Nintendo shows off special edition Super Mario Bros. DSi and DSi XL

posted by Pedro CubiasPedro Cubias 2459 days, 4 minutes ago
Thursday, September 30, 2010 6:51:29 AM GMT
Yeah, Super Mario Bros. was kind of a big deal, and we can't fault Nintendo for wanting to celebrate: September 13th marked the 25th anniversary of the game's launch, and Nintendo is pushing out special editions of the DSi and DSi XL (pictured) to celebrate, along with some pretty sweet swag. We mentioned the handhelds this morning, but now we've got a couple pictures -- way to play it subdued, Nintendo. (more)

Nicalis details Cave Story's jump to DSiWare, WiiWare update coming

published 2460 days, 2 hours, 11 minutes ago posted by Pedro CubiasPedro Cubias 2461 days, 23 hours, 51 minutes ago
Wednesday, September 29, 2010 4:44:49 AM GMT Monday, September 27, 2010 7:04:56 AM GMT
In a recent interview with the DS aficionados of Tiny Cartridge, Nicalis' Tyrone Rodriguez dropped a few details about the upcoming DSiWare port of Studio Pixel's delightful action-platformer, Cave Story. He explained that while the portable version will have some of the new features added in the WiiWare version launched earlier this year, Nicalis "kept it relatively lean in comparison mainly because this is more a perfect port of the original game." To that effect, there won't be any touch-screen contro... (more)

Solatorobo preview: Robot trumps furry

Solatorobo: And Then to Coda for DS is kind of an unofficial sequel to the PlayStation furry/mech adventure Tail Concerto. It's apparently set in the same universe, featuring cameos from Tail Concerto characters. It's also developed by the same studio, CyberConnect2, which most recently made news for hooking up with Capcom on the weird Asura's Wrath. (more)

You don't say: Pokemon Black/White are a success in Japan

posted by Pedro CubiasPedro Cubias 2465 days, 23 hours, 32 minutes ago
Thursday, September 23, 2010 7:23:08 AM GMT
The number of pre-orders for Pokemon Black and White in Japan was pretty crazy, but they've got nothing on the amount of copies sold in the first week: 2.55 million. In fact, The Pokemon Company International called them the "fastest-selling DS games ever in Japan over the first week of sales." Just when you're starting to think the formula has gone unchanged for too long, they switch up the design in a few key areas and it pays off big time. (more)

Samurai Warriors 3 cover edits the boobs in North America

Samurai Warriors 3 is coming Stateside very soon, but not in its original form. In a move that could be considered even more outrageous than the famous Yakuza 3 edits, it has been discovered that Nintendo of America edited out a bit of cleavage on the game's box art! CENSORSHIP! (more)

TGS: Hands-on with the spooktacular Ghost Trick

posted by Pedro CubiasPedro Cubias 2469 days, 23 hours, 47 minutes ago
Sunday, September 19, 2010 7:08:46 AM GMT
Ghost Trick is not an action game. It's the new game from the team that brought us the fairly non-violent Ace Attorney series. Still, non-violent doesn't mean easy, and it certainly doesn't mean that you aren't going to die. In fact, Ghost Trick starts off with the death of the game's main character, and from there on out, his continued existence on this mortal plane is constantly in peril. (more)

Nintendo trademarks Super Mario anniversary logo

posted by Pedro CubiasPedro Cubias 2480 days, 1 minute ago
Thursday, September 09, 2010 6:54:13 AM GMT
The 25th anniversary of Super Mario Bros' NES debut is only a week away. To celebrate, Nintendo of Japan has trademarked a new ... logo. Siliconera speculates that the logo will be appended to the upcoming Japanese re-release of Mario All-Stars (known as Super Mario Collection). But, why go through the effort of trademarking a logo for a single product? Presumably, the company will want to use this logo on all Mario games in the coming year. (more)

ND Cube, the developer behind the Nintendo-published Wii release Wii Party, has been brought into the Big N's fold, according to a new "Iwata Asks" feature on the console-maker's Japanese site. In it, it's revealed that Nintendo has purchased a 96 percent stake in ND Cube, effectively becoming its new owner. (We're counting the days until Nintendo renames it "ND Wii.") (more)

Preview: Rock Band 3 (DS)

posted by Pedro CubiasPedro Cubias 2502 days, 22 hours, 25 minutes ago
Tuesday, August 17, 2010 8:31:00 AM GMT
If you're familiar with Unplugged, you should be able to jump right into Rock Band 3's Expert modes on DS. The gameplay is identical: all the instruments and the vocals are charted at once, and you freely switch between them as you attempt to successfully play note phrases to keep each part "alive." It's Harmonix's classic Frequency game, but with rock music. Rock Band 3 for DS doesn't take advantage of the touch screen or the built-in mic -- nor does it require you to pay attention to both screens at o... (more)

Fun fact: Europe makes up 20 percent of Joystiq's traffic, with half of that being from the UK. So, first off, sincere thanks to Europe! With that said, we will be over in Germany next week for GDC Europe and GamesCom. EA and Sony have back-to-back press conferences scheduled for next Tuesday, starting at 10:00 a.m. EDT. Although we aren't expecting another reveal like last year's PS3 Slim, surprises are always welcome. So, check out our coverage of Europe's biggest gaming show next week. (more)

Warren Spector wants to make a DuckTales game

posted by Pedro CubiasPedro Cubias 2505 days, 21 hours, 47 minutes ago
Saturday, August 14, 2010 9:08:13 AM GMT
DuckTales is my jam, ooOOOoooh. In fact, I'm all for all the Capcom and Disney games that featured the duck (or the mouse), especially back in the 8 and 16-bit era. My favorite? A Japan-only QuackShot port for the Sega Saturn, which I proudly show off to visitors. None of them seem to care, naturally. Well, Warren Spector would. I doubt he's ever coming over to see my Saturn Collection, but if he did, we'd play QuackShot, some Magical Drop, and then talk about how Epic Mickey could be on any console, an... (more)

Shake off that sense of deja vu. We're talking about a different Cabela's game here: Activision has just announced Cabela's Dangerous Hunts 2011, the next installment in its iterative series of hunt-em-down-and-shoot-em-ups. It's set to stalk retail shelves "late fall" and will be available on the Xbox 360, PS3, Wii and DS systems. Every version sans the DS installment will come packed with the Top Shot Elite controller, a wireless gun peripheral created by the same people at Activision who brought you t... (more)

A new trailer posted by MTV Multiplayer unveils six NBA stars who will return in big-headed glory: Clyde Drexler, Kevin MacHale, Dennis Rodman, Hakeem Olajuwan, Detlef Schrempf, and James Worthy. Half of that is replicated in these R/C Mario Kart toys, which we saw standing still last month but now can finally see in action motoring around what looks to be either Corporate Carpet Raceway or CDR Castle. New GoldenEye 007 also coming to DS this year

posted by Pedro CubiasPedro Cubias 2521 days, 6 hours, 13 minutes ago

When rumors were flying about a new GoldenEye game just before E3, both Wii and DS versions were supposedly in the works. But when Nintendo and Activision made it official during the expo, only the Daniel Craig-ified Wii game was announced (despite the DS logo also appearing on the official game page). Today, the DS version of GoldenEye 007 showed up again, this time in Nintendo's upcoming releases calendar that joined the company's quarterly earnings report. (more)
