Politicians. Actors. Singers, too. What do they have in common with Xbox Japan mascot Sanrokumaru? They have all thrown out the first pitch at baseball games. Sanrokumaru stars in a new series of TV ads in which he and the rest of the "Xbox Mission Department" attempts to secure titles like the new Virtual-On for the Xbox 360. (more)

ZDNet reports that "a pretty reliable tipster" has informed them that J Allard, Chief Experience Officer of Microsoft and overseer of the development and launch of the Xbox 360, is "on sabbatical and is unlikely to return to Microsoft." According to the tipster, Allard was upset by the sudden, surreptitious cancellation of the Microsoft Courier, which Allard has frequently talked up since it was first revealed last September. (more)

posted by Pedro CubiasPedro Cubias 2679 days, 16 hours, 34 minutes ago

Though we're deeply fascinated with the concept for Zombie Cow's next quirky project, the genital-exploring twin-stick shooter Privates, we hadn't considered the hurdles this type of mature innovation might face. Seattle PI recently posited the question of whether the game would even be allowed to launch on Xbox Live Indie Games, to which a Microsoft representative replied, "we can confirm that if it is consistent with the description we have seen on the Internet, this game would not pass peer review and... Well, it looks like the Courier's demise could be having some far bigger implications for Microsoft than anyone had suspected. Australian Xbox 360 owners will later this year get access to what Americans would call cable television, with a deal struck between Microsoft and Foxtel, a provider of satellite TV. While exact details like pricing and, more importantly, exactly what channels are available are thin on the ground, we do know that for a monthly subscription fee 360 owners will get access to Fox Sports, Discovery, Nickelodeon, Disney, MTV and "other leading channels" (more)

If you're hoping to get acquainted with the world of Alan Wake before the game's extremely imminent release, you may want to watch the six-part mini-series Bright Falls, all of which is now available on Machinima's YouTube channel. Regardless of whether or not you understand a lick of what transpires during the Twin Peaks-esque series, it's still a really well-made tie-in, and gives a great sense of the unsettling environments the titular Wake will be exploring. Though Microsoft has already announced it will be doubling up on this year's helping of E3 media showings, we received word this morning that Sunday evening's Project Natal event will feature a "spectacular live performance imagined by Cirque du Soleil." The June 13 event had only been scantly detailed since we first got our invites back in March -- luckily, we always anticipated some kind of media circus. (more)

Xbox 360 and LG form a 3D partnership in South Korea

While Microsoft isn't pushing 3D gaming as heavily as Sony is, you know they have to be thinking about it. And from the looks of things, it seems like they're also working on it in some form. Engadget caught wind of a Korean press release that says that LG and Microsoft are going to buddy up and jointly market LG's new 3D TVs alongside 3D-enabled Xbox 360 games in South Korea, moving later to greater Asia. They'll actually bundle Xbox 360 3D games with the LG 55 or 47LX9500 LED set by the end of June. (more)

Fable 3 art team working on a menagerie of animals

You may not have been too disappointed by Fable 2's lack of animals (filthy, stinking animals), but Lionhead's Lead Artist John McCormack was, and he tells Beauty of Games that he's making up for it with the next game. "The lack of animals in the Fable franchise is always something that has bothered me," he says, and so in Fable 3, "we've built bats, crows, rabbits, ducks, robins, vultures, lizards, rats, butterflies, moths, insect swarms, dogs, fireflies, geese and we even started on a cow." Late last month, Palm was purchased by HP. Not too long after, amid talk that HP had canned its Windows 7 Slate, speculation emerged regarding a HP Slate running Palm's WebOS operating system. Today speculation turns into rumors as Examiner.com reports HP is planning a WebOS tablet called the Hurricane. That's right, it looks like HP is ditching the "Slate" moniker in favor of something a little more dramatic for this device. It would appear the side-scrolling shoot-em-up PC Gamer called "a blast" back in 2002, Duke Nukem: Manhattan Project, will eventually find its way onto Xbox Live Arcade. It's happening, right? Like, we've seen a couple ratings pop up for the game, so it's gotta be a done deal -- come on, will somebody just officially announce this already? The latest indication (and hopefully precursor to a real announcement) comes from the ESRB, which offers the listing you see above. (more)

According to the Microsoft Security Response Center, Microsoft will issue two Security Bulletins addressing two vulnerabilities on Tuesday. It will also host a webcast to address customer questions about the bulletins the following day (May 12 at 11:00 am PST, if you're interested). Both of the vulnerabilities are rated "Critical," and they earned their rating through a remote code execution impact, meaning a hacker could potentially gain control of an infected machine. At least one of the two patches ... (more)
