iPhone HD Images Leaked? And Coming June 22?

posted by Pedro CubiasPedro Cubias 2717 days, 15 hours, 32 minutes ago
Friday, April 16, 2010 8:04:25 AM GMT
It's no secret that Apple loves coming up with a new iPhone every year to snatch up more of the smartphone market. And with its past history of summer releases, it's a sure thing that new hardware will be timed with the release of iPhone OS 4.0. With the push to more aluminum unibody-like construction on the iPad, it's only natural to assuming that the next iPhone, rumored to be called the iPhone HD, to also pack some metal with it. Today, this showed up on MacRumors. (more)

New iPhone in June, claims SaskTel CEO

posted by Pedro CubiasPedro Cubias 2717 days, 15 hours, 33 minutes ago
Friday, April 16, 2010 8:03:23 AM GMT
Saskatchewan-based SaskTel isn't the biggest Canadian carrier out there -- it's very regional, along the lines of Cincinnati Bell for the US, in terms of subscribers -- but it's definitely a legit company, and its CEO Robert Watson has casually divulged some potentially major news to the Leader-Post. In a discussion on its 3G network set to launch July 1st, he had this to say:... (more)

iPhone OS 4 jailbreak released to developers, not you

posted by Pedro CubiasPedro Cubias 2717 days, 15 hours, 35 minutes ago
Friday, April 16, 2010 8:01:28 AM GMT
Be clear on this: if you're not a jailbreak app developer then the redsn0w 0.9.5 beta release is not for you. The iPhone OS 4 jailbreak previously hinted at is for real and it's for devs only so that they can prep their wares for the summer update. Don't worry, it doesn't reveal anything new to Apple and no, it won't work on the iPad -- it's Mac OSX only, iPhone 3G only, and iPhone 4.0 beta 1 only for now. But hey, it's early days, at least you know it's out there and that people smarter than you are ten... (more)

PhoneGap framework fine for App Store development, sez Apple

posted by Pedro CubiasPedro Cubias 2718 days, 15 hours, 25 minutes ago
Thursday, April 15, 2010 8:10:36 AM GMT
Now, we've all been concerned about recent updates to the iPhone dev agreement -- you haven't been sleeping and your parents are, quite frankly, worried for your sanity. And it's a heady subject: "what is the fate of PhoneGap in the wake of the iPhone OS 4 beta SDK?" Well, worry no more, little one -- it seems that Jesse Macfadyen, a contributor to the project, pinged Apple to make sure that users of the mobile development platform wouldn't find their apps rejected simply for using the tool. Steve Jobs on Support for iPhone 2G: ''Sorry, No.''

Are you still running an original iPhone with its aluminum casing? It's been a worthy companion over the years, hasn't it? Even without 3G or GPS or compass, it still runs nearly everything that the latest iPhone 3GS does – but that's about to come to an end. (more)

In a Digital Development Management brochure (warning: PDF link), the studio is advertised as having one "Original IP with major publisher" in development and one "Licensed IP -- TBA," (more)

Apple takes aim at Adobe... or Android?

The already strict requirements that must be met for an application to be published on Apple's App Store are set to take a turn for the worse, as Apple's NDA-protected license agreement has now updated an already annoying existing clause, Section 3.3.1, to make it even more offensive. (more)

Adobe says iPhone / iPad adoption and 'alternative technologies' (cough, HTML5) could harm its business

Adobe might continue to crow about Flash and its importance on both the desktop and mobile devices, but there's no lying to investors, and the company is pretty blunt about the threat of the iPhone and iPad in the end-of-quarter Form 10-Q it just filed with the Securities and Exchange Commission: it flatly says that "to the extent new releases of operating systems or other third-party products, platforms or devices, such as the Apple iPhone or iPad, make it more difficult for our products to perform, and... Evening Reading: Social Gaming on the iPhone

posted by Pedro CubiasPedro Cubias 2724 days, 15 hours, 18 minutes ago

So, Apple is going to be adding a social gaming network (a la Xbox Live and PlayStation Network) to the iPhone, iPod Touch, and iPad later this year. There were already 3rd-party networks on the platform, but the lack of a unified experience was damaging to the user. Just think about going back to the early days of console-multiplayer, where every game ran its own friend lists and architecture. (more)

Apple's iPhone, as slick as it may be, has always lagged behind the competition when it came to basic OS features such as copy & paste and multitasking. With copy & paste taken care of in iPhone OS 3.0, Apple announced today plans to tackle the latter feature with iPhone OS 4.0. Yes, multitasking will finally be here in the new software update due to hit this summer. (more)

iPhone OS 4.0: Hopes and Predictions

Bizarrely timed and impressively unleaked, iPhone OS 4.0 is coming—at least as an announcement—this Thursday. So what's it going to change, really? Here's what we think. And because it's about eight times as fun, what we hope. Predictions These are the changes that seem most likely, or that've been rumored previously. Since we don't know anything for sure at this point, these are conservative. • Multitasking: This could be anything from strictly managed multitasking for simple apps, to faux multitaskin... (more)

Even if you haven't bought one, it's probably pretty clear that the iPad has officially launched. During the week leading up to iPad Day, however, much of our top Apple news involved the iPhone, how it's doing against Android, and whether a Verizon iPhone is coming this year. A Snow Leopard update gave some love to our sometimes-neglected Macs, too. Read on if you need a break from iPad mania: Report: Verizon iPhone finally coming; will you switch? Holy m-commerce, Batman! According to eBay CEO John Donahoe, shoppers have already spent about $400 million on the popular commerce site using the company’s free iPhone application. Ok, the shopping part of eBay’s business brought in $1.4 billion in revenue just last quarter, but who would have predicted around half a billion dollar in sales a year would be recorded through the eBay iPhone app when it debuted on the App Store? The number pales in comparison with eBay’s total sales ($59.7 billion last y... (more)

Verizon: iDon’t Not Want The iPhone

Late last night, I spent 1,500 words explaining why Verizon’s Droid, like the dozens of competitors before it, is not the ever-sought-after “iPhone killer.” I really should have just waited until this morning and listened to Verizon’s earnings call. After all, Verizon CEO Ivan Seidenberg more or less said it himself. When asked about a possible partnership with Apple in the future with the iPhone, Seidenberg had this to say, “We obviously would be interested at any point in the future that they would be... (more)
