New Vanquish screenshots

posted by Pedro CubiasPedro Cubias 2449 days, 1 hour, 53 minutes ago

I can't help but find it weird when games persist in using the Russians as the enemy. Particularly in a futuristic setting. I realize that they've regained some of their former strength, but it still surprises me whenever we cling to the Cold War for our enemies. I would think we have enough monsters in the world to work with that we wouldn't have to continue to rely on the old ones. (more)

TGS: Yakuza Black Panther PSP hands on

posted by Pedro CubiasPedro Cubias 2469 days, 3 hours, 8 minutes ago

They haven't even released this title yet, and already Sega's showing off their upcoming Yakuza zombie-fest, and while that wasn't available for a hands-on demo, I made sure to at least try my hand at their upcoming PSP release, Yakuza: Black Panther. (more)

Sega's Handling Of Its Next Yakuza Game Is Looking Good

posted by Pedro CubiasPedro Cubias 2485 days, 3 hours, 32 minutes ago
Friday, September 03, 2010 6:49:18 AM GMT
The last Japanese mobster game that Sega released for the PlayStation 3 came to North America noticeably scathed. Missions were missing, as were hostess clubs and any semblance of box art integrity. Fortunately, things are lookin' up for Yakuza 4. (more)

Impressions: Shogun 2: Total War

posted by Pedro CubiasPedro Cubias 2485 days, 3 hours, 56 minutes ago
Friday, September 03, 2010 6:25:07 AM GMT
Recently Sega invited me over to its San Francisco offices to take a peek at the latest game in the Total War series: Shogun 2. As a return to the original Total War game Shogun: Total War, Shogun 2 is the latest in the real time/turn-based fusion strategy game. Sega and developer The Creative Assembly were kind enough to show me the real time battle elements of the game, with the turn-based overworld stuff saved for something I have planned next week. Fans of the franchise will certainly want to pay at... (more)

Platinum says Vanquish will be identical on PS3, 360

posted by Pedro CubiasPedro Cubias 2491 days, 2 hours, 7 minutes ago
Saturday, August 28, 2010 8:14:09 AM GMT
Gamers were a bit bent out of shape last year when Platinum Games' Bayonetta wasn't, shall we say, quite the same on both PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360. The PlayStation 3 version of the game, which was "farmed out" to another developer for a port, took a few hits in both content and visuals. That shouldn't be a problem with Platinum's upcoming shooter, Vanquish, says the system programmer in charge of developing the PlayStation 3 version. (more)

Sega scraps plans for Aliens vs. Predator support on consoles

posted by Pedro CubiasPedro Cubias 2535 days, 1 hour, 34 minutes ago
Thursday, July 15, 2010 8:47:04 AM GMT
According to a post on the game's forum by a Sega community manager, plans for future patches for Aliens vs. Predator have been inexplicably canceled. In said post, the Sega representative (posting under the username Clumsyorchid) laments, "I apologize, as I know there are many features and updates that you'd like to see. I'll keep fighting internally for this to happen, but until I hear otherwise, there will not be a console patch for either Xbox or PS3." (more)

Some new screenshots from the upcoming portable version of the Yakuza series have cropped up. Holy crap, are they gorgeous. There are standoffs, brawls and sketchy art stills in there. And there's a hostess too, which made me smile. (more)

Sega skipping GamesCom 2010

Sega has decided it will not attend Europe's massively successful GamesCom in Cologne, Germany this year. The publisher told VG247 in a statement that the show "continues to be the most important European event in the calendar," but that it was a "commercial decision" not to attend in 2010. (more)

A look at gaming's many revolutions

posted by Pedro CubiasPedro Cubias 2544 days, 1 hour, 56 minutes ago
Tuesday, July 06, 2010 8:24:46 AM GMT
Patriotism may not be my favorite thing ever, but I do love a good revolution. That's a big part of why I love the videogame industry. In television, movies and music, truly revolutionary moments are few and far between. In videogames, they hit every couple of years, if not sooner. No artistic medium that I know of has evolved this far, this quickly. Knowing that videogames are in a perpetual growth spurt makes scouring for gaming news every morning a daily exercise in excitement. (more)

Aliens vs. Predator gets Bughunt Map Pack DLC July 7

posted by Pedro CubiasPedro Cubias 2549 days, 2 hours, 4 minutes ago
Thursday, July 01, 2010 8:17:12 AM GMT
The problem with the struggle between the Aliens and Predators is that both are pretty equally matched: Predators have a lot of technology and stand about 200 feet tall (give or take a couple hundred feet), while Aliens have greater numbers and acidic blood that could eat through a truckload of fruitcake in milliseconds. Humans have -- uh, actually, we just have soft, fertile bodies and aesthetically-pleasing skull shapes. Talk about your bum deals, right? (more)

Twitter Comes To Arcades, Courtesy Virtua Fighter

Sega is letting the Virtua Fighter faithful update their friends and foes on their fighting game accomplishments, 140 characters or less at a time, with something new for arcades—Twitter support in Virtua Fighter 5 Final Showdown. The official Japanese Virtua Fighter web site broke the news today, via Versus City, that players will be able to link their VF.net accounts with their Twitter accounts. That lets players do more than boast of their current standing and in-game accomplishments, letting you eas... (more)

The Xbox Live Arcade versions of both Crazy Taxi and Sonic Adventure were playable at Sega's booth, and both still look great, even ten-plus years after their release. However, each game has one issue that keeps the XBLA (and PSN) version from absolute perfection. (more)

Neptune, a game about game console girls gets gameplay

posted by Pedro CubiasPedro Cubias 2566 days, 3 hours, 30 minutes ago
Monday, June 14, 2010 6:51:29 AM GMT
It might be the time of the year that gamers think about the industry's various game consoles as mortal enemies, but it seems that Super Dimension Game Neptune, a JRPG about game consoles who can transform into cute anime girls, does not subscribe to that attitude. Instead, the holy gameworld goddesses Purple Heart, Green Heart, White Heart, and Black Heart cooperate to fight the dastardly Majikon (wordplay on the Japanese slang for flash carts) and save their gameworlds (Planetune, Leanbox, Ruii, and R... We Are Getting Yakuza 4 After All

posted by Pedro CubiasPedro Cubias 2571 days, 3 hours ago

Following in the footsteps of its predecessor, Yakuza 4 will be making its way to the western market next spring, exclusively for the PlayStation 3, and this time Kazuma's got a posse. Released in March in Japan as Ryū ga Gotoku 4, Yakuza 4 is now heading to the west, as we thought it might when Sega indicated big numbers for Yakuza 3 in North America and Europe. (more)

New Vanquish trailer shoots, explodes, flips and then explodes again

posted by Pedro CubiasPedro Cubias 2574 days, 1 hour, 55 minutes ago
Sunday, June 06, 2010 8:25:37 AM GMT
Based on what we know of the studio's previous offerings, we imagine that somewhere at Platinum Games HQ, there's a keyboard with just five buttons, labeled "Explosion," "Laser," "Ninja Flip," "Giant Robot" and "Overly Dramatic Dialogue." In the case of the most recent trailer for Vanquish, we're pretty sure some Platinum designer, made weary from a long day of toil, fell asleep on said keyboard, filling the trailer with dangerous amounts of these five crucial elements. Shogun 2: Total War confirmed, will have hero units and siege battles

posted by Pedro CubiasPedro Cubias 2577 days, 1 hour, 53 minutes ago

So much for secrecy -- the cat is out of the bag early, as Sega has revealed that, yes, Shogun 2: Total War is the next game in the historical war simulation series from The Creative Assembly. The game is a direct sequel to the first game in the Total War series (released 10 years ago, if you can believe that) and will have players fighting as competing warlords in 16th century Japan, working to reunite the country under one unified ruler. The game promises the "ultimate refinement of the original formu... (more)

Sonic Adventure, Crazy Taxi submitted to Korean ratings board by Microsoft

Microsoft Korea has submitted Sega's Crazy Taxi and Sonic Adventure to the Korean ratings board, leading to speculation that the Dreamcast titles are racing to XBLA. Sega was unable to officially comment on the ratings. Sonic Adventure popped up like a blue blur on radar back in January, while Siliconera points out that Crazy Taxi has been banging around as a rumored XBLA release for a little while. With E3 only a couple weeks away, it wouldn't be surprising to hear more about the titles then -- you kno... (more)
