Hard to say why Google chose to roll its Movies app out first to 3G-packed tablets sporting Android 3.1 (a smaller testbed, perhaps?), but it looks as if it won't matter for much longer. We've received a number of tips this evening suggesting that Google Movies can now be downloaded (more)

Apple has been discussing the features of OS X Lion for quite some time. However, a new, previously unmentioned feature has been uncovered by the folks over at MacRumors, and it should please those who don’t want to wait for their computer’s OS to fully boot before checking email or surfing the web. The "Restart to Safari" option appears on the user lock screen, giving you the choice to either log into your user account, or restart to Safari for instant access to the web. (more)

ASUS to ship 300,000 Eee Pad Transformers in June, surpass all non-iPad tablet sales

posted by Pedro CubiasPedro Cubias 2352 days, 18 hours, 39 minutes ago

ASUS has had a hard time meeting demand for its Eee Pad Transformer since the device's launch earlier this year, but we clearly don't have component shortages to blame. Jerry Shen, the Taiwanese company's CEO, says that he expects to sell 300,000 of the tablets this month, following shipments totaling 400,000 in April and May. That figure puts the device in the number two spot for worldwide tablet shipments, just behind the prevailing iPad 2. (more)

Gmail is one of our favorite webmail services. Its effective junk filtering and mail threading make it a standout choice. Now, one Gmail fan can claim that Gmail helped recover his stolen car. Avrohom Eliezer Friedman awoke one Tuesday morning to discover that his car had been stolen. He told ZDNet, “the car wasn’t worth much - but the plate is priceless.” (more)

Google’s search results have been "frozen" from anything but algorithmic changes due to multiple government investigations -- and possible investigations -- numerous sources have told LAUNCH. Google search results have always been primarily algorithmic. However, it has long been known inside the industry that some human "massaging" or "grooming" has occurred after the algorithm generated results. Sites that were good actors from Google’s perspective (read: Wikipedia, respected blogs, news sources) wer... (more)

Pocketables reports modder Graffix0214 has discovered that bumping the pixel density (ppi) from 160 to higher than 170 will transform your rooted Honeycomb tablet into a Gingerbread tablet. We're just getting into the swing of spring, flowers blooming and skeeters biting, but already it's been a great year for Samsung -- if we ignore the whole lawsuit thing. Just a few weeks ago the company delivered to us our highest scoring Android phone yet, the Galaxy S II and, while that handset has not appeared on American shores, we were graced with the Droid Charge, which offers LTE speed, strong battery life, and an on-contract price that slightly exceeds its design. Have you tried Sprint's new Google Voice integration? We know a lot of our readers have -- and many of them have had problems, writing in to us to express their displeasure. We started investigating and found a hoard of complaints, and the deeper we looked, the more issues we found. To make matters worse, Sprint has instructed its representatives to refer all Google Voice-related questions to the Google Voice Forum, which for reasons that frustrate us as much as you, Google itself seems to have forgotten... Google funds project to teach computers regret, sadly won't lead to apologetic machines

We've seen a rather creepy array of robots programmed to mimic human emotions, but teaching a machine to feel regret? Now, that's a new one. With funding from Google, a team of Tel Aviv University researchers is working on an algorithm to teach computers to learn from their experiences, thus reducing instances of "virtual regret." (more)

Verizon may have left it out from the get-go, but it looks as if eager HTC Thunderbolt owners needn't wait another day to test out a video-enabled version of Skype. For those outside of The Loop, there was quite the back-and-forth going during the early days, with Verizon announcing at the 11th hour that its flagship LTE phone would be shipped sans Skype. It's still unavailable in the bona firde Android Market, but a build has appeared from the ether and seems to be humming along just fine here at Engadg... (more)

With the launch of Sony Ericsson's Android-powered "PlayStation Phone," the Xperia Play, supposedly right around the corner, Google has pulled the plug on a prominent PSOne emulator for its mobile OS. According to its author, "zodttd," PSX4Droid was removed from the Android Market without warning due to a "Content Policy violation," though he suspects it has more to do with Sony's imminent smart phone offering.
