Wii U third-party sizzle reel composed of 360/PS3/PC footage

posted by Pedro CubiasPedro Cubias 2324 days, 10 hours, 43 minutes ago

When Nintendo showed off a reel of major third-party games currently in development for its newly announced console, the Wii U, the footage wasn't actually playing on Wii U hardware. Nintendo of America prez Reggie Fils-Aime casually admitted as much in a post-presser interview with GameTrailers, excusing it by saying, "We're talking a year away from when the system's gonna launch" -- a hard to argue point, considering developers probably need some time to, ya know, actually make games for it. Review: Frozen Synapse

Indie games come in all shapes and forms, but while many offer creative designs and experiences to those who are willing to look for them, just as many can be a bit derivative of old designs. That isn't the case with Frozen Synapse, a game that could be shoehorned into a "chess meets Rainbow Six" description although that doesn't do it justice. (more)

Review: Hunted: The Demon's Forge

The last time inXile graced the world with a console roleplaying was with The Bard's Tale back in 2004. Since then, the studio has been quietly working away on a number of mobile games, so it's certainly interesting to see the company return to full-scale RPGs after making games like Super Stacker, Super Stacker 2 and Super Stacker Party. Preview: Deus Ex: Human Revolution (Xbox 360)

This is the part where I’m supposed to speak, generally, about other Deus Ex games and say things like, “Deus Ex is the greatest game of all time and you’re stupid if you didn’t like it.” Then, I would smoothly transition to the subject of Deus Ex: Human Revolution and mention that Eidos Montreal is attempting to re-establish the series as an all-time great after the creation of the laughable Invisible War. SSX Deadly Descents (sorry, it's just SSX now, we forgot) has a brand new trailer out, and there's a peek at the new version of SSX standby Mac Fraser, who looks ... just as generic as all the previous versions. At least all that powder and those gnarly ramps look fun. (more)

E3 2011: The big schedule

posted by Pedro CubiasPedro Cubias 2327 days, 11 hours, 28 minutes ago
Sunday, June 05, 2011 7:14:46 AM GMT
The big week is almost upon us, folks: E3 2011. And if this week is any indication of days to come, we'll have a constant flow of news mainlined directly from Los Angeles to your think meat. With that in mind, there are a handful of focal points throughout the week that will assuredly strike you as high priority, and as such, we thought a roadmap guiding you to those particular moments -- whether you're in Shibuya, or Queens, or anywhere else for that matter -- would be of particular use. Video: Duke Nukem Forever early access demo unzipped

No one likes to be stuck behind a velvet rope. As such, we couldn't abide the fact that the Duke Nukem Forever is currently available only to a select few, so we wrangled up the demo for ourselves and captured a little footage. Check out the video after the break and see what more than ten years has done for the Duke. (more)

The Call of Duty Elite news train keeps on keeping on, with UK paper the Guardian reporting that a premium membership will include "exclusive access" to a Call of Duty-themed web TV series. "We have engaged some top Hollywood talent to create linear video content that will be exclusive to Elite members," Activision Publishing CEO Eric Hirshberg tells the Guardian. Necro-Review: Metro 2033

posted by Pedro CubiasPedro Cubias 2332 days, 10 hours, 36 minutes ago
Tuesday, May 31, 2011 8:06:50 AM GMT
Metro 2033 was released on March 16, 2010. As I write this, it is May 30, 2011. You might be asking yourself why there's a review for Metro 2033 over a year after its launch. Well, Destructoid never officially reviewed Metro 2033. I had multiple problems getting several copies to work on both Xbox 360 and PC, while Anthony Burch decided to write a not-review after making it to the third chapter and refusing to indulge it any further. StarCraft 2: Heart of the Swarm preview: Kerrigan, again

When Blizzard announced that StarCraft 2 would be split into three different games years ago, there was quite a bit of weeping and gnashing of teeth -- lots of complaining that the new corporate entity of Activision Blizzard was triple-dipping our wallets. But time heals all wounds and in this case, the great reviews of the full-featured first title didn't hurt either. (more)

Blizzard Dota still on the way, has undergone 'some massive overhauls'

posted by Pedro CubiasPedro Cubias 2332 days, 10 hours, 40 minutes ago

Blizzard Dota, the Defense of the Ancients-style official mod that was shown off at last year's BlizzCon, is still a work in progress, according to lead producer Chris Sigaty. The other three mods shown last year were released a little while ago to the community, but the Dota mod, which pits all kinds of Blizzard franchise characters up against each other in a real-time battle, needed a little extra work, apparently. Blizzard carves out new info on Diablo 3 runestones

posted by Pedro CubiasPedro Cubias 2333 days, 8 hours, 56 minutes ago
Monday, May 30, 2011 9:46:03 AM GMT
It's been a long time since we've heard much on the new rune system in Diablo 3. For those who have forgotten -- it's been a while since BlizzCon 2008, after all -- Diablo 3 players can modify every class skill with a runestone. In the early version of the system, runestones came in fairly self-explanatory flavors. A multistrike rune, for instance, would add extra hits to a given skill. (more)

NVIDIA's new wired 3D Vision glasses give up some freedom for a lower price

posted by Pedro CubiasPedro Cubias 2333 days, 9 hours, 8 minutes ago
Monday, May 30, 2011 9:34:51 AM GMT
NVIDIA has been pushing its 3D Vision platform for a couple of years and at this year's Computex it is looking to pull in more PC users with new wired LCD active shutter glasses. The original wireless specs rely on the same IR sync tech and battery power seen in glasses for many HDTVs, but these get power and data over a 10-foot USB cable. While that might not work for living room viewing, a single user application like PC gaming or watching a Blu-ray 3D on a laptop doesn't suffer for the cable restricti... (more)

Intense screenshots of Alice: Madness Returns

posted by Pedro CubiasPedro Cubias 2336 days, 10 hours, 23 minutes ago
Friday, May 27, 2011 8:19:27 AM GMT
One of the major selling points for Alice: Madness Returns is the game's twisted nature, and how the art style meshes nicely with the insanity. Take, for instance, these screenshots. When you enter "Hysteria!" mode, Alice goes all bloody eyed and the world turns black, white, and red, which is what these images depict. I think the original blood-vomiting teaser for Madness Returns has finally been one-upped. (more)

EVO 2 console puts Android in a box

In 2006, Envizions announced the EVO: Phase One console, which was designed as a media center device. It apparently didn't change the world. Five years later, the world has changed anyway, and Envizions has access to an operating system for its new console that developers are already comfortable with: Android. (more)

Become a space wolf with Warhammer 40K: Space Marine's pre-order bonuses

Though it's possible you've been offered the opportunity to dress like a space wolf at some other point today, we were quite excited to be extended such a chance by the newly announced pre-order bonuses for Warhammer 40K: Space Marine. Folks pre-ordering the forthcoming third-person space shooter at GameStop will get the hilariously named armor, as well as the "black templar chapter armor." A variety of other bonuses are available from several other retailers, detailed below the break. (more)

Review: DiRT 3

posted by Pedro CubiasPedro Cubias 2337 days, 11 hours, 56 minutes ago

I love racing games, but my favorite kind are the ones that take you off the road and into the elements. Rally racing has always been my preference. Actually (cue harps and clouds), my money-no-object dream is to actually rally race across Africa. I'd probably roll and kill myself, though. For now, videogames will have to do the trick. DiRT 3 certainly does the trick. (more)
