Aussie console gamers overcharged for Battlefield Premium

posted by Pedro CubiasPedro Cubias 1986 days, 18 hours, 14 minutes ago
Thursday, June 14, 2012 9:35:49 AM GMT
Electronic Arts has done what Electronic Arts does best and caused an outrage after trying to make more money than it should. Australian users were furious to see Battlefield Premium listed for $49.99 AU across all platforms, with EA failing to warn them that the price only applied to the PC version. (more)

E3: FIFA 13 subtly iterating on FIFA 12

posted by Pedro CubiasPedro Cubias 1992 days, 21 hours, 5 minutes ago

The last FIFA game was pretty well received. Accordingly, much of what I saw for FIFA 13 seemed to be more of a refinement of FIFA 12 than a complete overhaul, although I’m sure this is what most players are expecting. (more)

This Crysis 3 concept art is pretty, of course

Saying that anything related to a Crysis game "looks good" is a bit like saying the Sun is somewhat hot, or that the Joystiq staff is somewhat attractive – true, obviously, but a bit of an understatement. (more)

Crytek hopes to combat piracy better with Crysis 3

posted by Pedro CubiasPedro Cubias 2029 days, 21 hours, 18 minutes ago

"It’s unfortunate that you don’t win any awards for most downloaded game," said senior creative director Rasmus Højengaard. "But yeah, obviously it’s something we’d like to address. Certainly people apparently really want to play our games, they just don’t wanna buy them. So we’ll do what we can, but whatever that’s gonna be is hard to say yet." (more)

Crysis 3 has been in development for the last 14 months and is set to be "one of the most ambitious games that Crytek has ever done," according to Crytek's Director of Creative Development, Rasmus Hoejengaard. Dead Space dev: Gears of War has the worst writing

posted by Pedro CubiasPedro Cubias 2040 days, 21 hours, 6 minutes ago
Saturday, April 21, 2012 6:43:57 AM GMT
It's very rare that you'll get a representative from one studio slam another developer's game, but Dead Space story producer Chuck Beaver has some words to say about Gears of War's narrative efforts, and it ain't pretty. In fact, he says it's "literally the worst writing" in the industry. Ouch! (more)

Another high-profile, A-list game means on thing: Merchandising. It was inevitable, with Mass Effect's being one the biggest games of the year, that we'd see some tie-in products. Some work well, while others clearly do not. (more)

Better Business Bureau says EA lied about Mass Effect 3

posted by Pedro CubiasPedro Cubias 2048 days, 19 hours, 57 minutes ago

A few weeks back, when the backlash over Mass Effect 3 was at its height, a complaint had been filed with the Federal Trade Commission and the Better Business Bureau. The complaints alleged that Electronic Arts lied about Mass Effect 3 when it said player choices would affect the outcome. Well ... the Better Business Bureau agrees. (more)

A list of achievements for yet to be announced downloadable content for Kingdoms of Amalur: Reckoning has appeared on Xbox 360 Achievements. The five achievements look similar in nature to those found in the recently released The Legend of Dead Kel, including a "kill 50 of these please" achievement, a hidden secret, and a few quest completion achievements. Review: Amalur: Reckoning - The Legend of Dead Kel

posted by Pedro CubiasPedro Cubias 2065 days, 19 hours, 5 minutes ago
Tuesday, March 27, 2012 8:45:06 AM GMT
One might wonder if a game like Kingdoms of Amalur: Reckoning really needs a downloadable content expansion along the lines of "The Legend of Dead Kel," given the enormous amount of quests and content already available in the core game. Quest and area exploration fatigue can start to kick in by the time you enter Klurikon, after all, and it's likely you still have quite a few side-quests in your journal that you never bothered to complete. Preview: Reinventing the MMO with The Secret World

posted by Pedro CubiasPedro Cubias 2076 days, 20 hours, 52 minutes ago

The MMO space has been steadily filling up since people realized just how much money Blizzard is actually making. Many have tried to break into that space, but most have failed. Funcom has a pretty consistent history of bringing solid titles to market -- nothing necessarily groundbreaking, but they work. (more)

FIFA Street review: When players collide

posted by Pedro CubiasPedro Cubias 2076 days, 20 hours, 53 minutes ago

There's no way FIFA Street could have merely been an additional mode in FIFA Soccer 12. The latter takes to the conventional styles of soccer, where setting up plays and well-timed crosses are the keys to victory. The former focuses on "the beautiful game," where one player juggles a ball around with blinding grace, tricking an opponent into moving one direction while taking the ball in the other. (more)

The Secret World: An unconventional, modern MMO

posted by Pedro CubiasPedro Cubias 2096 days, 17 hours, 53 minutes ago

The Secret World is coming along quite nicely. We saw Funcom's unconventional modern day, classless, action driven MMO at their offices late last year, but I've had the pleasure of checking in on their progress last week. They're about to wrap up on about a decade of work, putting the final touches on this early summer release, and it's clear that they're excited for the world to start playing their game. (more)

Sometimes, the best way to become a blockbuster videogame is to act like you already are one. That seems to be Kingdoms of Amalur: Reckoning's modus operandi, and the gambit is paying off. Despite the big names attached to the project, very few people paid attention to the game until recently, when it started confidently presenting itself as a game that everybody wants. (more)

EA explains what SSX's online pass will entail

posted by Pedro CubiasPedro Cubias 2121 days, 19 hours, 43 minutes ago

Though the inclusion of an online pass in a game with Electronic Arts' name attached to it does not come as a shock, word that SSX will follow the trend got the usual people riled up. I was prepared to perform the obligatory shrug and go about my day, but the specifics of what content is restricted interests me. (more)

Yep: Origin required for all PC versions of Mass Effect 3

posted by Pedro CubiasPedro Cubias 2137 days, 16 hours, 43 minutes ago

Physical and digital PC versions of Mass Effect 3 alike will require Electronic Arts' Origin, according to developer BioWare. In slightly less annoying news, unlimited game installs are allowed and access to the single-player campaign requires a one-time authorization rather than a constant Internet connection. (more)
