Review: Curio

Ladies and gentlemen, I got an iPhone this Christmas! I am no longer living in the 20th century! I've been checking out apps I've had my eye on as well as little surprises that have been suggested to me. So far, I've been enjoying the pick-up-and-play nature of mobile games, quickly restocking my stores in Tiny Tower while waiting at red lights, and whatnot. The next logical step was to review an iOS game. (more)

Review: Anno 2070

posted by Pedro CubiasPedro Cubias 2073 days, 19 hours, 53 minutes ago
Monday, November 21, 2011 8:53:35 AM GMT
The popular Anno series has survived for over a decade now, each title being numbered in such a way that makes you wonder if they form some kind of sequence test. There is only so much you can do with wooden ships and colonial-era economies, and instead of going for an Anno 1805 or Anno 1299 the franchise has finally made the jump to the future. (more)

Review: Resistance 3

posted by Pedro CubiasPedro Cubias 2133 days, 3 hours, 10 minutes ago

Resistance has always been a bit of a strange series for the PlayStation 3. As an exclusive, it's always enjoyed added exposure and attention from press, but divisive opinions on its quality and the dated nature of its gameplay have awarded it far less commendation compared to the likes of inFAMOUS and Uncharted. Review: SkyDrift

SkyDrift is one of those games that just feels like it belongs in an arcade with an extravagant, ground-shaking cabinet. Instead, developer Digital Reality took a more financially responsible route by tossing it up on Xbox Live Arcade and PlayStation Network. (more)

Harmonix's VidRhythm is a cool blend of musical exploration and remixing. It encourages you to be creative and silly. It makes you laugh at yourself. It's maybe more of an app than a game, but I'm sure you'll have fun with it, regardless of classification. (more)

Review: The Ico & Shadow of the Colossus Collection

posted by Pedro CubiasPedro Cubias 2146 days, 20 hours, 31 minutes ago
Friday, September 09, 2011 8:15:40 AM GMT
Two of the finest PlayStation 2 titles I know of were created by the same team. Both Shadow of the Colossus and Ico were crafted by the creative minds at Team Ico, a group that is slow to release games, but makes masterpieces each time. I hold both in such high regard that I've been known to force people to play them. One friend of mine in particular came to my city for a short visit not too long ago. I insisted that he play Shadow of the Colossus, and I monitored his progress throughout, clearly stating... (more)

Review: Warhammer 40,000: Space Marine

posted by Pedro CubiasPedro Cubias 2146 days, 20 hours, 31 minutes ago

Warhammer 40,000, the tabletop game in which sci-fi depictions of fantasy creatures battle it out in a grim, perpetually violent future, lends itself well to the world of videogames. In fact, one can be quite certain it's inspired a fair few. (more)

Poor Alice Liddell, mentally torturing herself after her family perished in a fire that consumed her childhood home. Enough to drive a girl mad, which is exactly what led to the events of 2000's cult-classic, American McGee's Alice. (more)

Review: Frozen Synapse

Indie games come in all shapes and forms, but while many offer creative designs and experiences to those who are willing to look for them, just as many can be a bit derivative of old designs. That isn't the case with Frozen Synapse, a game that could be shoehorned into a "chess meets Rainbow Six" description although that doesn't do it justice. (more)

Review: Hunted: The Demon's Forge

The last time inXile graced the world with a console roleplaying was with The Bard's Tale back in 2004. Since then, the studio has been quietly working away on a number of mobile games, so it's certainly interesting to see the company return to full-scale RPGs after making games like Super Stacker, Super Stacker 2 and Super Stacker Party. Necro-Review: Metro 2033

posted by Pedro CubiasPedro Cubias 2247 days, 20 hours, 40 minutes ago
Tuesday, May 31, 2011 8:06:50 AM GMT
Metro 2033 was released on March 16, 2010. As I write this, it is May 30, 2011. You might be asking yourself why there's a review for Metro 2033 over a year after its launch. Well, Destructoid never officially reviewed Metro 2033. I had multiple problems getting several copies to work on both Xbox 360 and PC, while Anthony Burch decided to write a not-review after making it to the third chapter and refusing to indulge it any further. Review: Dead or Alive Dimensions

posted by Pedro CubiasPedro Cubias 2252 days, 21 hours, 59 minutes ago
Thursday, May 26, 2011 6:46:54 AM GMT
The Dead or Alive series has never quite made it to the top tier of world-favorite fighting games. Despite having a large, dedicated fanbase, it's always hovered somewhere below Street Fighter, Mortal Kombat, and Tekken, though well above other great, lesser-appreciated series like Darkstalkers, Fatal Fury, and Guilty Gear, in terms of sheer popularity. App review: Seamless for iOS and Mac (video)

posted by Pedro CubiasPedro Cubias 2277 days, 22 hours, 23 minutes ago
Sunday, May 01, 2011 6:23:27 AM GMT
If you're the kind of person who's always listening to music and wouldn't be caught dead headphone-less, pause that song for a quick second and check out Seamless. This lightweight app links your iPhone's Music player to iTunes on your Mac in a pretty clever -- not to mention Cupertino-esque -- fashion. The whole crux of it is the "transition," which simultaneously fades out a song on one end while bringing it to full blast on the other. All it takes to get started is a quick $1.99 download for your i-de... (more)

Review: Section 8: Prejudice

posted by Pedro CubiasPedro Cubias 2287 days, 19 hours ago
Thursday, April 21, 2011 9:46:33 AM GMT
The original Section 8 didn't exactly set the world aflame. Its focus on pure online gameplay was to its detriment, due to the fact that not many people were actually playing it. By and large, it was a noble effort and a decent game, albeit one that seemed doomed to slip into obscurity. (more)

Review: Sanctum

posted by Pedro CubiasPedro Cubias 2293 days, 22 hours, 3 minutes ago
Friday, April 15, 2011 6:43:15 AM GMT
The tower defense genre recently got a nice boost in novelty with the release of Anomaly: Warzone Earth, which turned the genre on its head, and now we have Sanctum; a game that puts the player inside tower defense. Other than that both games involve towers though, they are really nothing alike. (more)

Okami is a beloved cult classic, but the game failed to meet sales expectations when it was first released on the PS2 back in 2006. Capcom recently stated that they believe that the game undersold because it was released so closely to the launch of the Xbox 360/PlayStation 3/Wii. (more)

Review: Bulletstorm

posted by adminadmin 2344 days, 22 hours, 12 minutes ago
Wednesday, February 23, 2011 6:34:31 AM GMT
Sure, you can run through its eight-hour campaign, relying on your default military assault rifle to blast through inexhaustible crowds of the game’s punk mutants and bloodthirsty soldiers. As your typical first-person shooting gallery, Bulletstorm holds its own, with a wealth of scripted “oh, shit!” moments and solid base mechanics that just feel right. So if you want to dash from firefight to firefight, mindlessly unloading clips at anything that moves, go for it. You’ll probably have a blast. (more)

Review: Killzone 3

posted by adminadmin 2344 days, 22 hours, 13 minutes ago
Wednesday, February 23, 2011 6:33:46 AM GMT
Halo and Call of Duty are often held up as the twin peaks of online first-person-shooters. Meanwhile Killzone is regularly overlooked or outright disregarded, and that's a remarkable shame, since Guerrilla's efforts with Killzone 2 led to perhaps one of the most vivid and powerful shooters on the market.
