DayZ has found a tremendous amount of success as a mod for ArmA II, but you probably knew that already -- this is just one of those memorable games that us humans love to chat about. Of course, there are people who simply aren't going to play it, ever, despite the mod itself being free. (more)

Review: The Expendables 2 Videogame

As a general rule, licensed games tend to be poorly made, slapdash affairs looking to cash in on a brand rather than build upon it. Game development is a business first and foremost, after all, so why bother creating a superior product for an established brand when an inferior one will sell just as well? (more)

LucasArts or Sierra: You could like both, but, more often than not, people tended to prefer one over the other in the golden age of adventure games. Though King’s Quest VI was my introduction to the genre (and the Windows operating system it was bundled with), Maniac Mansion, The Secret of Monkey Island series, and Full Throttle were the games I obsessed over and showed to visiting friends at any opportunity. Microsoft files trademark for 'Galactic Reign'

posted by Pedro CubiasPedro Cubias 1930 days, 3 hours, 5 minutes ago

Microsoft filed a trademark last week for something called "Galactic Reign," specifically in the categories of "video game software," as well as "entertainment services, namely, providing online video games." This could indicate an unannounced game, but Microsoft isn't sharing any other comments on what Galactic Reign might be. Microsoft has a number of in-process deals with various developers, so this could be anything. (more)

QuakeCon Preview: Going to hell in Doom 3's Lost Mission

posted by Pedro CubiasPedro Cubias 1932 days, 1 hour, 43 minutes ago
Sunday, August 05, 2012 8:25:01 AM GMT
In 2004, Doom 3 was a disappointment. It neither captured the speed of the original game or the lofty cinematic ambitions it tried to chase after. Instead, it was a slow, methodical shooter that leaned on its horror elements far more than previous games in the series. The game was at its best when it left the tight corridors of the space station and took the player back to hell -- thankfully BFG Edition's exclusive Lost Mission expansion returns to this setting while offering a lot more. Linux Left 4 Dead 2 outperforms Direct X Windows version

posted by Pedro CubiasPedro Cubias 1932 days, 1 hour, 56 minutes ago
Sunday, August 05, 2012 8:12:21 AM GMT
Valve recently announced that it will be bringing a few of Steam's most popular games to Linux, the first of those being Left 4 Dead 2. But besides the novelty factor of running the now classic zombie simulator on penguin-emblazoned hardware, there may be another reason to try the new platform out: It'll be faster. Even now, during development, the Valve team has L4D2 running at 315 frames per second on the Linux text platform, as compared to the standard Windows speed of 270.6 FPS. (more)

Battlefield 3: Armored Kill is all about the vehicles and that's the way I like it. While I only went hands-on with a limited amount of the new content, I did find out what else we can expect. Really, all I wanted to know was just how the AC-130 Gunship will work. (more)

Review: Anna

I enjoy point-and-click horror games very much. They've been an obsession of mine for a few years, drawing upon my nostalgia for my first PC love, Myst, and my attraction to suspense and intrigue. I love miring through the inherent flaws inevitable in a low-budget indie game to find that diamond-in-the-rough experience. In return, I'm often rewarded with a long-lasting chill that prints an indelible mark on my psyche, leaving an impact that inspires me as a writer and challenges me as a person. (more)
