Nintendo Wii gets American Heart Association's stamp of approval

posted by Pedro CubiasPedro Cubias 2767 days, 7 hours, 13 minutes ago
Monday, May 17, 2010 7:26:51 PM GMT
When we heard that Nintendo and the American Heart Association would be making an announcement today, we (and most everyone else) assumed that it would have something to do with Nintendo's forthcoming Vitality Sensor. As it turns out, however, it's something altogether more surprising -- the AHA has announced that it's actually putting its stamp of approval on the Wii itself (as well as Wii Fit Plus and Wii Sports Resort). Green Day: Rock Band more familiar to 'core audience' than The Beatles, MTV Games says

posted by Pedro CubiasPedro Cubias 2768 days, 19 hours, 56 minutes ago
Sunday, May 16, 2010 6:43:00 AM GMT
The Beatles are a tough act to follow. And so, several weeks from the release of Green Day: Rock Band, publisher MTV Games has some promoting to do. MTV Games GM Scott Gutherie recently explained the reasoning behind picking the younger, less "classic rock"–oriented band for its next single-act music game following The Beatles: Rock Band. (more)

Puzzle Quest 2 coming to DS June 22

posted by Pedro CubiasPedro Cubias 2773 days, 2 hours, 13 minutes ago
Wednesday, May 12, 2010 12:26:57 AM GMT
We know there have been plenty of pretenders to the Puzzle Quest throne, many developed/perpetrated by developer Infinite Interactive itself. But do you still remember? Is there a place in your memory for those seemingly countless hours you spent peering into your DS, hoping to line up enough red gems to get off that last fire spell before you were overwhelmed by a giant spider? Do you remember? More importantly: Have the countless clones and wannabes completely dulled your desire for a return to the wor... (more)

Study: Americans spent $25.3 billion on games in 2009

posted by Pedro CubiasPedro Cubias 2773 days, 2 hours, 19 minutes ago
Wednesday, May 12, 2010 12:20:48 AM GMT
US consumers of those newfangled video games apparently spent $25.3 billion on them in 2009, according to the Today's Gamers Survey by Newzoo and TNS. If this study seems vaguely familiar, it's likely because there was a similar report released on massively multiplayer games a couple months ago, which found that Americans spent $3.8 billion on MMOs during 2009. Typically, data we see comes from retailers, but this survey was conducted using 13,000 respondents, aged 8 and up, who were "carefully selected ... (more)

Wii at Last, Wii at Last, Thank God Almighty ...

posted by Pedro CubiasPedro Cubias 2774 days, 20 hours, 19 minutes ago

Wii at Last, Wii at Last, Thank God Almighty ... So President Obama, once again, dinged video games in a speech. I'd rather send a more uplifting message, where a console is judged not by the content of its games, but the color of its skin. As we know, today is an historic day* in America - the first black Wii is available for purchase. Here's Black Nerd Comedy's take on what this means for our post-racial society. There's a Big Free Ad for some t-shirts he's hawking at the end; we don't endorse that a... (more)

Wii has 79 million sellers, but what are they?

posted by Pedro CubiasPedro Cubias 2774 days, 20 hours, 21 minutes ago
Monday, May 10, 2010 6:18:43 AM GMT
Nintendo had a thing recently where they said some stuff to keep their investors happy. It was at this thing that they announced Wii Party and that Apple is their future enemy. They also mentioned that as of March 2010, 79 Wii games have shipped 1 million or more copies worldwide. A year earlier, that number was at 54. As you math-fans in the audience have already concluded, that means that in the past 12 months, 25 more Wii games have managed to achieve that magic, arbitrary, badge of success known as "... (more)

Since Super Meat Boy was first announced, it's inspired two comic books, plenty of stuffed "animals", and an educational series of posts on game design, among other things. The US army even sent the game's developers a flag. Not bad for a game that hasn't even been released yet. (more)

Typical, isn't it? A full four days before these things are supposed to go on sale to the North American masses, an image of Nintendo's black Wii console has leaked from none other than Best Buy. This here shipment was actually received in the Great White North, but we're more than confident that similar packages are hitting the shipping docks of Best Buy stores everywhere here in the US, too. This week, Nintendo is flooding its store with six titles for its DSi, half of which are animal-centric titles. Because that's where the money's at. (more)
