In the latest issue of the UK's PSM3 magazine, Batman: Arkham City director Sefton Hill outlined an upgrade to Batman's "Detective Mode" designed to help him extract information. Batman will now be able to scan a criminal database to find likely informants among henchmen, and then interrogate them to get what he needs -- like extra Riddler clues. (more)

F1 2010 patch forthcoming, corrupt save issue possibly solved

posted by Pedro CubiasPedro Cubias 2520 days, 22 hours, 58 minutes ago

Well, that was certainly quick: after a meeting this morning at Codemasters HQ, a patch for F1 2010 has been announced to be in the works. Right now, the development team is currently investigating, going through feedback and looking at reported issues, so we don't have a timetable for when this will be released. However, it's very nice to read that they're taking care of some of the issues affecting the game. (more)

Crytek boss explains company's 'non-game' businesses

published 2521 days, 18 minutes ago posted by Pedro CubiasPedro Cubias 2522 days, 21 hours, 54 minutes ago
Wednesday, September 29, 2010 4:44:49 AM GMT Monday, September 27, 2010 7:08:15 AM GMT
While Crytek is known for their games, the company actually makes a good deal of money on non-game businesses. Gamasutra quizzed Crytek studio head Cevat Yerli about the company's rapid expansion from "developer of Far Cry" to becoming a massive, international organization that currently employs six game studios -- in locations as varied as the UK, Budapest, Frankfurt Kiev, Sofia, and Korea. CryEngine 3 licensing brings in some dough, but how else does Crytek maintain its operations? (more)

A world of previously unseen, weirdly physics-based nightmares now await Mac owners. That's right, the one and only Garry's Mod supports Steam for Mac. As an added bonus, if you own the PC version, you won't have to pay a second time. And if you're totally new to the, uh, "game," it's temporarily down to $4.99 (more)

Minecraft server issues cause impromptu free-to-play weekend

posted by Pedro CubiasPedro Cubias 2529 days, 21 hours, 59 minutes ago
Monday, September 20, 2010 7:03:42 AM GMT
If the latest Penny Arcade strip filled you with an interest/mortal fear of Markus Persson's indie sandbox title Minecraft, you'll be pleased to learn that the game is free to check out today (and possibly even a bit longer). On the game's official site, Persson reported, "Minecraft got way too popular for this humble server," leading him to temporarily shut down a few of the game's online services. Luckily for us spendthrifts, Persson decided to institute "a 'free-to-play weekend', or however long this ... (more)

Torchlight 2 will offer free mod tools, full mod support in multiplayer

posted by Pedro CubiasPedro Cubias 2540 days, 22 hours, 3 minutes ago
Thursday, September 09, 2010 6:59:44 AM GMT
A lot of people have been making a big deal out of multiplayer in Torchlight 2 -- and rightfully so -- but not so much talk has been about modding. The first game had a substantial mod community, thanks in part to Runic Games offering mod tools for free to all players. And during my demo of the game at PAX, a Runic rep confirmed that the company will once again freely distribute mod tools to the public. (more)

Keep a dungeon once more with 'Dungeons'

Hey PC gamers! Remember Dungeon Keeper? Remember using your Hand of Evil to slap your imps and working really hard to summon Horny? Good times! It's too bad that we never got a Dungeon Keeper 3, and with EA having farmed out the name to a still-unreleased, China-only MMO, the chances of our getting it are looking slimmer by the day. (more)

Impressions: Shogun 2: Total War

posted by Pedro CubiasPedro Cubias 2546 days, 22 hours, 37 minutes ago
Friday, September 03, 2010 6:25:07 AM GMT
Recently Sega invited me over to its San Francisco offices to take a peek at the latest game in the Total War series: Shogun 2. As a return to the original Total War game Shogun: Total War, Shogun 2 is the latest in the real time/turn-based fusion strategy game. Sega and developer The Creative Assembly were kind enough to show me the real time battle elements of the game, with the turn-based overworld stuff saved for something I have planned next week. Fans of the franchise will certainly want to pay at... (more)

Your task isn't nearly as daunting as the one facing Bizarre's Bond in Blood Stone. The iconic spy is sent to Istanbul to intercept the sale of "mission-critical biotechnology," and is granted inevitably catastrophic permission to do so "by any means necessary." The only thing in Istanbul we don't feel sorry for is the drill on loan from Total Recall. (more)

The new Stardock strategy game for PC, Elemental: War of Magic, is going through a rough time: its launch this week has been met with game-breaking bugs and crashes, much to the dissatisfaction of fans. But wait, the situation gets worse. On the Quarter to Three forums, outspoken Stardock CEO Brad Wardell responded to criticism with the following post: "Also, to anyone, like you Ben, saying the game is like an 'early beta' then well, please stay away from our games in the future. EA won't bow to Medal of Honor controversy

posted by Pedro CubiasPedro Cubias 2555 days, 22 hours, 28 minutes ago
Wednesday, August 25, 2010 6:34:05 AM GMT
Allow gamers to take up the mantle of the Taliban in your game and you're bound to receive some ire. EA is learning all about that with Medal of Honor, as the mainstream media and the British government have vocalized concerns. British Defence Secretary Liam Fox has actually called for a countrywide ban of the game outright, stating that it's "shocking that someone would think it acceptable to recreate the acts of the Taliban against British soldiers," even though you don't actually kill any British troo... In a candid post on Introversion Software's DEFCON forums, company co-founder Mark Morris admits that the Darwinia+ developer was close to closing up shop following disappointing sales of the game's XBLA port. "Internally we knew within about an hour of Darwinia+'s launch that it hadn't done well enough," Morris wrote. "It took us about two weeks to really accept that and the awful realisation that we didn't have enough to continue with the office or the staff. We had a bunch of creditors knocking at the... (more)
