Review: Persona 4 Arena

posted by Pedro CubiasPedro Cubias 1869 days, 3 hours, 57 minutes ago
Wednesday, August 08, 2012 7:14:07 AM GMT
Never in a million years would I have dreamed that I'd be playing a fighter based on a dungeon crawling role-playing game. Yet here I am, button mashing to call forth my Persona every few seconds, then plowing through countless dialogue boxes to follow the healthy storyline after another narrow victory. It's the weirdest thing and I'm still a bit confused, but I'm loving it anyway. (more)

Star Wars: The Old Republic is going free-to-play

posted by Pedro CubiasPedro Cubias 1876 days, 2 hours, 52 minutes ago
Wednesday, August 01, 2012 8:19:04 AM GMT
How this works: Players will have access to all eight character class storylines up to level 50, with some restrictions. Going beyond this level to access new game content and features can happen through subscriptions and individual purchases. So, this is like a hybrid F2P model, and microtransations can get you past that level 50 barrier if needed. (more)

In today's episode of "Publisher's hurting consumers in order to help themselves," Ubisoft may have put gamers at serious risk with its Uplay DRM service. Review: New Super Mario Bros. 2

posted by Pedro CubiasPedro Cubias 1877 days, 1 hour, 49 minutes ago
Tuesday, July 31, 2012 9:22:21 AM GMT
New Super Mario Bros. released for the Nintendo DS in 2006. The "new" in the title was a somewhat ironic reference to the fact that Mario had returned to his 2D platforming roots, a return that many gamers welcomed with open arms. It helped that the game was brilliant fun, of course. (more)

Could Sony be readying a new slim PS3 for gamescom?

posted by Pedro CubiasPedro Cubias 1902 days, 2 hours, 13 minutes ago
Friday, July 06, 2012 8:58:29 AM GMT
FCC documents filed by Sony point to a new slim model PS3. The folks at pocketnews note that the new documents do match the currently available PS3 (the label position has changed), which means we could have another slim model coming up. The new model number, CECH-4001x also seems to have moved up from the currently available 3000 series. (more)

E3: Elder Scrolls Online is more MMO than Elder Scrolls

posted by Pedro CubiasPedro Cubias 1927 days, 4 hours, 1 minute ago
Monday, June 11, 2012 7:10:09 AM GMT
When Zenimax Online promised that The Elder Scrolls Online would be true to the original series with the added benefit of Tamriel's lore-enriched universe, I have to admit that I was close to being fooled. The idea of a game that truly felt like an Elder Scrolls title set in a massively online world is a great idea. Seemed too good to be true, right? (more)

E3: Hawken is getting its own ridiculous controller too

posted by Pedro CubiasPedro Cubias 1927 days, 4 hours, 35 minutes ago
Monday, June 11, 2012 6:36:32 AM GMT
I bet every original Steel Battalion fan just got goosebumps upon seeing these images of the MEK-FU controller, huh? I know I did when I saw it in person last week at the Hawken party during E3. Of course, there's a sense of dread that comes along with thinking of the original Steel Battalion controller, as that giant overpriced thing became instantly useless. (more)

This is me on just about every first-person shooter at E3 2012. It takes effort to discern what separates the new Crysis, Medal of Honor, and Call of Duty from their previous installments. This is not the case with Far Cry 3, which is a bold departure from the series that stands out at E3. (more)

Rumor: Wii U price point set, will have apps

posted by Pedro CubiasPedro Cubias 1933 days, 3 hours, 35 minutes ago
Tuesday, June 05, 2012 7:36:33 AM GMT
E3 has barely started and already a ton of juicy rumors are flying around like, well, flying hotcakes. Andriasang is reporting that Nikkei has uncovered a 30,000 yen price point for the Wii U. If the rumor is true, this would put the Wii-U at around a $400 US launch price (approximately $383, to be exact). Of course, this is not confirmed, and the US could easily net a different pricing scheme, but considering the unit will most likely ship with a system, tablet, and wiimote, I can easily see the $400 re... Review: Minecraft: Xbox 360 Edition

Minecraft's success simply cannot be denied, whether you're one of its many loyal fans or highly vocal detractors. The blocky world and lack of objectives may be deceptively simple, but its honest freedom, as well as hidden depths both literal and figurative, has earned a cult following that is easily understood. Call of Duty: Black Ops II is a true sequel in every way

posted by Pedro CubiasPedro Cubias 1967 days, 4 hours, 41 minutes ago

The worst kept secret in gaming lately is that Treyarch has been working on Call of Duty: Black Ops II. You knew it, I knew it, everyone knew it. That said, they've done a pretty good job of keeping the details of the game under wraps. And now that we've seen it, I'm betting that it's probably quite a bit different from what anyone was expecting. (more)

Preview: Dragon's Dogma is gooooood

posted by Pedro CubiasPedro Cubias 1976 days, 3 hours, 47 minutes ago
Monday, April 23, 2012 7:24:02 AM GMT
They had me at open-world where you'll travel to kingdoms as the fated one to slay the dragon and save the world. I love that sh*t, even if I've just played a few games that sounded much like that recently. But it makes sense that another Western-style RPG is being attempted, especially after the wild success of games like The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim, Kingdoms of Amalur, and The Witcher 2. There's still a bit of room left for more in this genre space, especially when new, standout ideas are involved. (more)
