Pictures of the upcoming Sony Ericsson Zeus smartphone leave little doubt that Sony has a good shot at attracting an influential group of young customers that should have gone to Microsoft. It may be time for Microsoft to go back to the drawing board already and rethink what Windows Phone 7 really is. (more)

Kitbasher KipKay stripped an old webcam for its optics and circuitry. With some hot glue, PVC piping, and a rubber cap, he secured the webcam to an off-the-shelf sniper scope. The result? a high magnification spy gadget that lets you capture video footage at a distance. (more)

Steve Jobs, What Happened To You?

posted by Pedro CubiasPedro Cubias 2443 days, 11 hours, 44 minutes ago
Wednesday, October 20, 2010 7:31:45 AM GMT
Imagine that. Apple now rakes in more than $20 billion in revenue per quarter and projects about $23 billion next quarter. There's a good chance that Apple will blow past that one again. That would make the company about twice the size of Intel and potentially 30-50% larger than Microsoft. Is that still the same company Michael Dell once suggested should shut down and its shareholders a few cents back? (more)

Getting caught hacking the Washington D.C. Board of Elections and Ethics online voting system is usually not a good thing. However, considering the board actually asked people to try and find fault with the system they planned on using next month, we can't imagine the students from the University of Michigan will get into any trouble. American student finds GPS tracker stuck to car, FBI shows up to reclaim its 'federal property'

Mechanics spot strange things stuck under cars all the time, but when 20-year-old Yasir Afifi's ride was put up on lifts his shop found something that hadn't been kicked up from the road: a cylindrical tube connected to a device with an antenna. An extremely paranoid person would think they'd found a bomb, but the truth isn't much better. It was an FBI tracking device. (more)

Google's Schmidt boasts 200K Android devices sold daily, waxes intellectual on society and technology

posted by Pedro CubiasPedro Cubias 2518 days, 9 hours, 33 minutes ago

Google CEO Eric Schmidt is quite the quotable man -- we hear he's pretty chatty at coffee shops, too -- and at the Techonomy conference, he hasn't failed to disappoint. First, some cold hard data: according to Schmidt, about 200,000 new Android devices are being sold each day, which he claims is up from 100,000 daily sales about two months ago (and up from the 60,000 daily activations from April). Windows 7 hits 150 million licenses: that's seven copies a second

posted by Pedro CubiasPedro Cubias 2561 days, 12 hours, 3 minutes ago

If Steve Ballmer's still pumped eight months later, there's a good reason -- Windows 7 has reportedly sold its 150 millionth copy, just two months after crossing the 100 million mark. If you run the numbers -- and we have -- that translates to roughly seven licenses sold per second since launch, a very convenient number for Microsoft to tout in their marketing communications from here on out. Perhaps execs can celebrate with a nice Windows 7 Whopper, topped with a fresh .dll pickle. (more)

Nexus One getting Android 2.2 FRF83 update over the air?

posted by Pedro CubiasPedro Cubias 2561 days, 12 hours, 12 minutes ago
Thursday, June 24, 2010 7:04:04 AM GMT
The Android 2.2 source code just went public this morning, but we're hearing a fully-compiled, legitimate OTA version of Froyo may be hitting small batches of Nexus One handsets as well. Though a 1.78MB ZIP file floating around XDA-developers this afternoon was originally thought to be the droid we've all been looking for, Android and Me reports that they received an honest-to-goodness OTA version of FRF83 after trying (and failing) to get that ZIP to work, and we're getting several similar reports. Let ... (more)

You might have seen an unofficial sneak peek of this phone earlier in the week. Dubbed the Droid X, the preview revealed a huge 4.4-inch, FWVGA (854x480) display; an 8-megapixel camera with flash (capable of shooting video in 720p); Android 2.1; a multitouch keyboard; a 1GHz ARMv7 processor; 8GB of storage; and special battery management software. Yesterday, Verizon confirmed the phone's existence by launching its dedicated Droid X product page. (more)

The Droid X gets real on Verizon (update: 720p video capture, not display)

posted by Pedro CubiasPedro Cubias 2567 days, 12 hours, 3 minutes ago

Looks like Verizon and Motorola are coming clean with the Droid X a little earlier than planned -- it just appeared on the official Droid page, complete with confirmation of that 4.3-inch screen size. Interestingly, rolling over the image reveals a box that says it has a "720p screen," which would be crazy -- especially since the Droid X prototype we played with had what looked to be the same 854 x 480 resolution as the original Droid, although we couldn't confirm it at the time. A true 720p screen res w... (more)
