TwinBee goes '3D Classic' on 3DS, mostly

posted by Pedro CubiasPedro Cubias 2155 days, 10 hours, 49 minutes ago

Next week, Nintendo of Japan will release a 3DS "3D Classics" version of Twinbee -- which, if you're not familiar with the 3D Classics line, means a remake of the game, using the original graphics, with added 3D effects. And, uh, if you're not familiar with Twinbee, it's the first in a series of "cute-em-ups" from Konami in which a bulbous little ship shoots at enemies and collects power-ups in the form of bells. Well, we can't say we didn't see this one coming. Fujitsu Toshiba mobile communications -- now there's a mouthful -- just unveiled the IS12T: Japan's first Windows Phone 7 device, and according to Microsoft prez Yasuyuki Higuchi, the world's first Mango handset. The sexy and IPX5 waterproof (!) 3.7-inch WVGA slate is powered by Qualcomm's MSM8655 CPU of undisclosed clock speed (which we've seen running at 1GHz in the Incredible 2 and Thunderbolt), and goes on sale in "September or beyond" on KDDI's au ne... Kids and weird ladies are all up on Rhythm Heaven Wii

posted by Pedro CubiasPedro Cubias 2180 days, 10 hours, 16 minutes ago
Sunday, July 10, 2011 8:53:59 AM GMT
Rhythm Heaven Wii is about to be released in Japan, and marketing for the title is starting to pick up. We've already gotten a look at some of the game's 50+ levels, multi-player mode, and a endless games, but these TV spots show us a few more levels in greater detail. The "taking pictures of sweaty luchadors" level seems to be a big hit with the kids, and it looks like that vaguely androgynous middle aged woman really loves making those seals wiggle. (more)

Japanese TORo II gallops ahead at a mechanical snail's pace (video)

posted by Pedro CubiasPedro Cubias 2183 days, 8 hours, 54 minutes ago

Snails with benefits? Our salt shaker might disagree. But some enterprising engineers over at Japan's Chuo University managed to turn this garden-variety pest into fodder for mechatronic inspiration. Based on the gastropod's preferred method of 'galloping' -- wherein waves of foot-to-head muscle contractions propel it forward -- researchers at the Mechatronics Lab created TORo II, an omnidirectional robot that could make its way to a hospital near you. Japan Exoskeleton Makes 10x Carrying Strength

posted by Pedro CubiasPedro Cubias 2184 days, 10 hours, 11 minutes ago

How does a man that is paralyzed from the waist down climb a massive mountain? By being carried the entire way using a cybernetic exoskeleton of course! Seiji Uchida became paralyzed from the waist down after a car accident 28 years ago. Since then he has dreamed of climbing a mountain but it wasn't until Tsukuba University professor Yoshiyuki Sankai developed the Hybrid Assisted Limb (HAL) that it would be possible (more)

PlayStation Store is finally back up in Japan

Those of us living in America, Europe, and pretty much anywhere else in the world have been enjoying the return of the PlayStation Store for the past month, hopefully remembering to snag a few free games in the process. But in Japan, the birthplace of the PS3, the PSN revival hasn't gone beyond offering online gaming due to the government's concern about Sony's weak security. (more)

PlayStation magazine lets you look at Japanese actresses in 'ultra-high' resolution

What's killing the magazine industry? Could it be the lack of PlayStation compatibility or maybe the absence of "ultra-high" resolution? These are the questions Lucent Pictures Entertainment plans to put to the test with its upcoming iQueen magazine, a publication distributed for the PS3 via the PlayStation Store, offering up images of Japanese actress Masami Nagasawa in a staggering 4,096 by 2,160 resolution -- it's sure to make real life look downright lo-res by comparison. Nokia pulls out of Japan: once more, with feeling

Okay, we've played this game before, but that was almost three years ago. This time, Nokia's really leaving Japan, and they're taking their fancy luxury phones with them. Actually, Nokia's high-end Vertu phones were all it had left in the land of the rising sun, and even those were only readily available in Tokyo's Shibuya and Ginza districts -- so out of Japan by the end of July? No problem. (more)

I'm sure Sony is trying to push as many PSP systems out the door as they can before the PS Vita lands. These new PSP value packs may help them out a bit in Japan. On July 28th Japanese retailers will start selling these 17,800 yen ($220) value packs in Piano Black, Vibrant Blue and Blossom Pink. They come with the system, charger, battery, cleaning cloth, case, and a 2GB Memory Stick Duo Mark II. (more)

Could Dragon Quest X be an early Wii U title

posted by Pedro CubiasPedro Cubias 2197 days, 12 hours, 32 minutes ago

According to Andriasang, Square Enix CEO Yoichi Wada was asked why they would release Dragon Quest X on the Wii when the Wii U is already on the horizon. Wada responded that Square Enix must consider making the game compatible with both the Wii and the Wii U. Of course, that's not quite confirmation of a Wii U DQX, but it at least gives some hope. Japan's free 3DS TV starts, has girl sumo action

The last thing I'd want to do is watch television on my 3DS, but it would be useful for a nation of people that are always on the move -- like Japan. Japanese 3DS will see the launch of the "Itsu no Ma ni Terebi" 3DS TV service this week. It's a collaboration between Nintendo, Fuji TV and Nippon TV, and it will be free through add support. An app for the service will pop up in the Japanese eShop starting tomorrow. (more)

The 3DS is expensive and with 3D technology still in its infancy, it’s only natural that people are a little wary of dropping $250 on something that may soon be considered old or out of date. Still, though 3DS sales have been slower than its predecessors, they’re creeping steadily upwards. (more)

Like Uncharted 2 before it, Uncharted 3 will receive a full and reportedly high quality Japanese localization. Of much more importance, however, is the game's Japanese title. (more)
