The first batch of downloadable Sega Genesis games for the PC has hit Steam, giving gamers a new way to spend $2.99 apiece on games like Ecco the Dolphin, Vectorman, and Sonic 3D Blast. Why worry about the ambiguous moral and legal issues surrounding emulation when you can just buy Sega Genesis titles for your PC? The first batch of Sega Genesis Classics is now available on Steam, with $2.99 scoring players legitimate copies of a number of games previously available only through the dozens of game compi... Rumor: 'Alpha Protocol should have been scrapped'

posted by Pedro CubiasPedro Cubias 2668 days, 2 hours, 57 minutes ago
Tuesday, June 01, 2010 8:18:10 AM GMT
An alleged developer from Obsidian has anonymously ranted about the spectacular failure Alpha Protocol, explaining some tantalizing revelations behind the game's development and claiming that it should have been canceled instead of the Aliens RPG. "I worked on this game (a fact of which I am not proud). I’m not here to defend it; I agree with all these reviews," claims the supposed developer. "There was a ton of work put into this game. The problem is that is was a ton of undirected work, or work on th... (more)

Review: Alpha Protocol

posted by Pedro CubiasPedro Cubias 2671 days, 1 hour, 58 minutes ago

I have something of a reputation on staff for being the guy who takes in strays, the one who falls for the games that, while they may have a lot going for them, are in some way flawed. It's a fair representation and, considering it allows me to enjoy games that others may instantly write off, it's not something I'm necessarily ashamed of. (more)

Metareview: Alpha Protocol

posted by Pedro CubiasPedro Cubias 2671 days, 2 hours, 2 minutes ago

While we may have found Alpha Protocol to be a "technical nightmare," it doesn't mean we should all just close the book on it. No, other outlets surely have opinions on Obsidian Entertainment's "Espionage RPG" and we'd be remiss if we didn't bring them into the discussion. Let's get to it! (more)

Xbox Man Can Also Fix A Giant Robot

posted by Pedro CubiasPedro Cubias 2672 days, 2 hours, 11 minutes ago
Friday, May 28, 2010 9:03:54 AM GMT
Sanrokumaru (literally 3-6-0) is Microsoft's new mascot in the Japanese market. He's a talented guy! Not only can he throw a baseball, but he can maintain a giant fighting robot as well. This is a new commercial for Virtual-On Force, the upcoming Xbox Live Arcade port of Sega's 2001 arcade game (and successor to last year's Virtual-On Oratorio Tangram). (more)

Sega announces Sonic Colors, coming to Wii and DS in late 2010

posted by Pedro CubiasPedro Cubias 2673 days, 3 hours, 24 minutes ago
Thursday, May 27, 2010 7:51:01 AM GMT
Man, Sega's just full of surprises, isn't it? Earlier today, the company announced Sonic Colors (or Colours, if you live in a country that spells that word that ridiculous way). a new platformer featuring the blue hedgehog and his new troupe of polychromatic friends. Sonic will have to navigate a sci-fi themed amusement park to thwart the plans of -- who else -- Dr. Eggman by saving multicolored aliens, each of which bestow a certain special ability upon the series' attitude-filled protagonist. That soun... (more)

For every Alpha Protocol video, there's a Joystiq post

posted by Pedro CubiasPedro Cubias 2674 days, 4 hours, 18 minutes ago

This latest Alpha Protocol trailer embodies the importance of impromptu solutions to unexpected problems. It shows us that for every ambush, there's an escape; for every system, there's an override; and for every chicken nugget, there's an appropriate dipping sauce. Okay, we contributed that last nugget of wisdom, but that doesn't make it any less sage! (more)

Virtual On Force announced for Xbox 360

posted by Pedro CubiasPedro Cubias 2680 days, 3 hours, 8 minutes ago
Thursday, May 20, 2010 8:06:38 AM GMT
One of my best friends in high school was insanely into Virtual On. I could see the appeal; giant robots fighting each other to the death is awesome. Sadly, I could never get into it. I thought that maybe last year's downloadable Virtual On: Oratorio Tangram would be my chance to get into the games, but then I forgot about it. Third times the charm, possibly, as SEGA has announced a brand new Virtual On game for the Xbox 360. (more)

Having campaigned for months for a localised version of Yakuza 3, many fans of the series feared that releasing the game so close to other big PS3 titles - like Final Fantasy XIII - would hurt its sales. Nope! (more)

Alpha Protocol's Michael Thorton goes globetrotting in latest trailer

posted by Pedro CubiasPedro Cubias 2681 days, 4 hours, 59 minutes ago
Wednesday, May 19, 2010 6:15:54 AM GMT
When he's not busy being formally introduced or eloquently headslamming foes, Alpha Protocol's Michael Thorton is hopping on planes, trains, and automobiles around the globe. In the game's latest trailer (found after the break), Thorton travels to exotic locales the world over ... and kills people! He's a lot like that James Bond fella, but without the namby pamby English accent getting in the way (we kid, Brits!). AP is due to hit retailers in under two weeks -- just enough time for Thorton to tour the... (more)

Know How To Double Xbox 360 Sales In Japan?

posted by Pedro CubiasPedro Cubias 2690 days, 4 hours, 50 minutes ago
Monday, May 10, 2010 6:25:03 AM GMT
Japan isn't only The Land of the Rising Sun. It's also The Land of Xbox 360 Indifference. There must be a way to double weekly consoles sales. Turns out, there is. Well, at least once. In last week's hardware sales tally, the Xbox 360 sold 2,214 units in Japan. By comparison, there were 28,758 PSPs sold and 25,629 PS3s sold. Only the PSPgo at 1,544 units sold and the PS2 at 1,490 units lost to the Xbox 360. (more)

The latest trailer, as you might have guessed, features Thorton in a variety of combat scenarios, showing off some Splinter Cell: Conviction-esque pistol takedowns and American Ninja-esque karate moves. Vanquish gets a bunch of pretty awesome screenshots

posted by Pedro CubiasPedro Cubias 2701 days, 5 hours, 17 minutes ago

Vanquish may look like Platinum's answer to Gears of War, but if these screenshots indicate one thing, it's that the studio's third-person-shooter isn't going to be your average cover-based clone of Epic's smash hit. The images contained in this gallery seem to show that Vanquish is to shooters what Bayonetta was to action games -- and it's balls-out mental. (more)

'Project K' screenshots surface, look too good

posted by Pedro CubiasPedro Cubias 2706 days, 13 hours, 20 minutes ago
Friday, April 23, 2010 9:54:52 PM GMT
This isn't a screenshot from Yakuza 3 or 4. Nope, this is "Project K," an upcoming Yakuza spinoff for the PSP. Famitsu has the first screenshots of the game in action, and we have to admit, that they look a bit too good to be true. At first glance, it's easy to mistake this screen for a photograph of a Japanese city. Assuming these screens haven't been touched up in any way, we're glad to see the PSP is still being pushed technologically by developers. Even if you aren't particularly interested in the ... (more)

Microsoft confirms Bayonetta/Forza 3 bundle for Japan

posted by Pedro CubiasPedro Cubias 2707 days, 15 hours, 37 minutes ago

Microsoft is putting on its best marketing face to try and sell some Xbox 360s in Japan, hence a new Xbox 360 Elite bundle -- last week's rumored bundle. The new pack includes a copy of Forza 3 and Bayonetta on top of all the usual trimmings that come with an Xbox 360 Elite -- all for a cool ¥29,800 ($319.48). It's one of the more unique software bundles we've seen, to tell the truth, but a nice way to entice Japanese gamers. Each title comes from an opposite side of the spectrum: Forza 3 is a diehard ra... (more)

XBLA in Brief: Puzzle Chronicles, After Burner Climax

posted by Pedro CubiasPedro Cubias 2708 days, 14 hours, 51 minutes ago
Wednesday, April 21, 2010 8:24:07 PM GMT
We've got two wildly disparate games on Xbox Live Arcade this week. For the puzzle game / RPG hybrid fans, there's Puzzle Chronicles, essentially a different take on Puzzle Quest (which makes sense, as both were developed by Infinite Interactive). If you're more of an action bent, then After Burner Climax will be right up your alley. So, what's it going to be, saving the kingdom one rotating gem at a time or blasting bogeys from the sky? Watch the latest XBLA in Brief and see if either 800 ($10) title de... (more)

Sonic Adventure, Crazy Taxi outed for Xbox Live Arcade

posted by Pedro CubiasPedro Cubias 2710 days, 17 hours, 11 minutes ago

We've been hearing rumors about digital Dreamcast games since forever, but some brand new evidence appears to categorically suggest that both Crazy Taxi and Sonic Adventure are en route to Xbox Live Arcade. This is amidst further "confirmations" of Doom II, Metal Slux XX and Quake Arena. A member of the Digiex Forums posted a batch of screenshorts purported to be nabbed from a dev kit 360. Just for good measure, he revealed Sonic 4's Super Sonic as well. The screens themselves all look rather genuine, an... (more)
