The fifth-generation Pokémon game has been announced! At least, the titles for the next generation have been announced -- Pokémon Black and White are the next pair of Pokémon games, to be released this fall on DS in Japan. Nintendo's going for relatively simple colors after things like "HeartGold" and "Pearl." And ... that's pretty much all we know. Of course, given the way the series works, we can all kind of guess exactly how this will play. Or maybe not: a note on the Pokemon home page promises that... (more)

Easy Piano for Nintendo DS shipping now for little Tchaikovskys

posted by Pedro CubiasPedro Cubias 2639 days, 10 hours, 5 minutes ago

Mention piano lessons to kids and watch them cringe. Mention playing really awesome games on the Nintendo DS and watch them get all excited. Now, mention piano lessons on the Nintendo DS and watch them squirm in confusion, a definite improved reaction that's all thanks to Easy Piano, which is now shipping to retail. It's a $40 game (of sorts) plus 13 key mini-piano that, if you're lucky, your children might confuse for the Guitar Hero: On Tour controller. (more)

Red Steel 2 Second Opinions

April 6, 2010 - After two weeks on the shelves, Red Steel 2 seems like it's doing pretty well for itself. I gave it a 8.6 out of 10, which definitely puts it on our "Great Game" scale, and it seems that the universal reception seems to be positive as well, receiving an average 8.0 in our GameStats aggregate. Cam Shea over in Australia loved it with an 8.4 out of 10, as did Kristan Reed in the UK, with an 8.5 out of 10. My review is just one gamer's opinion. I went around the IGN offices to check in with ... (more)

In "Unlikely Duos” news, Nintendo has announced that it is partnering with search engine giant Google to develop games, the first of which will appear on the Wii in late April. According to Silicon Era, the game is called And Kensaku, and includes a number of mini-games that incorporate Google search results into them. According to the details from the Nikkei report, this new DSi model will have a 4-inch screen (adding an extra 3/4 of an inch to the current DSi's 3.25-inch screen), and will still cost the same 18900 yen that the current DSi runs. "When you sell over 100 million handheld gaming systems, everyone wants to be involved in your success; just ask Nintendo. As a company with many different obstacles in its path, NVIDIA could definitely use the boost in revenues that would come from partnering with a company like Nintendo on a handheld system, and it looks like the Tegra processor will make that happen. The NVIDIA Tegra processor is an SoC that runs a set of ARM cores, a GeForce-based graphics core and an HD video processor capable of 10... (more)

The Changing Face of the Console Wars

posted by Alfonso CubiasAlfonso Cubias 2810 days, 21 hours, 24 minutes ago
Saturday, October 17, 2009 9:37:29 PM GMT
An article at Gamasutra explores the decisions by Microsoft and Sony to launch significant hardware additions — their respective, upcoming motion-control schemes — in the middle of a console cycle, rather than waiting until the next generations of their systems are ready. It's indicative of a change to the established pattern of console wars; nowadays, it's more about adding features and gadgets to improve existing products than developing entirely new ones. (more)
