Gaming, Handhelds Blue Nintendo DSi XL headed to the US of A

posted by Pedro CubiasPedro Cubias 2576 days, 8 hours, 18 minutes ago
Thursday, June 10, 2010 7:44:05 AM GMT
Nintendo rather quietly announced earlier that as of July 11th, it will see the DSi XL in Midnight Blue. The new color model will cost $189.99 -- just like every other DSi XL -- and will also come with all the same installed software and apps. Yes, other than the color (we'll give them this, it's a pretty sweet shade of blue) this one's identical to every other DSi XL. (more)

This book has 100 Classic Books in it

posted by Pedro CubiasPedro Cubias 2577 days, 9 hours, 27 minutes ago
Wednesday, June 09, 2010 6:35:10 AM GMT
Perhaps fearing that we wouldn't understand the concept of reading books on a DS, Nintendo sent press copies of the game disguised in a form that readers would find comfortable: a large, "leather"-bound, hardcover book. Only upon opening the front cover did we learn its terrible secret: it's not full of paper at all, but rather a copy of 100 Classic Books, Nintendo and HarperCollins' DS collection of literary standards. Nintendo 3DS Processing Close to PS3, Xbox 360?

posted by Pedro CubiasPedro Cubias 2577 days, 9 hours, 33 minutes ago
Wednesday, June 09, 2010 6:28:48 AM GMT
Sorry Nintendo, but the notion of a Nintendo-branded handheld gaming device that's nearly on par with Microsoft's Xbox 360 and Sony's PlayStation 3 is downright questionable. However that's what unnamed Nintendo 3DS developers are claiming, saying that its processing capabilities far exceed the Wii home console and are close to what's offered on the two HD consoles. Sims 3 console trailer exposes the dark nature of humanity

posted by Pedro CubiasPedro Cubias 2578 days, 10 hours, 9 minutes ago

That unsavory proclamation is the first in a long series of deep, dark confessions made in the debut trailer, currently hosted on MTV, for the console versions of The Sims 3. Watch as ordinary people -- by which, of course, we mean paid, professional actors -- air out their dirty, in-game laundry. (more)

CESA calculates gaming industry losses due to portable piracy

posted by Pedro CubiasPedro Cubias 2579 days, 9 hours, 2 minutes ago
Monday, June 07, 2010 7:00:35 AM GMT
Japan's Computer Entertainment Suppliers Association recently conducted a study of the the world's 114 most popular sites for illegal game downloads in order to get a rough estimate on how much the industry has lost due to software piracy. The results aren't pretty: According to Andriasang's report on the group's calculations, piracy on the DS and PSP alone between 2004 and 2009 cost the worldwide games industry roughly 3.816 trillion yen, or around $41.7 billion. Join us in a "holy crap," won't you? Hol... (more)

Report: New GoldenEye coming in November, to be revealed at E3

posted by Pedro CubiasPedro Cubias 2580 days, 7 hours, 27 minutes ago
Sunday, June 06, 2010 8:35:02 AM GMT
More evidence to support the circulating rumors of a GoldenEye remake surfaced this past week. The most convincing comes from Eurogamer, which reports that a source has confirmed Activision is working on a revamped version of the classic Nintendo 64 shooter for the Wii and DS to be released this November. The game is supposedly being developed by n-Space and Eurocom, the latter of which created the N64 version of The World is Not Enough. The source also mentioned the publisher will showcase the title for... (more)

Gold's Gym Dance Workout is set to continue Ubisoft's cost-effective, potential hit-making formula this August. For those just joining us, Ubi's Just Dance has sambaed silly amounts of cash into the publisher's coffers. And because you can't stop the beat, the company is premiering Dance on Broadway this June. Science: EA Sports Active is a real workout

posted by Pedro CubiasPedro Cubias 2583 days, 7 hours, 37 minutes ago

Think the peripheral-equipped EA Sports Active provides nothing more than a wussy, girly-man workout? You might be right, but at least it's a wussy, girly-man doctor-approved workout. So says a new study conducted by a researcher from the University of Wisconsin, who found that EA's exer-game meets the requirements set up by the American College of Sports Medicine for "a healthy, active lifestyle." Nintendo Reveals Three New DSi XL Colors

posted by Pedro CubiasPedro Cubias 2584 days, 8 hours, 18 minutes ago
Wednesday, June 02, 2010 7:44:36 AM GMT
Later this month, on June 19, Nintendo will be letting loose on the world (well, Japan) three new colours of the DSi XL: Yellow, Blue and Green. That's it! No fancy names like Wine or Cheese Wine or Puce. Just Yellow, Blue and Green. Reminds me both of children's toys and the Super Nintendo control pad. They're all very strong, simple, bold colours. I like. Though they've only been revealed for the Japanese market, hopefully they also get released in the West. Or, better still, they're the launch colour... (more)

Gamer Beats Super Mario Bros. With Dance Pad

posted by Pedro CubiasPedro Cubias 2585 days, 9 hours, 3 minutes ago

During my early years, beating Super Mario Bros. to save the Princess was a huge achievement. After the ordeal, the victorious gamer often had some sore thumbs from the d-pad and button. Now decades later, a gamer has shown that he's able to beat the game just by using his feet… on a dance pad. (more)

Reserve Metroid: Other M, get snazzy 'art folio'

posted by Pedro CubiasPedro Cubias 2587 days, 8 hours, 53 minutes ago
Sunday, May 30, 2010 7:08:47 AM GMT
I'm not going to pretend that I know anything about "art folios," but I guess I'll be getting one with Metroid: Other M. You see, I've already reserved the game at GameStop. And by doing so, it guarantees I'll be receiving a "collectible art folio featuring 16 individual high-quality cards." Not sure how big this thing is, as the picture on GameStop.com could be misleading; I can't tell if they're the size of business cards or legal paper. Who cares; my guess is they'll feature some stunningly awesome M... (more)

It will likely come as no surprise that Square Enix recently published a press release announcing an English localization for Final Fantasy: The 4 Heroes of Light. The DS RPG, which touts "beautiful picture book visuals and an easy to control battle system," and a setting which "goes back to the basics and origins of the Final Fantasy series," will come to the US on October 5, according to the game's official site. Game SERIES Debate to the Death! Golden Sun series

posted by Pedro CubiasPedro Cubias 2590 days, 8 hours, 36 minutes ago
Thursday, May 27, 2010 7:25:59 AM GMT
Yes, I know. Calling Golden Sun a series is a little laughable, but this RPG tournament qualification process is all about including every game the Dtoid Army demands, and the Golden Sun games were high on that list. In last week's debate we opened the flood gates to what will surely be one of the fiercest competitors in the tournament that lies ahead. I basically asked everyone what "generation" of Pokémon games was their overall favorite, and "it was super effective." With almost 200 votes cast, I'd c... (more)

New Legend of Zelda will release when it's 'perfect'

posted by Pedro CubiasPedro Cubias 2594 days, 8 hours, 1 minute ago

Nintendo of America boss Reggie Fils-Aime has chosen to sidestep the news that the latest Legend of Zelda would release in 2010, instead claiming that fans should not expect the still-in-development Wii game to release until it's absolutely perfect. "Right now it's still in development but the key message that Mr Aonuma and Mr Miyamoto are telling us is that it really has to be perfect when it launches," says the beefy boss. "That is what the fans are expecting. (more)

Nintendo doesn't enjoy making mature games

The other day, Nintendo of America's president Reggie Fils-Aime stated how Nintendo isn't very good at making mature games. The beefburger boss has since elaborated on his comments, stating that part of the reason is that Nintendo simply doesn't enjoy creating them. "It's a priority for us bringing a range of entertainment. It's a priority for us to have a range of third party licensees see success on the platform," claims the medium rare executive. Mario is for guys in their fifties

posted by Pedro CubiasPedro Cubias 2594 days, 8 hours, 9 minutes ago
Sunday, May 23, 2010 7:53:36 AM GMT
It's not uncommon for people to say that Nintendo only makes games for kids, and that the Mario games in particular are kid-only experiences. For instance, Blur, an upcoming "realistic" racing game featuring missile launching race cars and giant explosions, has a new commercial that's all about how Mario Kart isn't for "big boys". That may or may not be the case, but what about "old men"? What games are for them? Well, according to Shigeru Miyamoto, a +50 year old man, Mario games are made for him, and ... (more)
