Intense screenshots of Alice: Madness Returns

posted by Pedro CubiasPedro Cubias 2394 days, 13 hours, 25 minutes ago
Friday, May 27, 2011 8:19:27 AM GMT
One of the major selling points for Alice: Madness Returns is the game's twisted nature, and how the art style meshes nicely with the insanity. Take, for instance, these screenshots. When you enter "Hysteria!" mode, Alice goes all bloody eyed and the world turns black, white, and red, which is what these images depict. I think the original blood-vomiting teaser for Madness Returns has finally been one-upped. (more)

Spike to live stream EA's E3 event

Good! That means that I don't have to go and report on it. You can just watch it yourself. I've got enough stuff to do that week. The Orpheum Theater is L.A. is lovely, but it's always a bitch to get out there and leave E3. Now I don't have to deal with ass-y WiFi. (more)

Madden NFL 12 out on August 30th instead of in mid-August

posted by Pedro CubiasPedro Cubias 2437 days, 13 hours, 57 minutes ago
Thursday, April 14, 2011 7:46:51 AM GMT
From now on, NFL fans will have to wait a bit longer than usual to get their virtual football fix. EA's Madden series traditionally launches in the second week of August, about a month before the NFL season begins. But EA Sports president Peter Moore announced yesterday that Madden NFL 12 will be released on August 30, 2011, which is three weeks after the usual launch window. (more)

EA scores franchise-best week-1 sales with Tiger Woods 12

posted by Pedro CubiasPedro Cubias 2438 days, 15 hours, 5 minutes ago
Wednesday, April 13, 2011 6:39:01 AM GMT
It appears that EA Sports didn't need to do all that much with its long-running Tiger Woods PGA Tour series in order to raise its flagging sales numbers. Oh, y'know, nothing aside from the biggest possible "get" for the franchise: bringing The Masters, one of the most storied tournaments in all of sports, to digital life. EA announced today that it sold approximately 225,000 copies of Tiger Woods PGA Tour 12: The Masters during the game's first week of availability (March 29 - April 5). That amounts to a... (more)

Review: Bulletstorm

posted by adminadmin 2487 days, 15 hours, 10 minutes ago
Wednesday, February 23, 2011 6:34:31 AM GMT
Sure, you can run through its eight-hour campaign, relying on your default military assault rifle to blast through inexhaustible crowds of the game’s punk mutants and bloodthirsty soldiers. As your typical first-person shooting gallery, Bulletstorm holds its own, with a wealth of scripted “oh, shit!” moments and solid base mechanics that just feel right. So if you want to dash from firefight to firefight, mindlessly unloading clips at anything that moves, go for it. You’ll probably have a blast. (more)

Bulletstorm PC requires persistent Internet (update)

posted by Pedro CubiasPedro Cubias 2510 days, 14 hours, 35 minutes ago
Monday, January 31, 2011 7:08:41 AM GMT
Fans of PC DRM have something to celebrate today, with news that Bulletstorm will demand a constant online connection in order to be played. More like Bullshitstorm, right guys? It seems Electronic Arts is going to "pull an Ubisoft" while "protecting" People Can Fly's ludicrous shooter from common thieves. The news comes from EA's own product disclosure page, where it states, "PERSISTENT INTERNET CONNECTION AND ACCEPTANCE OF END USER LICENSE AGREEMENT REQUIRED TO PLAY." (more)

Jimpressions: Crysis 2 multiplayer demo

posted by Pedro CubiasPedro Cubias 2515 days, 12 hours, 19 minutes ago
Wednesday, January 26, 2011 9:24:45 AM GMT
Crysis 2's multiplayer demo is being slated up and down the Internet, and while I don't think it's quite as awful as some people have been saying, I can't say it's grabbed my attention. It's not a bad multiplayer, but so far it feels like a sci-fi version of Call of Duty, but with poor level design (let's give them a super jump and put pitfalls right by spawn points!) and loose spray n' pray combat in which people just run around each other and hope the other falls down. Behold the Portal 2 box art: 2 portals, 2 robots, 2 Cubes

posted by Pedro CubiasPedro Cubias 2536 days, 11 hours, 41 minutes ago

I'm eagerly anticipating the spring release of Portal 2, just like most of you, and Valve has sent out something to tide us over for the next few months: the game's box art. The cover's designers certainly took less of a minimalistic approach than the artists of the cover of the original Portal, but I like it -- it does a great job of illustrating Portal 2's, uh, two-ness. Battlefield: Bad Company 2 Vietnam review: Enjoyable quagmire

posted by Pedro CubiasPedro Cubias 2543 days, 13 hours, 10 minutes ago
Wednesday, December 29, 2010 8:34:09 AM GMT
Battlefield: Bad Company 2 Vietnam occupies a very strange place. It's a great addition to the Battlefield franchise, no doubt, but whether it was originally intended as a standalone game à la Battlefield 1943, or as an "expansion" to Battlefield Bad Company 2, is a question that lingers. Of course, it's hard to focus on such questions while you barbecue the enemy with a flamethrower. (more)

Speaking exclusively to IGN, Electronic Arts has given Mass Effect 2 on PlayStation 3 a solid release date of January 21 18 in North America and January 21 in Europe (that's in twenty eleven, folks). As previously revealed, BioWare is including a gaggle of bonus content with the Blu-ray version, not to mention a brand new "interactive comic" that fills players in on the story of Mass Effect 1. Shift 2 Unleashed loses 'Need for Speed' and adds Hot Pursuit's Autolog

posted by Pedro CubiasPedro Cubias 2585 days, 12 hours, 4 minutes ago

What better day to announce a new entry in a long-standing franchise than the release date for what is, arguably, the best installment in the series to date. Today, on Need for Speed Hot Pursuit's big day, EA has stolen some of that thunder by announcing Shift 2 Unleashed, the sequel to last year's simulation-style installment. (more)

PS3 goes the PSP route to thwart jailbreakers: Medal of Honor requires latest firmware

posted by Pedro CubiasPedro Cubias 2619 days, 15 hours, 15 minutes ago
Thursday, October 14, 2010 6:29:19 AM GMT
It's not quite a common practice just yet, but it looks like the PlayStation 3 could be following in the PSP's footsteps in order to get around folks jailbreaking the device. As MCV reports, anyone buying Electronic Arts' new "Medal of Honor" game will first have to update their PS3 to the latest 3.50 firmware (conveniently provided on the disc) before playing -- that firmware also, of course, has the convenient side effect of blocking the ability to jailbreak the console. No word on any other games tha... (more)
