Details continue to surface regarding "Project Copernicus," the Kingdoms of Amalur MMO that once dominated development at Curt Schilling's now-defunct 38 Studios. We've seen an early trailer of the game and learned that it wasn't any fun to play, but Copernicus' more tangible bullet points, such as its pricing structure, have remained a mystery. (more)

Hotline Miami drives the art of violence

posted by Pedro CubiasPedro Cubias 1829 days, 3 hours, 10 minutes ago
Saturday, August 18, 2012 8:57:00 AM GMT
If there's one thing I can say about Hotline Miami, it's that it leaves an impression. The music is probably what hit me first: electronic tunes that range from foreboding drones to synth-heavy, 80s-inspired rhythms. Pixelated visuals throb with neon colors that would be right at home in an episode of Miami Vice. (more)

"One way to go about that level is to go in all-guns blazing, but of course, it’s not the smartest way," he told Eurogamer. "We learned from the trailer that we really needed to give these characters some context and some backstory. We’re working within the game -- within that level -- to build these characters up before you meet them. (more)

posted by Pedro CubiasPedro Cubias 1830 days, 5 hours, 40 minutes ago
Friday, August 17, 2012 6:27:02 AM GMT
It's a strange day for Stardock when we say this is the second-weirdest lawsuit involving the company that we've seen today, but it's true. UK developer Rebellion (makers of the 2010 Aliens vs. Predator game) has decided to sue developer Stardock (publisher of Sins of a Solar Empire) because of the name of the latest Sins of the Solar Empire expansion, Rebellion. The court documents say that Rebellion (the studio) has a trademark on that word, and accuse Rebellion (the game), of causing customers "to mis... (more)

There is Grand Theft Auto and then there is everything else. Sure, Assassin's Creed and inFAMOUS do traversal better and Saint's Row has more varied missions, but no one excels at world building in the way Rockstar does. From the breakthrough hit of the open world action genre in 2001 to the innovations and insane detail of GTAIV, Rockstar has not only defined the genre but sculpted it for a decade while others just toyed around with it.
