Monsoon Vulkano Blast launches DVR-to-mobile feature for iPhone, iPad and Android

posted by Pedro CubiasPedro Cubias 2197 days, 19 hours, 43 minutes ago
Tuesday, June 21, 2011 7:43:50 AM GMT
Monsoon Multimedia is pushing its Vulkano line of set-top boxes to the forefront once again by offering a feature not found on competition from Sling, TiVo or Roku, by adding the ability to make DVR recordings directly to iPad, iPhone or Android devices. While users can still watch TV from anywhere in the world using the Vulkano, the new DVR-to-mobile feature is restricted to WiFi and will only work with the new Blast model. (more)

TiVo Android and iPhone apps in the works, Season Passes soon at your fingertips

posted by Pedro CubiasPedro Cubias 2198 days, 18 hours, 47 minutes ago
Monday, June 20, 2011 8:39:42 AM GMT
Sure, it's technically been possible to manage one's TiVo via the mobile web for a half-decade now, but earlier methods were neither intuitive nor enthralling. Earlier this year, the company released its iPad app -- a diddy that showcases functions like remote control features, ToDo List prioritizing and Season Pass management. After hinting at a number of apps for smaller-screen devices (boasting all manners of operating systems), the latest print edition of CEPro has delivered solid intel that the afor... (more)

Apple starts selling unlocked iPhone 4 for $649

posted by Pedro CubiasPedro Cubias 2204 days, 18 hours, 18 minutes ago
Tuesday, June 14, 2011 9:08:29 AM GMT
Not that it'll do you much good in the US -- an unlocked iPhone 4 will still only work on AT&T's 3G bands -- but Apple has just started selling its prized smartphone without any carrier partiality on its US online store. The big attraction is, of course, being able to take the phone abroad and switch MicroSIMs to your heart's content, an experience that most other nations are already well accustomed to. Additionally, though the $649 (16GB) and $749 (32GB) levies may seem rather steep for American buy... (more)

Tecmo Bowl Throwback dives over the pile onto iOS

posted by Pedro CubiasPedro Cubias 2222 days, 19 hours, 17 minutes ago
Friday, May 27, 2011 8:09:31 AM GMT
Tecmo Bowl Throwback, last year's retro-revival for PSN and XBLA, has been ported to iOS and was released today. iTunes lists the features of the $7.99 port as largely similar to the console game: 30 teams in all, two of which are All-Star squads with customizable rosters, plus Preseason, Season and All-Star game modes. The first two are standard football fare; All-Star mode allows players to pit the game's two All-Star teams against each other. (more)

Pioneer AppRadio hands-on (updated with video!)

posted by Pedro CubiasPedro Cubias 2223 days, 20 hours, 48 minutes ago
Thursday, May 26, 2011 6:39:03 AM GMT
We got a chance to experience Pioneer's iOS-connected in-dash AppRadio in action this afternoon, and even got to see the thing running in a real-deal automobile. So did it meet our expectations? Well, to be perfectly honest, we didn't know what to expect, but for what it promises, which is bringing the convenience and connectivity of iOS apps to your car, we suppose it does a fine job -- even if it only supports a handful apps at the moment. More after the break. (more)

Apple Replaces Paper Signs with iPad 2s

posted by Pedro CubiasPedro Cubias 2225 days, 19 hours, 59 minutes ago
Tuesday, May 24, 2011 7:27:31 AM GMT
If you’ve ever been to an Apple store, you’ll likely be familiar with the setup inside. The store is organised by product, with each having its own dedicated section; the iPods, iPhones, iPads and MacBooks all sit on separate wooden tables around the store. Next to each product is a little piece of paper (protected from wear and tear by plastic casing) that details the specs and pricing of the product. However, your next visit to the Apple store is going to be quite different. (more)

Much as we hate to admit it, we can't all afford a fancy new car with Sync or Mini Connected inside -- I mean, come on, we're not made of money, people. Thankfully, it seems MP3Car has a pretty slick and affordable solution to the problem of fumbling with your iPhone when you should probably be focusing on the road and not crashing into things. There are many ways to get your phone's tunes to your system's speakers, and now thanks to XtremeMac, you have two more. At $80, the InCharge Home BT is just $20 cheaper than an Apple TV, and it only lets you stream audio over bluetooth (vs. video, and WiFi for the Apple TV). Its on-the-go counterpart, however -- the InCharge Auto BT (also $80) (more)

Apple patent application suggests partial storage of music to speed up streaming

posted by Pedro CubiasPedro Cubias 2229 days, 19 hours, 18 minutes ago
Friday, May 20, 2011 8:08:27 AM GMT
Could Apple's forthcoming cloud-based music service have a leg up in speed compared to its competitors? It might if a recently published patent application from the company actually pans out. It suggests that just a snippet of the beginning of a song (or movie, for that matter) could be stored locally on a device, and then be synced to the complete version in the cloud, which would let you begin playback "immediately" rather than having to wait for the usual buffering to take place. The world of Monster Hunter will spread to another platform in June, franchise creator Capcom has announced. Monster Hunter: Dynamic Hunting is in development for iOS devices and will offer a "new intuitive control system...eschewing the typical D-pad" -- i.e., finger swipes and taps. It all looks a bit Infinity Blade-ish to us. (more)

Apple Testing iPhone on T-Mobile USA (Photos)

posted by Pedro CubiasPedro Cubias 2253 days, 20 hours ago
Tuesday, April 26, 2011 7:26:46 AM GMT
When the iPhone launched four years ago, in June of 2007, it was exclusive to AT&T. That exclusivity was supposed to last for five years, but it ended earlier this year when Verizon announced that the iPhone 4 was arriving on Big Red’s network. However, it seems Verizon’s run as ‘the other iPhone provider’ may be short-lived as pictures surfaced over the weekend to suggest the Apple smartphone could soon be headed to T-Mobile. (more)

Could the iPhone 5 look like a beveled iPod touch?

See that up there? That could be your next iPhone -- or it could be a tear-shaped dream. It's a mock-up of what is said to be the iPhone 5, according to anonymous sources quoted by Joshua Topolsky. A continuation of the concepts laid out in our post-CES look at what's next for Apple, the design here is said to be thin, metal-backed, tapered, and sporting a 3.7-inch display with the same 960 x 640 resolution in the iPhone 4's retina display -- resulting in a slight drop from that phone's vaunted 326ppi de... The iPhone Has Been Tracking Where You Go

posted by Pedro CubiasPedro Cubias 2257 days, 21 hours, 4 minutes ago
Friday, April 22, 2011 6:22:29 AM GMT
If you've carried an iPhone in your pocket over the last year, then every one of your moves has been tracked and recorded by the Apple device. Security researchers Alasdair Allan and Pete Warden have uncovered a file that the iPhone and iPad 3G use to record your location history for as far back as the user has been running iOS 4. For iPhone 4 users, that means ever since they got the phone. (more)

Samsung strikes back at Apple with ten patent infringement claims

This shouldn't come as a surprise to anyone: in the latest chapter of the Apple-Samsung dispute over their smartphones' resemblance, the latter company has just retaliated by filing lawsuits against Apple in three countries. Sammy's load of ammo include five patent infringements in South Korea, two in Japan, and three in Germany, though we've yet to hear more details about these claims. Now we just sit back and enjoy the show -- popcorn, anyone? (more)
