Monday, November 12, 2012 9:18:38 AM GMT
Online game publisher Nexon has announced that it's teaming up with Valve to bring the free-to-play Dota 2 to the Japanese and Korean markets. Dota 2 is of course based on a Warcraft 3 mod named Defense of the Ancients, and the multiplayer online battle arena style of gameplay, inspired by real-time strategy games, will likely appeal very much to those overseas markets. Valve's Gabe Newell says, according to the press release, that "partnering with Nexon will allow us to deliver Dota 2 to a massive audie... (more)

ROCKMAN HOLIC promo has a kickass X vs. Zero battle

posted by Pedro CubiasPedro Cubias 1754 days, 17 hours, 40 minutes ago
Saturday, October 27, 2012 6:10:49 AM GMT
A few weeks ago, I shared news of five upcoming Mega Man albums. Among those is ROCKMAN HOLIC, a 16-track vocal arrange album by the Japanese music label SOUND HOLIC. I really enjoyed the previous Mega Man-themed arrange album, Rockman Kai, so I'm looking forward to more cheesy, Japanese-y, anime-fueled fun. (more)

Sega's Model2 collection of arcade games for PSN, XBLA

Some of my fondest gaming memories come from the early 1990's, where Sega used its Model 2 arcade board to launch several great titles. Releases like Virtua Fighter 2, Sonic the Fighters, and Cyber Troopers Virtual-On seemed like the most advanced games ever made at the time. (more)

As announced by Nintendo president Satoru Iwata during a Nintendo Direct presentation, Japan is scheduled to receive three new 3DS XL bundles this year, two of which sport custom designs. Interestingly, these packages include their individual game pre-installed on an SD card. (more)

This is what the 3DS XL Circle Pad Pro looks like

posted by Pedro CubiasPedro Cubias 1790 days, 15 hours, 20 minutes ago
Friday, September 21, 2012 8:31:01 AM GMT
While we don't have a price or date for the 3DS XL Circle Pad Pro, Nintendo has posted an image of the add-on (the one on the left). It certainly looks like the Circle Pad Pro, albeit slightly less aesthetically unpleasing. And even though this shouldn't be taken as positive, at least with the XL, the system is already substantial in size, so adding even more to it doesn't seem quite so ... wrong. (more)

PSP to receive price drop in Japan tomorrow

posted by Pedro CubiasPedro Cubias 1791 days, 15 hours, 32 minutes ago
Thursday, September 20, 2012 8:18:45 AM GMT
It's a little bit astounding how successful the PlayStation Portable has been in Japan. Nine years after release and it's still incredibly popular. In an effort to make the device even more appealing to families and children, Sony is implementing yet another price drop on the hardware. Effective tomorrow, the PSP-3000 will be available for the low, low price of 13,800 yen, while the value pack bundle (which includes a memory card and cleaning cloth) drops to 14,800 yen. (more)

A few new trademarks from Square Enix have popped up recently, but only one of them gets me really excited. Sure, "Wizardlings" sounds cool, we already know what "Agent 47" is, and it looks like we're getting something called the "Ultima Box." I bet I know what the latter is. (more)

Report: Square Enix trademarks 'Circle of Mana'

posted by Pedro CubiasPedro Cubias 1803 days, 14 hours, 31 minutes ago

Square Enix has registered trademarks for, among other things, "Circle of Mana" in Japan, according to FF-Reunion, suggesting a new game in Square's beloved Mana series. The last Mana game to see release was 2007's Heroes of Mana; before that, the very weird physics-based action RPG Dawn of Mana came out on PS2. (more)

Dragon Quest X sells more than 400,000 at launch

posted by Pedro CubiasPedro Cubias 1833 days, 16 hours, 13 minutes ago
Thursday, August 09, 2012 7:37:10 AM GMT
Dragon Quest X sold 420,311 copies in its first week, according to Enterbrain data. The MMO's debut was low for a Dragon Quest game: Dragon Quest IX, as a comparison, sold 2,353,440 copies in its first week in Japan back in 2008. Of course, even if it sells fewer copies, it's an MMO and those sales will continue to pay out. (more)
