In the latest issue of the UK's PSM3 magazine, Batman: Arkham City director Sefton Hill outlined an upgrade to Batman's "Detective Mode" designed to help him extract information. Details on why Microsoft dropped a Kinect processor

posted by Pedro CubiasPedro Cubias 2517 days, 4 hours, 55 minutes ago
Thursday, September 30, 2010 7:10:09 AM GMT
The Kinect's innards used to contain a standalone processor. In January they said they ditched it and now we have a bit more information on why. Before the removal of the processor, the Kinect used it for number crunching. Now, with the removal, the Xbox 360's processing does all the work. Kinect's main man at Microsoft, Kudo Tsunoda, explains: "We didn't know how much processing Kinect was going to take at the start of development," Tsunoda told the new Xbox World 360. (more)

Wi-Fi is awesome. Just think of the days before Wi-Fi when you had to be tethered to the wall to get on the internet. For a desktop, it wasn't a big deal, but Wi-Fi has changed the way that we compute on laptops. (more)

Crytek boss explains company's 'non-game' businesses

Wednesday, September 29, 2010 4:44:49 AM GMT Monday, September 27, 2010 7:08:15 AM GMT
While Crytek is known for their games, the company actually makes a good deal of money on non-game businesses. Gamasutra quizzed Crytek studio head Cevat Yerli about the company's rapid expansion from "developer of Far Cry" to becoming a massive, international organization that currently employs six game studios -- in locations as varied as the UK, Budapest, Frankfurt Kiev, Sofia, and Korea. CryEngine 3 licensing brings in some dough, but how else does Crytek maintain its operations? (more)

posted by Pedro CubiasPedro Cubias 2522 days, 12 hours ago

And why shouldn't they? Dead Rising 2: Case Zero has been a huge success since launching on Xbox Live a few weeks back. At TGS, Capcom announced the game was closing in on 500,000 copies sold. But is there really a way to judge its effectiveness as a marketing solution compared to more traditional sales means, such as TV, print and online ads? (more)

Allow gamers to take up the mantle of the Taliban in your game and you're bound to receive some ire. EA is learning all about that with Medal of Honor, as the mainstream media and the British government have vocalized concerns. British Defence Secretary Liam Fox has actually called for a countrywide ban of the game outright, stating that it's "shocking that someone would think it acceptable to recreate the acts of the Taliban against British soldiers," even though you don't actually kill any British troo... In a candid post on Introversion Software's DEFCON forums, company co-founder Mark Morris admits that the Darwinia+ developer was close to closing up shop following disappointing sales of the game's XBLA port. "Internally we knew within about an hour of Darwinia+'s launch that it hadn't done well enough," Morris wrote. "It took us about two weeks to really accept that and the awful realisation that we didn't have enough to continue with the office or the staff. We had a bunch of creditors knocking at the... (more)

Review: Monday Night Combat

posted by Pedro CubiasPedro Cubias 2561 days, 3 hours, 20 minutes ago
Tuesday, August 17, 2010 8:44:42 AM GMT
Two teams of cartoon-like class-based combatants compete in multiplayer arenas with a range of quirky skills and ludicrous weapons. Sound familiar? Of course it does! Monday Night Combat looks and sounds as derivative as they come, with an art style and general premise that appears shamelessly ripped from Valve's Team Fortress 2. However, under its aesthetic surface, Monday Night Combat boasts a deceptively inventive core, with a unique blending of genres that works surprisingly well. (more)

Nail'd secures October 19 release date

posted by Pedro CubiasPedro Cubias 2564 days, 2 hours, 47 minutes ago

Techland's insane ATV game Nail'd might defy reality in many ways, chaining together ridiculous stunts that nobody should ever do, on courses that rely on incredible, unlikely circumstances -- but even something with as little regard for the real world as this must adhere to linear time. To that end, publisher Deep Silver has announced a release date for the game: October 19 in North America, and October 22 in Europe. (more)

Amazon sent out word of a Castlevania: Lords of Shadow limited edition a bit early this week by releasing a mockup image of the package. Now the retailer has boldly tweeted (if one can do something called "tweeting" in a bold manner) release info for the limited edition, pricing it at $79.99 on PS3 and Xbox 360. The image is exactly the same as this week's mockup, meaning that we will get that nice hand-painted artwork on the box (that looks a lot like the work of longtime Castlevania artist Ayami Kojima...
