Wednesday, July 28, 2010 7:50:53 AM GMT
Earlier today we talked about how Flip's Twisted World was having a hard time getting publicity, especially during such an intense release year for the Wii. With that in mind, why is developer Frozen North putting this game on the Wii? (more)

Ubisoft has released a short teaser for the upcoming live-action short film based on Ghost Recon: Future Soldier (not to be confused with the live-action trailer for the game that released earlier this year). Entitled Ghost Recon: Alpha, it appears the short will focus primarily on soldiers murdering people in precise, futuristic ways. (more)

FIFA 11 for Wii to include street soccer mode

posted by Pedro CubiasPedro Cubias 2638 days, 9 hours, 47 minutes ago
Wednesday, July 28, 2010 7:18:58 AM GMT
Those planning on signing up for the Wii version of EA's FIFA 11 will find an exclusive game mode in the package: street soccer. It takes players to the streets of major cities around the world for less official games of footy, in places like Brazil, France and London. The mode will allow players to "use the wall to jump past defenders or bank passes to teammates" and select from a set of different match types, like First to Score, Tug of War and Timed games. The Force Unleashed 2 dev diary certainly does unleash the force

posted by Pedro CubiasPedro Cubias 2641 days, 20 hours, 40 minutes ago
Saturday, July 24, 2010 8:25:56 PM GMT
We knew the Sithdi (Jedith?) known as Starkiller had some serious Force-wielding prowess in the series' first installment, but if the dev diary for The Force Unleashed 2 posted below is any indication, we haven't really seen anything yet. Force Push is great -- but Force Disintegrate is better. (more)

The latest character to be revealed in Sengoku Basara: Samurai Heroes has us thankful for Capcom's liberal use of creative license. In the game, Otani Yoshitsugu is a sort of mystic shrouded by bandages, who floats magically through the air as he attacks with a ring of flying projectiles. (more)

Konami has released the first screenshots of Karaoke Revolution Glee. They're about how you'd expect, comprised of footage from the show and a lyric track. The best part about the game, of course, is that you won't have to wait to sing along with the show every week. What? You don't do that? Oh, well neither do we. (more)

Miyamoto: The Next Wii Will NOT be 3D-enabled

posted by Pedro CubiasPedro Cubias 2649 days, 8 hours, 4 minutes ago
Saturday, July 17, 2010 9:01:27 AM GMT
It seems like everyone is jumping on the 3D bandwagon, except consumers. Sure, 3D movies are nice to watch in the cinema, but none of us are willing to part with thousands of dollars to attempt to bring that experience to our living room. 3D gaming is no different; so many companies are endeavoring to be the first to bring the experience of three-dimensional gaming to users. Famitsu recently rounded up some high-profile Japanese developers to gauge their reactions to Nintendo's 3DS hardware. According to a translation by Andriasang, the responses ran from business-minded declarations of intent to somewhat philosophical thinking-out-loud. (more)

Nintendo unlikely to significantly alter 3DS design before release

posted by Pedro CubiasPedro Cubias 2653 days, 8 hours, 14 minutes ago

In an interview from this year's E3 that's only just been published, Nintendo 3DS platform producer Hideo Konno says that the upcoming handheld is in its "final shape." Reggie Fils-Aime, the company's leading North American voice, has more recently told us that, au contraire, the E3 consoles are not the final design, though parsing the two into one coherent message would suggest that Nintendo's just leaving itself room to make small changes if the need arises. NFL Hall of Famer Jim Brown appeals dismissed lawsuit against EA

Jim Brown, nine-season running back for the Cleveland Browns and NFL Hall of Fame inductee, filed a lawsuit against Electronic Arts in 2008 for using his likeness in Madden '09 without first obtaining his permission. Last September, U.S. District Judge Florence-Marie Cooper (who passed away in January from lymphoma) ruled that EA was protected by First Amendment rights -- a decision which Brown is now attempting to overturn in a San Francisco appellate court. Could we see our Wii Miis on the 3DS?

The question sounds so obvious that Captain Obvious may swoop down and punch me in the head, but hearing it straight from Nintendo would be better. While this isn't confirmation, we do have Nintendo's Shigeru Miyamoto talking about how they want to continue to allow gamers to use their Miis on other game systems going foward. (more)

Nintendo's Miyamoto says Miis could make the jump to the 3DS

Nintendo already dropped a hint that Miis could be heading to the 3DS by including some Mii-like characters in the Pilotwings demo at E3 last month, and Shigeru Miyamoto himself has now offered some further confirmation that Nintendo is at least looking at the possibility. Speaking with IGN this week, he says that it is "something that we're definitely giving consideration to," and that Nintendo wants to "continue to try to allow people to use their Miis on different Nintendo systems going forward." A look at gaming's many revolutions

posted by Pedro CubiasPedro Cubias 2660 days, 8 hours, 41 minutes ago
Tuesday, July 06, 2010 8:24:46 AM GMT
Patriotism may not be my favorite thing ever, but I do love a good revolution. That's a big part of why I love the videogame industry. In television, movies and music, truly revolutionary moments are few and far between. In videogames, they hit every couple of years, if not sooner. No artistic medium that I know of has evolved this far, this quickly. Knowing that videogames are in a perpetual growth spurt makes scouring for gaming news every morning a daily exercise in excitement. (more)

Ah, the July 4th weekend. The perfect time for grilling hot dogs, setting off fireworks, jumping in the pool, and ... hockey? That's what 2K Games wants you to think about -- it's sending an NHL 2K11 recreational vehicle on the road this summer, giving you a chance to play the new game in a town near you. The RV started at E3 a few weeks ago in LA, and after a quick stop in Santa Monica next week, it's off to the wild roads of the United States and Canada (the full schedule is after the break). (more)

Rock Band 3's pitch correction provided by iZotope

You won't need to swallow a little computer to sound robotically awesome in Rock Band 3. Audio signal processing company iZotope, Inc. has announced that it's providing pitch correction technology to the music game, as initially revealed to Joystiq in an interview with Harmonix. The game will use iZotope's real-time pitch detection and correction to make you sound less like yourself and more like someone who can hit a damn note occasionally. And for those of you who are already vocally gifted, the use o... (more)

Junction Point taking the (mean) Mickey out of Epic Mickey

posted by Pedro CubiasPedro Cubias 2666 days, 17 hours, 16 minutes ago
Tuesday, June 29, 2010 11:49:37 PM GMT
One of the key features in Disney Epic Mickey is the ability for players to choose either good or evil actions as Mickey Mouse. We originally learned that Mickey's appearance would change based on what sort of actions you take. Take good actions, and he would appear more like the Mickey we all know and love. Take evil actions, on the other hand, and he would transform into something decidedly more sinister. (more)

Twisted Pixel helping with Turbine-developed console MMO

The digitally prolific studio that brought us The Maw and 'Splosion Man (in the same year, no less) -- not to mention the still-in-development Comic Jumper -- has quietly announced "a contract with Turbine to help them build an awesome new MMO intended for consoles." Yep, for consoles. Unfortunately, the developer seems to be keeping mum on more details, saying, "If you want more than that, you'll have to take it up with Turbine, because we can't spill the beans on their... (more)
