Following in the footsteps of EVE Online and DUST 514 developer CCP Games, Valve Software has brought on an academic economist. That certainly sounds like something Valve would do. Over on his new blog, Yanis Varoufakis tells the story of how he became the studio's economist-in-residence. (more)

Wink If You've Seen the Future

posted by Pedro CubiasPedro Cubias 1891 days, 3 hours, 14 minutes ago
Sunday, June 17, 2012 8:49:13 AM GMT
E3 is always on the verge of devolving into a chaotic, inescapable din of competing mega-screens and marketing megaphones yelling over each other. Everyone is selling their own piece of the future. That's why, whether intentional or not, this year's show felt weirdly and stubbornly on message, as if a tacit agreement between every manufacturer and publisher ensured that nobody would step out of the here-and-now. If a gnawing absence of surprise and excitement pervaded the show, it's because everything we... (more)

E3: Elder Scrolls Online is more MMO than Elder Scrolls

posted by Pedro CubiasPedro Cubias 1897 days, 4 hours, 54 minutes ago
Monday, June 11, 2012 7:10:09 AM GMT
When Zenimax Online promised that The Elder Scrolls Online would be true to the original series with the added benefit of Tamriel's lore-enriched universe, I have to admit that I was close to being fooled. The idea of a game that truly felt like an Elder Scrolls title set in a massively online world is a great idea. Seemed too good to be true, right? (more)

E3: Medal of Honor: Warfighter sure is a military FPS

posted by Pedro CubiasPedro Cubias 1897 days, 4 hours, 54 minutes ago
Monday, June 11, 2012 7:09:19 AM GMT
It hasn't even been five years since the advent of Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare, and already we have games with incredibly uninspired gameplay and generic names to go with it. This isn't to say that Warfighter isn't a competent shooter, because it is. If, somehow, you're not entirely burned out on modern-day first-person shooters, then you may want to read further about Warfighter. (more)

E3: Hawken is getting its own ridiculous controller too

I bet every original Steel Battalion fan just got goosebumps upon seeing these images of the MEK-FU controller, huh? I know I did when I saw it in person last week at the Hawken party during E3. Of course, there's a sense of dread that comes along with thinking of the original Steel Battalion controller, as that giant overpriced thing became instantly useless. (more)

E3: Retro City Rampage in my hands! My dreams came true!

The final game I checked out at E3 was the PS Vita port of Retro City Rampage, the title I was most looking forward to playing. With the copious amounts of hands-on previews and the frustration of its seemingly endless development, I have been beyond antsy. It was supposed to come out last month! (more)
