Sony's E3 site goes online, has space for nine titles

posted by Pedro CubiasPedro Cubias 2369 days, 7 hours, 5 minutes ago

That said, we can be reasonably sure that at least nine games will be shown during the event, due to the spaces in the top right corner. Some of them have already been filled -- Ratchet & Clank (All 4 One), Resistance 3, Uncharted 3, Twisted Metal and inFAMOUS 2. That leaves four fresh announcements. (more)

Sony Music Japan and Sony Ericsson Get Hacked

posted by Pedro CubiasPedro Cubias 2369 days, 7 hours, 13 minutes ago
Thursday, May 26, 2011 6:39:42 AM GMT
On Friday, Sony BMG Greece was hacked and the details of more than 8,000 users stolen. This week, Sony Music Japan and Sony Ericsson were the targets. In the attack against Sony’s Greek website, hackers supposedly used an automated SQL injection tool to find a flaw and obtain user information. Though that event took play on May 5, it seems Sony Music Japan has fallen victim to a similar attack. (more)

Patent points at PlayStation Move-compatible PSP Go dock

posted by Pedro CubiasPedro Cubias 2371 days, 6 hours, 21 minutes ago
Tuesday, May 24, 2011 7:32:22 AM GMT
A patent filed by Sony back in November 2009 (and recently published) with the USPTO seems to indicate that the company was once exploring methods of integrating its colorfully-tipped Move controllers into its handheld video games. The patent in question is for a dock which, in an attached illustration, fits a folded-shut PSP Go. The dock includes a built-in camera which functions like a PlayStation Eye, detecting Move controllers in a narrow radius in front of the dock. (more)

Sony shows off, folds up super flexible organic TFT display

posted by Pedro CubiasPedro Cubias 2371 days, 6 hours, 37 minutes ago
Tuesday, May 24, 2011 7:16:15 AM GMT
E-reader manufacturers are doing their darnedest to get their devices to behave more like the old fashioned books we've all since abandoned, but we won't be happy until we can roll one up and stuff it in our back pockets, paperback-style. Sony's working hard to make that dream a reality -- the company showed off some new bendable display technology behind closed doors at last week's SID conference in LA, including a color unit and the extremely flexible black and white e-paper display seen above, which c... Credit Card Phishing Site Found on Sony Servers

posted by Pedro CubiasPedro Cubias 2373 days, 5 hours, 25 minutes ago
Sunday, May 22, 2011 8:27:43 AM GMT
Poor Sony hasn’t had an easy time as of late. Between PSN going down, discovering the information of 77 million users had been stolen, facing questions from Congress, and a new password exploit that could see customer’s accounts compromised, the company has certainly been busy fending off a storm of bad PR. Today the company was dealt another blow as it emerged that a credit card phishing scam is apparently running on one of the its servers. (more)

With the release of inFamous 2 just a few weeks away, it seems like Sony Computer Entertainment America is looking to snare a few more sales by sweetening the pre-order pot. They're adding three new weapons and a skin for Cole to an already complicated bonus offer scheme. Players will receive these items in addition to any other bonus DLC they receive from pre-ordering from a participating retailer or from the "Hero Edition" of the game. (more)

Sony CEO Defends the Handling of PSN Breach

posted by Pedro CubiasPedro Cubias 2375 days, 5 hours, 40 minutes ago

Sony has come under fire for its handling of the April 20 network breach that saw the personal data of more than 77 million users get stolen. The company has apologized profusely for the incident and thanked users for their patience in almost every blog post regarding the incident. However, customers are still, understandably, incredibly peeved about the breach. So, how will recent comments made by Sony President Howard Stringer go down? (more)

While there’s still no official word on when the Store will be coming back, an inside memo sent to publishing partners and devs suggests that the relaunch is scheduled for next Tuesday, May 24. The memo, obtained by Gamasutra, details Sony’s plans to do two "content pushes" per week for the next two weeks in order to catch up with the backlog. The first will coincide with the store’s May 24 reopening and will distribute content that was scheduled to publish April 26. May 27 will bring another round of ga... (more)

Have a PS3 Brink patch to go with your PSN restoration

posted by Pedro CubiasPedro Cubias 2378 days, 7 hours, 3 minutes ago
Tuesday, May 17, 2011 6:50:08 AM GMT
Splash Damage has celebrated the return of the PlayStation Network by releasing a lovely patch for your copy of Brink. I'm sure all thirty PS3 Brink players will be thrilled with the news. The fix is, essentially, the same as the one the Xbox 360 received. Chiefly, it forces teams to only have four human players per side, unless they choose the new "Big Teams" option. Splash Damage said it will "closely monitor" the performance of the game on the PlayStation Network. (more)

SOE announces free month, rewards for players affected by downtime

posted by Pedro CubiasPedro Cubias 2381 days, 5 hours, 2 minutes ago

Despite initial assurances, Sony Online Entertainment eventually confirmed that yes, it did misplace some of your user data recently, and the company feels really, really sorry about that. It can't actually get the data back, of course (that's not how it works), but SOE says it will do its best to make it up to customers with free stuff, as announced on its blog today. (more)

Sony Details SOE Compensation Package

Saturday, May 14, 2011 8:46:35 AM GMT
Though Sony’s been quite consistent with its PSN-related updates to the PlayStation Blog, we haven’t seen nearly as many updates for SOE users. The company recently detailed compensation packages for users and revealed that it would offer 12 months of AllClear ID PLUS at no cost to PlayStation Network and Qriocity account holders. At the time, there was said to be something similar in the works for SOE users. This week, SOE detailed what it’s doing to ensure users are protected and compensated for the ou... (more)

Whoops. If you'll recall, Sony held what can only be described as an emergency press event in Japan a week ago in order to issue a number of assurances about the resumption of service as it relates to the PlayStation Network and Qriocity. Seven days later, things are still as dead as they were pre-Cinco de Mayo. This evening, the company's Senior Director of Corporate Communications Patrick Seybold punched out a quick update to let the world know that they could actually leave the house and find somethin...
