro Cubias 2697 days, 14 hours, 33 minutes ago
Friday, June 04, 2010 8:19:30 AM GMT
As far as the games press goes, we really can't choose. We need to be there or we miss out. But the industry can, technically, and especially when two events are so close together. E3 is about a week away, but Gamescom is in August. To make matters worse, Tokyo Game Show is in September. Namco Bandai Partners VP, Olivier Comte, says that E3's return to the old days is bringing the industry back, but feels that they're going to have to choose between the two events. (more)

PS3 gets 3D updates on June 10th in Japan

posted by Pedro CubiasPedro Cubias 2699 days, 14 hours, 53 minutes ago
Wednesday, June 02, 2010 7:59:29 AM GMT
If you've been dying to play 3D-enabled PS3 games, know that an update to add this functionality is probably coming soon. For Japan, we know that the update will come on June 10th, and seeing as how they usually get feature updates at about the same time we do, I think it's safe to assume we'll see 3D in June. I mean, E3 is in two weeks. (more)

Valve cancels Portal 2 press event at E3 and it's amazing

posted by Pedro CubiasPedro Cubias 2699 days, 15 hours ago
Wednesday, June 02, 2010 7:52:55 AM GMT
I'm deep in E3 planning, so when any one event gets canceled or shuffled, I'm not entirely pleased. But Valve, it can do whatever it wants. See, it had a Portal 2 press conference event taking place on Monday, June 14. Now it's not happening; it's been canceled. Valve says that it has replaced the event with a "surprise," but doesn't go into any details. I'll find out, I'm sure -- I'm already penciled in to see Portal 2 (and whatever else they'd like to show me -- begin speculation now) behind-closed-do... (more)

Ubisoft to show new Driver title at E3

posted by Pedro CubiasPedro Cubias 2704 days, 13 hours, 57 minutes ago

So, this is a little bit weird. Ubisoft is working on a new game in the Driver series, which is as much of a surprise to me as it probably is to you. But rather than make a lot of pomp and circumstance around it at their E3 press conference (presented by Joel McHale, seriously), they make mention of it in a press release announcing some of the titles we'll be able to see at their booth. Huh? (more)

E3? Road Trip!

posted by Pedro CubiasPedro Cubias 2706 days, 14 hours, 47 minutes ago

No, it's not us. We fly. This is Infinite Lives: The Road to E3, a small-time documentary about four normal dudes who drive across American to attend E3, the industry's biggest show of the year. It can get a little grating at times, but at others, it looks to be a surprisingly charming road trip for nerds, helping bridge the gap between people who can only experience E3 via their computers and those who do get to attend, but are too busy and tired to enjoy i (more)
